Earth's question brings back something I once came across (forgot where). It seems the Spitfires could not fly inverted but the enemy ME109 could, and a European came up with something (a carb?) that would allow the Spit to also do so, and had difficulty getting the Brits to listen to him. <br>

To this day, every aircraft either is or is not certified for inverted light. Another factor is fuel-flow design (gravity feed wouldn't work). And wing design, pilot restraint system, etc.<br>

Been researching 2- vs 4-strokes. The latter mainly have a cleaner (and quieter) exhaust, but are heavier, costlier, and harder to start. They use less fuel but require oil changes. Longevity is similar: the 4s have more parts but work at lower speeds. And they ARE weaker. So I'll get a replacement 2-stroke while still available.

Sorry but the use the search and get a book is way out of line to me in what a user group is all about.

Even if it is sugar coated.

After being told to use the search and get a manual why should you reply? You would move on anyway.

I have been using forums since their conception. More and more groups are making the "Use the search" replies against the rules.
It's rude. If I wanted to help out like that I would at least provide the link to the thread. My way of saying "Use the search" is to search it myself and provide the link. We are here to ask and help, not police the forum.

Use the search and get a book is not very much help. The big thing is how do they know one did not use the search.

There are usually forum cops in groups that stress because they know it has been discussed before and get high blood pressure because the question has been asked again.

If you don't have an answer just move on and be at peace with your self. Another member may want to help in his own way. Don't take members to raise.

[/QUOTE]You're lookin' at the wrong picture EW. It's the top one labeled 1622250 torque limiter, not the one beneath it. Go back to that link, then click where it says "[i]More Images[/i]". The difference will quickly become apparent.

Not sure if this is the same problem that I had. There is a bolt on the underside of the mower (around the area of the front of the seat) that holds a spring attached to a pulley for the drive belt. It's possible just like mine that the bolt worked it way loose and fell off. I can't remember the size of the bolt but do remember using loc-tite when I replaced it

Been trying to gey exact info of what went on but had no luck. Some sources claim the tractors had to have mechanical besides cosmetic changes????. I am only used to having 30 to 50 year old trctors. If I buy a new one don't want to get stuck with a lemon :-).

Tube is an overflow, if the other end is flanged someone put it on backwards. Take your fuel supply line off at the carb and turn the key on. If you get fuel and you have strong spark you need an ignition module. AM132577, around 350.00

OK - thanks Ken. Obviously I know little about electricity even though my Dad ran a power plant and my BIL builds power plants. The tractor is still running fine so the K6 module was the problem.

EJ, you are right on the money about value. There are a lot of good tractors but many lose their value quickly. Often the value is lost not by quality but by the absence of a parts chain and consistent dealer support which take years to build. How many times have people posted about not being able to find parts for less prolific brands?

I like the TCO (true cost to own) model Edmunds uses to rate cars and trucks. It takes into account estimated fuel consumption, cost to insure, repair costs and depreciation. Expensive brands are often among the cheapest to own because depreciation costs are so much lower.

Depreciation factors into tractor cost too but not if the owner never sells it. However, a tractor parked due to lack of parts isn't worth much.

Customer loyalty is built by consistently providing a solid product and good support. In today's short sighted business environment building loyalty is low on the priority list - quarterly profits rule and "loyalty" is proclaimed by marketing as an afterthought.

Rereading this it sounds like a bunch of labor day rambling.

This past spring I bought a used Ventrac 3000. It has somewhere between 450 and 500 hours. I think maybe the bearings on the center shaft are noisy. I have been told they don't fly apart, but they get real noisy. How easy are these to replace? Has anyone done this themselves?

Thanks for the replies, gents. I finally found a print of the bracket then called my dealer. He said the part number (K2521-82157) is the same for both the old and new bracket, only difference is the old one is $4 and the new one is $68! Ordered a new one and had the broken one welded up so I have a spare now. Thanks again...

So many different models of Deere mowers that a general answer is about impossible. Perhaps someone here has a 445 that can walk you thru it.
Did you get an owners manual with the tractor? That would likely have the how to on mounting and dismounting the mower deck, the blade probably came with an owners manual for it alone.
If you didn't get the manuals a Deere dealer can get them for you, money well spent.

If there is in fact a fuel cut-off solenoid, I'd say you have a bad ground. The starter motor needs a good ground to pull enough amps to turn the flywheel, the stop solenoid need enough to kick the throttle closed. Sounds like neither is happening. First place to start is the battery ground cable. Remove and thoroughly clean both ends. Grind off the paint down to bare metal where it bolts to the tractor frame. Weatherproof both ends, connect it back up. Do the same with the positive battery cable, with exception of the grinding part. Try again.<br>

Poods77, if you have the time get out and meet the neighbors. Many can give you great advice if only one narrow area. Some may think you are a threat to their income so listen with caution also. Find where the farmers meet and visit with them. That could be local corner store, diner, feed store you get the idea. Be ready to laugh at yourself or to admit I don't know and hope you can help me. Most people are very willing to help if asked politely...hey like here!

You may do well to find a neighbor who will farm the acreage for say one year and you watch him and maybe you can swap his use of that land to work your garden for you. That will only work if he has the size equipment to work a garden. Real crop tractors are too big for most gardens. Or you may find someone who is willing to swap your help for use of machines you need. Often this comes with time though.
