Your comment that the arms go up, but then settle back down, tells me one thing, AIR.

Hydraulic fluid is not compressible, air sure is though. It sounds like you have, or are getting, air into the lift cylinders. You need to cycle the lift repeatedly, with a full reservoir of oil. If you have a FEL, be sure it's all the way down to ensure its not lowering the fluid level also.

Basically you need to put the 3pth all the way up, to all the way a bunch of times. Be sure you don't have the adjustment set to allow the 3pth to lower really fast either, doing so can cause the hyd. fluid to foam a bit, this means it could suck up foam on the next lift.

I would think that it would be a pretty risky move to try to extend that far.

Even just a few inches extension adds dramatically to the leverage on hubs and spindles.

If you are determined to spread the wheel track, it might be easier to have a local machine shop cut the centers out of your existing rims and make them into offset rims. That or find, as Art mentioned, another unit with the same wheel and source rims for them.

Check the output of your alternator. some of those can go to 300 volts if the regulator goes bad.

In my opinion, for what it's worth, it's not the owner's obligation to quote a TSB number or even to invoke a TSB remedy. Just mention that you're heading for a consumer protection government agency and a personal lawyer for resolution -- unless the dealer can offer a simpler solution. If there's no satisfactory offer, head to Small Claims Court, naming the dealer (especially if that's where you got it) as defendant.

Back in October of last year I hauled a lot of dirt from the back side of our property to our back yard to build up a section, on an incline, where I installed a dog kennel covered with chicken wire to setup a place to raise chickens.

That project went so well that I decided to expand it, and add another dog kennel, covered in chicken wire, right beside the first one, so I can add some more chickens in a separate enclosure, I started this new project in March 2013. All eighteen to twenty inches of rain that we had in my part of Georgia during the month of March slowed me down. I could only move dirt whenever the ground was dry enough to work it. My new project is requiring more dirt to be moved, since the incline where the dirt is going to is steeper. I have moved over fifteen tons of dirt to date. I would estimate that I need to move almost that much more dirt before I can begin the process of installing the dog kennel, covered in chicken wire.

My Kubota L3240 has done an exceptional job. I now have over 110 hours showing on the hour meter. Those of you who know about Kubota’s HST system know that there are three ranges (low, medium, and high) that you can operate in. With the forty series Kubota there is also the ability to shift to low or high range from within each range by simply moving a lever on the left side of the steering wheel up or down. When working in low range Kubota documentation suggests that you gain thirty to forty percent additional torque. I do not know if those numbers are correct or not, but I know that you can definitely tell a difference in the pulling power of the tractor. This really comes in handy when moving dirt. I put the L3240 in medium range. I use the lever mentioned above to drop it into low/medium range. I use my seven shank all purpose plow to soften up the dirt on one pass, going in one direction, and then I come back the other way and scoop up a load of soft dirt. When the front end loader is full of dirt, and I lift it up I then pull the lever up putting the tractor back into high/medium range to speed up my travel speed. This process has certainly improved the process that I use to move dirt.

LESSON LEARNED: Along the way I learned an important lesson on how careful you have to be when moving a tractor with a fully loaded front end loader (FEL) on uneven ground (inclines). It does not take much of an incline to mess you up. I almost flipped my L3240 over once, but was saved by the 430 pounds of ballast water in the left rear tire.

[/QUOTE]Yes, the solenoid is a replaceable component of the starter. It's job is to throw the spinning starter motor pinion gear into the ring gear on your flywheel. When a solenoid either doesn't get enough juice from the battery - or when it's simply wearing out - it gets too weak to throw the pinion far enough. Grinding and/or chattering noises happen instead.

Auto parts stores will test starting systems, but not the actual starter/solenoid itself. For that you have to go to an auto-electric shop. Most tractor starters are easily removed, to be hand carried to the a-e shop. There they can bench test both the starter and the solenoid, and provide a diagnosis. I did this with one of my tractor starters. Testing was free, since it was agreed that any work needed would be performed in that shop. In that case, the starter motor needed rebuilding. I was quite pleased when the total bill only came to $65.

I'm with Oldest. Sold my blower and modified my rear blade:

Lots of extra weight to make up for not having power down. Increased the angle so its path is no wider than the tractor's track. Reinforced the mount so it's not stressed when backpushing hard. Installed various hitches so I can scoop up whatever trailer or implement I need to move. Fabricated a longitudinal wing so when I attach it, the blade becomes (at least at the outflow side) a sort of box-blade (for spreading soil or gravel). Installed a spill-guard so I can pull or push high snow without losing a bunch.

Joel, a couple of minor corrections, as far I know anyways.

First, Yanmar did as you said, but 2 years ago took over the "Cub Cadet" brand as fa as compact tractors, they are sold directly by Yanmar USA now.

Second, Bobcat (owned now by Doosan) buys rebadged Kioti's and sells them as "Bobcat" CUT's, just as Yanmar did with JD.

Finally, New Holland is owned by Fiat Industrial, it's one of their divisions that now makes the NH compacts.

UPDATE...found the problem. rechecked all wiring and when I unwrapped the original wiring harness that goes from the dash to the starter/alternator I found the red power wire was fed into a plastic connector, with the red wire feeding out of the plastic connector on the other pole and then out to the starter. Inside the connector was a little aligator clip jump from one pole to the other!! (loose by the way) I have no idea what the previous owner was doing or even thinking about when he wrapped this cluster #$&* up. Regardless, cut out the connector reconnected wire properly and presto, lights to the dash and cranked like a spring chicken. On a proud note, the alternator upgrade works great. Highly recommended for anyone who is tired of the brake lights used for headlights feature!! kubota engineers dropped ball on that one!

I am no expert about the Long tractor,I do own one a 2360 diesel and if i need any parts i call Joes Tractor--1-336-885-4582 and they will tell me.
I also have massey-ferguson and I have an F-40 ferguson the last tractor harry ferguson made, it is the same tractor as a 50 massey-Ferguson and a 50 massey-harris all 3 tractor are the same except the grill. and one part will work on all 3 tractors..
Also another good number to have is Al-States Ag Parts 1-877-530-4430 they have new ,used and rebuilt parts and the used and rebuilt have a 1 year warrenty.
A very good company.I have done business with them over 35 years.

PS Agtrac is needed located and assembled in Arkansas amd "supposedly" parts are not an issue. The '08 I'm looking at is around $8k w/ loader and older 4' mowing deck. Not sure if that's a good price or not.

Our family has a 601, much like the 8 N still. A grandson now has it. The slow speed of the starting system seems to lend itself to over-choking it. It has been years since I helped on that tractor but NAPA did carry all parts we ever needed. We found the fuel adjustment was always an issue. It would be running great, then let it sit a few days and you would have to adjust the fuel mixture screws.

Murf, no fuel expert but there was an experiment in the US a few years back where they used oil from different seeds I guess. Know they used from soybeans and cottonseed for the cotton seed was the one they reported has the lowest power from it. The short of it as I remember their prediction was a farmer would be able to produce their own fuel. But not aware of that ever catching on but also aware there is biodiesel. Thought that was from regular diesel fuel and cooking oil which much is from seeds.
