Hey PJ, do you have a front wheel drive machine there, Where the rear wheels are only along for the ride? :) If you will ask a farmer who has a two wheel drive tractor how long his front wheels last compared to the rear wheels as to wear you will find they last every bit as long. So steering, caster and chamber can not be causing the wear by themselves that is seen on a 4 wheel drive unit. Even on a two wheel rear drive vechicle the front and rear wear about same speed. Now when you put the drive job on them the front wear much faster than the rear.

I recently installed new hydraulic filters (including the upgrade #723-3071 filter for the 25 hour first service interval. I only added new fluid to replace what was lost during the filter changes.

It might be my imagination but the tractor does seem to drive and work better - particularly the three point lift.

I strongly recommend that if you have not upgraded to the new reverse flow filter model using the #CC-566 adapter housing that you do so. You can order the parts from R.F. Houtz & Son in Elburn, IL - Ph: 630-365-6551. They are very helpful folks.

It seems to run alright and does not miss. The only thing I have noticed is that it does not start as quickly as it did in the past. It will turn over just a few times before it starts now. In the past it seems like you just touched the key and it was runnning no matter what the air temp was. It has around 290 hours on it now.

Hi, I have a 1986 165D with loose floppy steering. The gear cases are worn out and have a lot of slop. It is the no front end loader model and I suspect the lighter duty gear casings. I need them fixed or replaced. Thanks

Yes,everytime I mow it is a 4-5 hr. job depending on how tough or tall the grass is.This Steiner is holding up great,although I am babying it somewhat, as the wife says this is my last new one,(Yea Right).I tended to use the other Steiners to their FULLEST and broke a couple of parts(Not the tractors fault).I am also up to 7 attachments and can say they all perform as advertised. Not quite, but really close to that.

The carbs on such aircraft as mine are equipped with an extra restrictor plate in the carb that limits fuel flow to just slightly more than that which the engine can burn in a WOT situation.

This was an invention developed by a young British (female) engineer during WWII. The German aircraft were fuel-injected and the Allied aircraft were carbureted so it didn't take long for the Germans to learn that all they had to do was make a sudden dive to get away from a pursueing Allied aircraft. If the American or British pilot followed his plane would quickly bog down due to flooding. The quick & dirty solution was a restrictor in the carb to stop (or nearly so) the flooding. To this day it's known as a "Miss Shilling" plate.

In aircraft terms centrifugal force is almost always called "g force" and measured in units of 'g', regardless of the direction or orientation of the aircraft. It is usually described as an imaginary piece of string from the "C of G" (Center of Gravity) and leading off to the direction of the force in a singular linear direction which is the result of all the varying forces being blended into a single resultant force. This is much easier to calculate and deal with in that form.

So then if properly done, a turn (or any other maneuver) is called a "balanced" maneuver if it results in a +1g force straight down, the same as if the plane was parked on the ground.

The 'toy' thing is moving along but very slowly, LOTS of people are doing the same thing, and there aren't (at the moment any 'bargains' in your (MI, IN, W.OH.) area. If you see something that looks good drop me a note though, it doesn't all make it to the web where we can see it from here.

Last week on public radio there was a program devoted to a hydrogen powered railroad locomotive that someone has built and is being tested. The details were skimpy at best as to whether is uses a turbine engine or another type. Only details I remember are that it is engine over electric compared to piston diesel over elecric and that whatever type engine is used is enough lighter than a conventional diesel that ballast had to be added to maintain traction. There was also some consern about a large volume of high pressure hydrogen getting loose in a derailment or crossing colision.<br>
This seems like something that could work. A locomotive could have a large hydrogen fuel tank behind the locomaotive like an old steame engin had a coal tender behind.<br>
Anyone else know anything about this?

VERY GOOD Mr. Webbee. Check for priors and then ask. Your problem is in your carb. A new one will fix, but you can also try a new seat valve. Take your carb off, take the bowl off, turn it upside down and check the float level. If the float is dipped down below parallel to the bowl mounting surface, and I'm sure it is, you need a new seat valve. AS the tang on the float rubs on the end of the seat it wears the seat away to the point that it isn't long enough to completely seal off the gas flow and so you start leaking gas past the seat and you flood your motor. Part # is M95924, around 20.00.

Regarding the manual, it can be a real pain trying to help someone with a complex procedure that is described in the manual. A lot of time can be spent typing information from procedures that span multiple pages, pictures and diagrams are difficult to describe, and something always gets lost in the process. Sometimes the manual is the best solution.<br>
