Same thing happened to my TC29D. I tried the time tested WD 40 (fixes anything!) but it seemed not to work. Lo and behold about a month later the WD40 worked into the piston & freed it.

I still had the dealer fix it under warranty. It was not difficult to replace, but you had to pull the steering column to get at it. That was a little more complicated than I wanted to get in to, so I called the dealer to come & get it. It worked out that at the same time he did all of the 100 hour stuff.

Works fine & I now shoot a little WD 40 into the piston from time to time to keep it lubricated.

I use a Freedom Hitch, it is expensive but also a back, finger, and time saver. Have it on many implements and tractors. I rely on it because it is quick and works well with pto equipment. just my 2 cents. mike

I have a JD4100 that had injector problems. One of the first questions my dealer asked me is "are you sure you have been running it wide open?" Wide open is in the neighborhood of 2750 rpm on the the JD4100. Wide open is the setting to use for mowing grass and almost wide open is the setting to use with 540 rpm 3 pt. hitch attachments. The dealer said that anything much less than full throttle does not generate enough heat in the smaller diesel engines to keep the injectors clean. I don't know if any of this is true but it is what my dealer told me.

The best way to set this size truss is with a crane. I have set many trusses over the years the way Halsey recomends by hand, but they were not 42 feet wide. Trusses are not very strong when laying flat and break very easly. Be sure to use alot of bacing. Chris

Dan, I have a JD 4700, same as the 46 but more hp. With 26 acres you will be glad you got this size compact over a smaller one. I have 37 acres at one resd. and a couple acres at two other resd's. I mostly use the tractor on the larger acreage. I had a JD 755 20hp before so now I understand the need for MORE HP. To answer your questions, DSCV means Dual Selective Control Valves and as the other respondence stated you will need them for a loader and others called (POWER BEYOND) if you have a backhoe or other equipment that needs hydrolic control. I have the #48 backhoe and many other attachments some of which need the POWER BEYOND. There is a lot to buying a new tractor. You will need info. about tractors & attachments as much as you will need info. about price. WHen I was looking the Kioti dealer told me they were actually built off old Kubota blueprints. Don't know if it is true or not but they sure look a whole bunch alike. That doesn't speak much to quality, however, just interesting information if it is true.

I think you will find that a great deal of small roots will be still quite difficult to pull out, certainly a rake will not budge them, and a box-blade with scarifiers will merely 'comb' them into laying in the same direction, but not pull them out. Best bet would be to roto-till the heck out of the place, with pto running at 1000 rpm, after a few passes at 540rpm if possible. This will cut as many of them off a few inches below the surface as possible. Then grade with the box-blade, and rake out the debris. Best of luck.

As I was taught when I was young (all in my family are pilots), it's NOT the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop at the bottom that gets you!!!!! This is especially true with land-based equipment, falling from 8'ish feet up in a loader bucket doesn't sound too bad, having the loader land on top of you sounds real bad... Try to operate equipment with 'Murphy's Law' in mind (anything that can go wrong, will, usually at the worst possible moment. Best of luck, and BE CAREFUL!!

Mike S. Sorry, I can't use two at the same time. Sounds like yours was a real lemon and no fun at all. But if you have new brakes, new transmission, etc. as listed, you should get a good price or trade-in, as these tractors are in high demand and have great resale value. Once bitten, twice shy, and nobody would blame you for trying another color. But given the huge success of the JD 4000 series, I'm guessing that most owners have an experience more like mine than like yours.

These little engines are used in everything from sailboats to icecream trucks to run the refrigerator. Try looking in these other areas - chances are you could find a lower price.

Hey guys,
i too have the 4400 that has the new axel. it has been a joy to work with and own.......now. prior i was not too happy about the whole axle thing, but the tractor performed great. By the way, this is the second 4400 that i owned, the first one the dealer bought back at my cost and got me 4600 that i turned down because of the size of it. I ended up taking another 4400 that was a newer model and it has been great. the first 4400 had too many probs and i just didn't trust it. it had all the problems Mike has described, and then some. anyway, i had 3 deeres prior and they were good machines so i gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried another one. I'm glad i did. hope everyone else gets the best out of their dealer, i think that is the weak link in the chain. good luck.

Not sure what sort of information you are looking for, but I too am a woman and enjoy my little tractor alot. Have been using it for grading, clearing, augering, some back hoeing, digging and etc.. It is one handy tool and kind of a neat passtime to be out by yourself. I assume this is what you are talking about and congratultation for still being active and having fun :)

Bob, JimBinMI and I disagree on which is the best tractor brand (they're both darned good ones, of course), but you've got the right idea. A good dealer is probably more important than the brand.

Andy, I see you have no replies about your mower. I don't have a mower, but I just bought a 56" tiller. From what I see looking at other tillers I'd say the Caroni is very well built. Never tried it yet, but will this fall. If the quality of the mower is anything like the tiller I would not worry about it's durability.

I am located in south-central Michigan and purchased the same mower, with my NH TC18 tractor last summer for $1,300 without a rear guard. I recently purchased the rear chain guard from the same dealer for $79. I don't know what a good used price would be for you though, sorry. Just wanted to let you know that they can be bought at other prices, but maybe not in your area. Have you checked with the place you're buying the larger mower from, will they give you a decent trade in...you never know.

New, this tractor sells for $12,000 - $13,000. Don't know the used value, but if undamaged, the depreciation would be very little (at least this is what I found when I bought mine in January).
