I'm leaning toward purchasing an M8540 machine and would like to get some feed back on the pro's and con's of this tractor.<br>

Smithfield selling to the Chinese really upsets me. But I was told they had some kind of agreement if not owned by a company in what was Eastern Europe and was basically run by the mob or mafia from there. Was told the group was so dangerous they were known to be controlling the hog market in the US a few years back and the Feds were scared to go after them. How true no idea but had a friend who got out of the hog business because of all this he said. The refused to pay the market price and drove out many of the independent hog farmers to control the market. Again, no idea how true all of this is.

Looks like someone added a different cutting edge. My factory is thinner attached to bucket.

Best bet would be modify the tooth bar to fit.

That's the beauty of where I live, here in the Finger Lakes. The Honey Crisp are sold by the pound, here. Fresh from trees I think $.99 per. Bushel of rest of many Varieties are $17.00 this year. I personally like Fortune it's a later apple in the meantime I'll eat Many different varieties. I buy a bushel or 2 a week for the guys here. Get 1/2 bushel bags 2 at a time of different varieties.

Harvey, that is my Dad's place. For me I do like you do, no fertilizer, no insecticide, no watering, just cut what grows, and mow at highest setting only when I have to. Have a bountiful crop of weeds ...:-) But usually it looks really good about the first week of June as it must enjoy the nitrogen from the snow falls and the weeds have not kicked in quite yet. It is downhill from there... but comes back somewhat in the fall on its own.

As noted above I sold it right after it was fixed. It was the last John Deere product I will ever buy. <br>

In theory it should be stronger with additional bearings in place but I just could not get my mind around Deere "saving" money by installing cheaper/weaker/lesser quality parts.<br>

I didn't want to wait around for the next engineering "surprise", so I put it in the best shape possible and cut my losses. <br>

U would match the shaft and mount holes up, you may be able to find a pump that has higher capacity for the same or lower price.
Also check the splines (tapered key etc.) and ask when you order, as the one you have may be from an after market mount kit.

I have a 50x60 pole barns building and we put metal over shingles on roof. It last for a long time and no leak issues due to foam insulation.

Since this one has been posted I've found one not working and one partially working although I don't think I'd trust it on a good slope on the 40 chassis.

I went out and looked at mine. It's got the main plate,two washers, pivot arm, two washers, outer plate, reverse teardrop plate. I personally would keep the washers, just for the reason of smoother movement and keep any wear on the washers not the plate or arm. I was curious as to why yours needs replaced. Mines in good shape. Larry.

I am replacing the pivot pin on my Golden Jubilee tractor. The plate with three dimples was on the back side of the front support. It was secured with the pivot pin bolt and a larger bolt through bottom hole. This sandwiched the front support between the pivot pin flange and dimpled plate. Next was a spacer ring then the center axle. I believe the plate should be on front side of front support as indicated by welds. The I&T shop manual says to discard washers in front and back of the center axle. My plan was to weld the plate on front support and install the center axle on the pivot pin with no washers or spacers. Would this be correct? What are the holes on the spacer ring for? YP, I found a 2008 with the V8 gas and auto. The salesman was stubborn and told me over and over it would tow I think it was 16,000 pounds. It had about that same rear axle ratio (I had that verified) and he wanted to tell me it was a 4.10. One reason I walked from there.

So far (about 1/2 tank) for my local driving with NO load 95% with A/C on it hit 12.7 mpg yesterday for average on that 1/2 tank. My wife said work with it till at least 15 mpg.

Here Farm Tags are I think about unlimited if not unlimited on weight. Friend who did farm our place drives a tracker trailer with regular license with Farm License plate. There is a distance from home you are limited to. Not sure what it is but feel right sure under 300 miles, maybe even less than 200 miles. kt

I bought a speedco quick hitch and have the same problems. My older woods mowers have bracing that won't let me get on the pins. The brush hog has a second set of holes but the finish mower it's not possible. I had to make 4" plates out 1/2" steel to brng the pins out. The first set I used 1/4 and they bent. I bought fully adgustable pins from rural king. This works but I had to extend the pto shaft and buy a toplink adapter. Larry
