Got her back from the doc today. She's running like a brand new tractor again. The parts summary from Northern Tool follows;

The tractor doctor charged $370.00 to fix her, which I didn't think was bad at all. Northern said 4 days to get the parts to me and with it being the 4th of July week I didn't think that was going to happen, but it did!

So after 11 years of use, I've had to change the injector pump a couple of years ago (less than $300.00)which was my fault and now this $635.00. Other than that just normal maintenance expense.

I'm still happy with this little tractor!

If your cutter has shear pin that is broken the blades could appear to spin just fine in a no-load condition but when actually cutting grass the extra load could cause them to slow down and be ineffective. Shear pins are designed to break under a shock load but the friction of the connection could allow them to spin when no load is present.

I am writing this message for my Dad. His series 2500 Massey Lawn Tractor has the RMO that won't seem to stay on when the mower is in gear. If he holds it, it works but not too helpful that way. If anyone knows a reason why this might be happening I would so appreciate some advice.<br>

We have a '05 TH gas.<br>
I have replaced the starter motor and battery and it runs great.<br>

It just stoped and first thought is "out of gas" as I have no gauge but it stopped abruptly with no sputter.<br>

It takes 3 gallons (not good, should take 5) and still won"t start.<br>
<br>
Looking at the clear fuel filter it is no where near as fuel as before and if I choke it I never smell fuel.<br>

I am waiting for my manuals but where is the fuel pump and is it an easy fix? Could it be something else?<br>

Anytime we have a problem removing a pin we follow these basic steps.

First apply lots and lots of lubricant there's no such thing as too much for this kind of work.

Next take a bit of time and using jack's prybar's or anything else you can come up with move the frame so that if there's visible movement the pain is centered as humanly possible.

Finally using a center punch and a hammer 2 pounds or bigger start tapping the center point of the pin and try to use the punch and hammer to drive the pin out. Just be sure not to hit it so much or so hard or in the wrong place that you mushroom the pin and wedge it in place.

It's usually a combination of the frame not lined up some dust and dirt dry grease or whatever with some rust in the whole binding it up and time loc. cit. in-place once you get it out be sure to use a wire brush like they give you for battery terminal cleaning to clean out the Boer and wire wheel the pin down as best as you can to prevent it in the future.

On the earlier (pre 2005) 6X4s, the parking brake and foot brake are connected together. Adjusting the brakes is pretty easy, but you should refer to the technical manual TM1518 for instructions. Somewhere on this forum there is a link to a downloadable copy.

I have an older 50E powershuttle that has a factory 3 pt lift. The other day when tilling the garden the lift just dropped during a turn when the tiller was lifted. I unhooked the tiller and the lift will raise to the top with no weight but if I (300 lbs.) stand on the arms it will slowly go back down. We have contacted our local dealer but it seems this is a pretty rare tractor in the southeast and not many Massey shops have ever worked on one. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I think that you guys are right. The 12" single plow I have has a shear pin and the tiller I have is slip clutched. Since the plates could freeze and act as no protection at all this could cause a major problem by tearing up my PTO. Given this, the shear pin would probably be the better option. I will be doing some farming but only on a personal level for gardening and food plots for the deer.<br>

I look the name & part number up online. I could not find out no information on how to wire it up. Old the old switch it got bat., acc., st., & ign. On the new switch it got 1,2,3,4,&5. I need to know where the ign. wire on old switch go to on new switch & etc. Any help will helpful. Thanks

Getting back to the 65 PSI issue for a moment.... If the compression test was done correctly then something is wrong with the engine itself. Is that the reading you get for all cylinders? As pointed out earlier the readings you get should be appreciably higher than 65 PSI.

I find some of the things they have to be interesting. Did not find videos long enough. The roll over moldboard plow was neat.

Did notice the amount of spray in the air on the sprayer video and it seems much more than have ever noticed with a sprayer before. Was it due to tips, pressure, height of boom or just watching it carefully?

Much has improved with seals and such since but oh 40 years ago Ford farm tractors had such a problem with this farmers could not use them to cultivate. Now these were one row cultivators weighing less than 300 pounds normally. Couple of ideas were used and to this day one still carries on that that is wheels on large implements and take all weight off of the lift other than transportation. Ford had developed a tolerance like so many hiccups per minutes was considered acceptable and no idea now that number but for real life work was too many.

However that does not help you with your JD does it. Since the Ford issue have always heard it is a seal somewhere as Murf discussed. At same time it was mentioned this happened with fluid low so may be the system's pickup is high enough if fluid is very much low it is sucking some air and may even do so on grade if fluid is not even low or not much low.

That ole Ford is still in the family and while I no longer use it still that lift jumps.

MCHMJ1, Now this is only what I would do, First- I would Make a second appointment to look at this tractor to hear it run and take a pin & paper, Second- Take note that this time he starts it with a key, If yes, thats good, then take down the SN#-XXXXXX. Third- Take that to the local dealer & tell them that you are looking to buy this used tractor and hand him or her the SN#, see if this is a local machine and then ask your tech questions and ask if they by chance have a service record on this tractor, History could be helpful!!!

You maybe be right on the problem but to me an electrical issue will cut it off sometimes and not just stall it. I would look at the full service they did and be sure fuel filter is tight and not leaking air, nothing is in air system such as piece of plastic and being sucked over intake and then dropping off or trash in fuel tank. Check and be sure fuel does not have water in it.
