Hi, had a few questions about a John deere 4400 tractor. Don't know too much about tractors but wanting to learn. Looking to buy from a private seller not sure of year? (thinking 2000) Not sure if 4x4 plus not hydrostatic. The seller is a widow just wanting to sell in a hurry. She is asking $8000 for the 4400+300cx 60in loader +box scraper+ bush hog+ loading forks. Was wanting info; if a good buy? Any real problems w tractor?And where I could find a good set of turf tires? I do landscaping also where the vin num is located on tractor? Thanks for your reply <br>

Simple things first. Check fuses. Make sure the grounds are all clean and tight. By clean I mean remove them, brush all rust, paint and corrosion out from the connection, then reattach. Make sure your battery cables are good (no crimp-on connectors, they are very flaky). If all that checks out try jumping the starter to see if it cranks (bypass the key switch).

The part that attches to the bucket is the holder and the tooth slides over it and is designed to be replaced easily. A good farm shop will have what you need. If not just tack weld the tooth back on. No biggie.

Perhaps I should explain a bit better what I'm doing.
Think of a basement that has been dug but not had the cement walls poured yet. This is what I've ended up with after taking soil from it for a few years when the need arose starting with no hole at all just level ground. Without using a tapemeasure I'm guessing the dimensions to be like 30 X 50 X 4 - 6 ft. deep. there is a ramp like entrance to the pit on the shallow corner where I take the soil out a bucketfull at a time. My attempt is to keep the "Floor" of the pit somewhat level so I take soil from a wall of the pit down to "Floor" level. When we've had adequate rain the bucket edge will dig into the wall well enough to scoop out a bucketfull with one lift. Now with the soil really dry the bucket edge is just too hard to push into the wall but using the forks to loosen it makes things go lots easier for the loader to scoop it up and haul it out.
OK now EW if I'd go a bit deeper I could bury two modern school busses or four of my kind of busses your choice. Cheap as used school busses are this may be an alternate to building a 500K house.

I guess that nobody here has one and that you won't need tools to detach one PTO and maybe two lift connectors, and pull it out sideways or drive over it. You could get better info at a bota dealer.

Hi - whilst I don't currently have a power lift on my Gator, I've been planning to install one. I believe that the top end of the actuator just rides in the channel in the middle of the cargo bed at the back. I've had a look in the tech. manual and also at the parts list at the Deere.com site. There is no mention of an upper bracket. I've uploaded a picture of the actuator taken from the manual - see it in my pictures.

i had the exact problem and i tried it all i bought a book and found out that the generator will do the same when it goes bad it will energize both sides of the starter seloniod and melt wires and burn up the starter it was to late when i learned this and now i am putting a new starter on it wich you can get a late model acdelco starter and also an ac delco alternator and be gone with the generator. i love my tractor she is a work in progress but she is my baby

You seem to be all over the forum so I�m sure you have to put up with a lot of inexperience. I am certainly no exception to the rule. I do know a little about a lot of things but it would have been difficult for me to have found this particular problem alone without needless spending and effort. I did learn from this and I sincerely thank you for your expertise and willingness to help me as well as others on this forum.

Agree with Greg's thoughts. The negative I have seen with with those of Pat's design has been you are moving the load further back (lift capacity and light front end) and pto shafts may need to be longer.

For me connecting the lowest lift pin on the implement and then using the lift itself to slowly life to get the higher pin to line up. Yes, the third arm is the last connect to make and the first to disconnect.

Think Auerback said the next easy hook up begins with proper disconnect...he is so right. Get both tractor and implement level and make sure lift arms will lower below the pin height before you cut loose. No fun to have to lift something to have to connect it.

Ign switch bad or start relay bad. The start relay has to pull to start it. I guess the ground wire from the ign switch could be chafed too. I'd start with the ign switch.
