Steve, at this time of year you should detach the mower. (Belly-mounts have strong advantages, but ease of off/on is not one of them.)

Clean the surface, lube the spindles, check the gearbox. Use a felt marker to draw the belt path because all belts fail eventually. Also mark the turning direction. Use a chain on the FEL to stand it up. Remove and service the blades. Clean and oilspray the undersurface. Store for the winter.

Earth, the tire circumferance is the same with chains on. Mine are not thick mesh that covers the rolling surface, but a link every 6" or so, having the same effect as rolling over a small stone. As for scraping and wearing, if you don't need the added traction at the moment, you should not be in 4WD. In any case, I was suggesting the doing the fronts as a way to try out chains, a step to getting all four.

As for ballast, I should think he'd want a rear blade rather than wasting the hitch on just something heavy. But he might want a good weight over the blade unless he has down-power at the hitch, which I doubt. As for tire filling, I've had calcium ballast in the rears since new, and the only problem in 30 years was the valves corroding from it (a simple replacement). He might be better off calling a farm tire shop than the tractor dealer.

That's what BBs are designed for. If they have teeth, they are removable. Most hitches don't have down-power so you may need weights.

Rear blades are cheaper but are more for leveling and pushing to the side than for redistributing. But you could make metal end-caps to covert the blade to a poor-man's BB. Blades are fine for snow and gravel, not so good on earth-leveling.

A wood chipper is not a paper punch. To maximize uniformity get one with a manual feed or an easily-adjustable roller-feeder, and ensure the material is fed in slowly and gradually.

If the specs are, say, a six-inch intake, that just means that size intake, not that it will chew a 6" log -- unless it's balsa wood.

You might look into renting one the first time. It's more work than you'd think feeding it, and maintaining it (which the owner does).

You don't tee in another outlet. You put it in series with the other valves.

I have a DK55 with 296 hours and was using loader to push a tree over and tractor refused to engage in forward or reverse? I have checked linkage on All shifters (F&W, H,L,M and 1,2,3,4 and all appear to be correct. I did have the shuttle linkage come loose (3yrs ago) right after I got tractor. Any ideas would be appreciated. Skip

The doohickey barrel was split and wouldn't stay on the rod but it turns out the ball end on the carb was worn so bad that it wouldn't stay snapped into the doohickey anyway. So I drilled the ball off the carburetor throttle shaft and replaced the doohickey and ball combination with a prefabricated ball joint that NAPA had in stock.

But I'm still curious to know exactly what the doohickey is called.

Good advice on the winch for turning the chute. It worked pretty slick, and only cost $90. Now I just wait for the snow to try it out!

I used to have a mule that over heated it ruined the head 2 and the gasket 4 times tried everything and still couldnt find the problem. so just send it down the road all it will do is cost you more money

A week or more of well below normal temps, mid twenties for lows and seemingly unending drizzle have kind of put a lid on the real bold colors. We live just on the western edge of the Northeastern Iowa hills that get real pretty. We plan on going over the bridge to SW Wisconsin for a couple days just looking around and as always bring home some of their delicious cheese.
