My son bought a 505M that we are attempting to bushog with. It had no manual with it and I don't understand the controls. I figured out how to engage the PTO but I can't figure out how to lift the 3 point. The quadrant control right of the seat has no effect but you can turn a pivot that has rods hooked to it under the dash and the 3pt will raise but lower as soon as you release it. I'm thinking there must be a mode lever I'm missing or something. It has a draft control left of the seat that is connected to a bunch of linkedges and rods that are in shambles. I can't find a breakdown or picture of the controls on the internet for this model. He purchased a service manual but the diagrams don't match his tractor so I'm thinking he got the wrong manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did not notice this in the thread but what would be the difference of planting over leach lines and fields with manure spread over them? Not talking about possible damage to the lines from tractor on them, the chemical or health issues. kt

I believe you have the newer model that has a knob located on the top/front of the cylinder housing. Mine does not have that it has a square projection approx 5/8 inch square 1 1/2 inch high.

I have a 3pt Loftness snowblower that I acquired for my JD 4310 at the end of the snow season. Its a bit heavy at 925 lbs and I noticed that the cat 1 lift arm pins are bent on the attachment. Any recommendations for what cat 1 lift arm pins to purchase that will not bend under the weight?

I wouldn't think 2" would make much of a difference. But I imagine it could be a annoyance with snow falling in from the sides or when trying to make sharp turns if you are in deep snow.

I had a sensor problem once, although the problem was related to the fuel pump. There are 3 sensors. 2 are identical and are the least expensive at about $20. The 3rd sensor is more expensive at about $30-$50, I don't remember the exact price. I ended up purchasing the least expensive sensor and swapping with each of the two existing sensors. I was lucky the 2nd inexpensive sensor I swapped with was the root cause of the problem.

The loader would counterbalance the extra weight of the 5 footer, but 19 PTO horsepower is insufficient. Actually, I doubt if you actually [I]have[/I] 19 hp at the PTO. The standard rule of thumb for geared tractors; PTOhp = engine hp minus 14%. That means you could have as little as 17 PTO hp. Even with a 4 footer, count on struggling through tall/wet stuff.

Not to say you can't find a 4 footer with slip clutch protection, as they're more common on 6-10 footers and a few higher end 5 footers. Either not available or optional on most 4 footers. Not even Bush Hog offers a 4 footer with slip. Those with, are not going to be cheap. Check out

put the coil on today and it runs perfect 500.00 for a 2004 gator with 3500 hours 500.00 for all new tires 10. one new valve, 25.00 fuel pump, 200.00 carb, 120.00 coil with built in ignitor , primary clutch free, secondary clutch 230.00 total 1600.00 for a very clean mechanicly sound gator im very happy today thank you for the help

The PTO seal is leaking on my MF 471 (4x4 Cab model). I have a replacement seal on the way, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with changing the seal. Does the plate over the shaft have to be removed to replace the seal? If so does the PTO shaft have to be removed to replace the seal? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm one to not modify things to much unless it is done right. The numbers do not match as the M-59 is quite a bit different from the 45 although they are both for the same purpose. I do not know of anyone that has adapted what you are interested in doing but proper lines are important to the health of the hydraulic system.

I would start with fuel, put some fuel in a spray bottle and spray a dab in the carburettor while cranking, when she starts to keep it running spray a dab in in intervals and if it stays running lack of fuel is your problem. If that doesn't work for you try jumping it, when you put your jumper cables on, go straight from Battery post to Battery post with both + and - with the target vehicle running that should let you know if it's a battery issue. If that doesn't work try turn up kit. If that doesn't work check compression. If that doesn't work try saying a prayer. If you want to save some time try the prayer first ! I'm just saying, Godspeed...

I ended up taking my tractor to a dealer. I have not got it back yet. I will let you know what they found after I get my tractor back. Bryan

Joel thanks for all your help. Got stumped Saturday, we failed to get it to start. It has an electric fuel pump and it would not run. His nephew a small engine mechanic said it started right up last week for him. Will let you know what we find, when/if we do.

if its zoned ag no permits should be required tell the tax assessor to stay off property he can view google earth. use manufactured trusses as you need something to screw drywall ceiling into 2 ft on center fill space between perlins with 1 1/2 in foam board house wrap and tape every thig with gorilla tape this will keep bugs from getting through tin and give increadable insulation value.i ran flex ducts through attic as there is no crawl space run water lines inside of house they cannot go inside of walls because they will freeze at every post only thing under house is 1 very large drain. backfill all the way around building with gravel not dirt or you will have a colonie of mice . love my barn house built it 10 years ago alone with no help cost 15000.00 plus well and septic witch I hired out .another big plus is low taxes

My BIL just purchased a brand new BX25D. Definitely for home owners only.

The lift capacity on the bucket is only 540 lbs. I had recommended larger for even him on just 2 acres. There does not seem to be any quick disconnect for the bucket. Also the reversing seat used for both the tractor and the backhoe seems like it would be a real hassle if doing any real backhoe work.

After looking around with BIL I am really more impressed than ever with my old(2003) model 4310. Seems like there is less metal in newer tractors and I don't like all the levers (as opposed to switches on 4310). I now appreciate the thought that went into the 4310.
