Seems to me it would be a whole bunch less hassle to just use some form of extension, like a quick-hitch, to move the mower back a few inches.<br>

A finish mower is hardly likely to put a massive strain on the 3pth, you could probably get away with just using tube steel that slipped over the 2 lower arms with holes for the pins. <br>

Most mowers have little flex arms to keep the mower floating, does yours not have these, if not add some, or extend the ones you have.<br>

Been here before!!! They are measured on top of the lugs not the casing so on soft or tilled soils this can be a driveline killer!!! This can happen between turfs and industrial tires or the ag tires. My awakening was between R-1 and R-3's which is where I had the trouble and it did mean drive shaft u-joints within thirty minutes of operating time turning grease to mighty hot oil!!!!

I have a power steering problem with this unit. I has been prevelant since I bought the tractor new but has gotten worse over the years. Mahindria would not do anything with it as they said the tractor was not tested or rated for a frontend oader. Whe I start the tractor I have to have the RPMs at aroud 1500 and turn the steering to the left first to get the steering to engage, turning to the right after turning left is ok, but if I try turnig right without first turning slightly left takes about ten turns of the steering wheel before it will start turing right, Any help appreciated, Ps. I am not loosing fluid.

I pull started my 420AN as I had a broken starter selinoid and it was out in the pasture. After it started I stopped it, put the shuttle shift in neutral, got off to disconnect the chain from the other tractor, got back on the 420 put the shuttle into forward and the tractor would not move. I checked the shuttle shift to see if it had slipped out of socket but it is ok. The transmission is not stuck between gears. I have to clutch the engine to shift the trans,or the suttle shift, but it will not move when the clutch is engaged.The clutch was replaced about 150 hrs run time ago. I locked the differential as this unit has ondemand four wheel drive and still nothing. any ideas out there that would eleminate a seperation?

I have a 420AN, but not an electrical diagram. The button you are talking about is the ground button for the entire electrical. The ground from the battery hooks directly to it. In the engaged position (pushed in) the batteries (two 6 volts in series) are setup for a complete circuit for what ever you are wanting to do. If a fuse blows as soon as you push the button in, there is a short circuit somewhere in the circuit. If it is this 15A fuse, trace the wire from the side of the fuse that is not connected to the battery, and you should find your problem, ie a bare shorted wire, or defective item that is operated by that branch of the circuit. rhino, I'm sorry and I got you off on the wrong track last night, I had you partially in neutral when you should have been in gear, so I'm going to try again. First of all the F3 fuse needs to be good. Ign. in run, shifter in gear, parking brake off, press gas pedal. Power goes via yellow wire thru throttle switch and out tan wire to neutral interlock relay. Since trans is not in neutral ( where I screwed up before ) and the parking brake off, power goes thru relay and out green wire to start solenoid. So the green wire is the power to pull the solenoid. So you press the gas tan wire out of the throttle switch is hot. Tan wire into the neutral lock relay is hot and the green wire out of that relay is hot to the start solenoid. It looks like if your park brake switch is bad or out of adjustment it will mess things up. Also that green wire goes to two other relays that could be pulling it down. Neutral run latch relay and ignition relay.

Buy it, the problems you describe sound minor. Poorly maintained yes, but also likely remedied without major expense.<br>
1. OPSU is adjustable. <br>
a. loosen jam nut behind OPSU enough to where you can rotate the sending unit by hand<br>
b. turn keyswitch to ON<br>
c. rotate OPSU both ways and watch for corresponding movement on the gauge<br>
d. if gauge moves, rotate OPSU till needle indicates 0 psi.<br>
e. tighten jam nut.<br>
Obviously if that doesn't work, further troubleshooting is required. <br>
2. PTO speed select usually has ball detente system to hold it in position. Check for dirt in the high speed hole. Even then it's not a significant issue, because most CUT owners in this country don't have implements that require 1000 rpm anyway<br>
3. Drain/flush/refill gear boxes with fresh non-foaming 80W90. I recommend flushing with kerosene.<br>
4. Drain/flush/refill engine with fresh 15W40 diesel engine oil. Do the injection pump while you're at it. Any auto parts store flush will do for the engine, kero for the pump.<br>
Probably a good idea to flush the hydraulics and cooling system too.<br>

yes the dealer came out and lubricated the rod that operates the safety switch. This rod is operated by the pedal so if it is stiff it could cause the pedal to be slow I suppose.
Seems to be ok now. Maybe it was just a coincidence that the symptoms first occurred just after a service.

Gale, I think there's one big difference you're missing in all of this.

Are you saying the tractor has a two stage clutch and the pto stage is not working now? Or you saying you want to know if you can adjust a single stage clutch to work like a two or dual stage clutch does?

Torque specs, for Y385 as given to me by JM Parts.com....
I used these specs in a build, and these are the results. All specs in Foot Poundsrather than Newton Meters.

Flywheel 36-44 Foot Pounds---About Right
Head 110-125 ---------- 125 is close to the failure point of bolts
Rod 36-44-------------About Right.. Note-for this bolt diameter,
80 foot pounds or so will ruin the bolts
Mains 81-95----------- Don't know, didn't change the mains.

Please be patient when researching data, and it might be wise to compare
torques and bolt diameters for high test bolts with fine threads, to see if the
specs seem right to you. The head and rod bolts are not marked with numbers to indicate their tensile strength, but I would assume they are high test.

I'm living in the Swiss Mountains (Europe)and since a few weeks I'm the proud owner of a John Deere Gator HPX 4x4 Diesel (2006) which has been running about 400 hours till now. Unfortunately the differential lock blocks by itself when I'm turning the Gator by driving forwards and backwards. After stopping and moving backwards, everything is working normally. The differential lock starts by itself even when I am driving normal (without differential lock and without 4-wheel-drive). What could be the problem?<br>
