Actually Jeff it's an iPhone not a crackberry. But yes, it's the device, nut the loose nut operating it.

We were having a good laugh over it too BTW, it seems that only does the 'intuitive spelling' not only make some funny corrections (such as 'course' instead of 'coarse') and ommissions, but it seems it doesn't even know English. It only knows 'American'. Thus if I try to spell, for instance, "neighbour" correctly it tries to 'correct' it by removing the U thus misspelling it.

Oh well, at least it keeps you busy. ;)

In the long run the hydraulic rotators are the lowest price although they do cost more when new. The hydraulic rotators we often never see them for years but the electric ones it seems that we see several every year in for repair. About the time that it is past it's prime and needs to be replaced, the price becomes quite equal if not cheaper for the hydraulic units. Hydraulics are faster and if proper care of the spout rotation system is not given it does have the strength to clear ice from the system or to bend metal.

Your care of the whole system will mean a lot to the electrics longevity.
To remove the spout every year to ensure the plastic is clean and not grooved do to sand and foreign materail is removed.
To be sure that the electrical connections are cleaned and sealed with dielecric grease to keep moisture out.
It still will not give you the longevity of the hydraulic.

I think you can plow better with an XUV. We just had a big snow around here and my son used his HPX with a V plow and he was very pleased at how it performed. He did most of the plowing in the V position and then finished it off with it in the straight blade configuration. I don't have any experience with the Polaris so I can't say anything that will help you.

Does your HPX's front axle have a CV joint and a u-joint, or does it have 2 CV joints. I thought that they had used the new style axles after SN 40000. In my opinion, I don't feel a new snap ring is a permanent solution. I haven't worked on mine yet but will hopefully this week. Plan "A", if possible is to limit axle movement or back up the snap ring with a locking shaft collar or something? Plan "B", I may jack it up and work the suspension and measure necessary axle movement. I will then consider removing my axle and cutting it and lengthening it to a new size that prevents it from coming out, but gives it any end play it may need.

Since I posted this nearly two years ago, the Branson dealer went out of business. I did buy a new, New Holland TC-30, (no longer in production) for $12,000 with zero financing for 60 months. One thing I like about it is the hood cowling is made of sheet iron not plastic. It did not have a folding ROPs, I had to cut it off so I could get it into my shop. I added a heavy duty "Tooth Bar" to the bucket, I use my loader to turn large compost piles and the teeth make it so much eaiser, also good for ripping into hard sun baked dirt piles etc. The dealer, do to the recession is down to one mechanic but still in business but I have had no need for them as I do all my own service and have not had any mechanical problems. The heaviest work loads I put on it is with a 5' brush hog, that runs about 1.5 gallons of low sulfer diesel, per hour. I am very happy with this tractor. It is my third new, New Holland in the ppast 11 years.

Yes, I apologize for answering and giving recognition to the others and not your response which was there for me to read right away. The Mrs. was ugring me to get off that thing and get ready for Church right then, so my answer was made in haste.
I do have plenty of 1/2 in. black iron pipe that was originally intended to pipe the gas in to the furnace and pipe the air around the building. The gas did get piped in but the compressed air never got done.
There never seems to be an end to the things I want to do to improve the shop but being realistic the things left to do like hardlineing the air, putting in a freight elevator, etc, etc. will probably add little to the value of the building. I've had other buildings from a dirt floor chicken coup on up that were on rented farms that I made do as a shop but this is the second building I've built that was intended from the start to be a shop. I leared a few things from doing them wrong the first time, and still never learned everything I should have.

You have a lot to look at and you have had some good reponses on the abilities of the tractor from the stand point of commercial users down to people much like you.

I recently had a past tenent who stopped over with his new neighbor. It was interesting for me to listen to what had happened from the neighbor. His neighbor was running his compact tractor and trying to manuver a stone that was about three foot to four foot diameter depending on how you measured it. He wasn't having to good of luck moving it when my old tenent came over to see what he was trying to do. He asked if he could try and he was able to manuver the stone to where he wanted it with no problem according to how the story was told and he asked me if I could help him with learning how to better operate his tractor so he could run it as well.
It isn't always the tool as much as it is how you use it!

I'm finding that Fastenal is also carrying a lot of tools now. I use them quite a bit now especial for the variety of nuts bolts and the like. Before finding them I've traveled over 60 miles looking for a few particular square headed bolts and nuts ( even tryed out of the way OLD time hardwares, too (-love going into them tho)). Only to find out, only Fastenal either have in stock or ordered in a day or two. I'm restoring some old equipment and trying to keep fastners looking like original.

We weren't smart enough to think about the oil leaking out and all that when we rolled the old Chevy on er side. I think our total tool inventory consisted of a vice grip, screwdriver, and probably a twelve inch crescent. The pistons were likely loose enough that the oil slid back down in a few seconds.

Read post 4 times. I think, if it is acting like mine, there is a linkage issue. I now, most of the time, know just as soon as I move lever I can feel wether it went in gear Fwd or rev or not. I have to reclutch and bump the lever again.

Sometimes it cause me to growl but most of time I just deal with it and move past. Mine is in the linkage and it has not caused me enough stress to rip apart.
