I have a BX2230 purchased new in Sept '05. It has 355 hours. There is a bracket bolted to the strap around the air cleaner housing and runs down and bolts to the block below the injector pump which broke. I found a number for a bracket, but it is for a different mounting bracket. I am not sure if I have the older model bracket I see reference to or a new model. I found pics of an "L" bracket that bolts to the strap around the air cleaner then to the top of the engine, but my bracket is about 12" long and bolts to the block below the injector pump. What do I have (beside a broken bracket!!)? Any info on part number or link to print on the part would be appreciated...

Welcome! You will find this is a great site to learn everything you want to learn about tractors.

My first impression is an L model might be a bit much for mowing 6 acres and maintenance on 700' driveway. Have you looked at the B models?

I don't see where Kubota has ever sold an L 3240 so you may have your model #'s off a bit. In any case an L model is a pretty big tractor for what you need to do and I'm assuming you are looking at something in the 30 HP range. Is there anything else you plan on using the tractor for other than mowing, bladeing a driveway or gardening? You could do all that even with a BX model, but a B model would do nicely.

I would get a Front End Loader (FEL). A FEL is the most versatile and used implement on a CUT. I would also get a box blade for the driveway.

And I would go with HST.....no question. It's easier, faster and much more versatile and especially if your wife will be using the tractor. There are a few folks on this board that like a GST, but the HST is substantially more preferred by most.

As to mfg, all three you mentioned have a good reputable product. Go with the tractor that you like the best as to features etc, but the dealer's reputation is a big factor as well. Go with a dealer that will be around and that has a good rep for service and assistance.

I have regraded some areas of my property but am not ready to replace the loam yet. Is there some type of "grass" that I can plant and forget to cover the sandy subsoil? I know from experience that given enough time weeds and grass will grow on this.<br>

Murf to what do attribute the success--workmanship aside?
Would any braided material work such as wire rope? Or any section profile e.g round, square, triangular so long as it higher than the tire tread?

I have to think the nylon rope became brittle.

Speaking of experimenting, I read a guy down sout' got his tractor stuck pretty badly. He chained a timber across both tires, started it up and in doing so decapitated himself. DOH!

Assuming yes, that is a perception. The reality is you have no more stability with a wide front end than you do with a side-by-side, two-tire tricycle front end. The axles' pivot point vertically are the same (horizontally the difference is the pivot point of the wide axle under the engine; the pivot point of a tricycle is the ground.) And unlike a car or truck, there are no springs, shocks, or bumpers to push back on the axle creating resistance and therefore stablility. Granted, a wide axle does have the ultimate benefit of eventually hitting built-in stops--but by then it could be too late.

To take SS one step further, stabilty is actually increased especially with a loader since the axle is forward by about 8" or more compared to non-SS.

I have all the manuals for parts and repair. Everything is original except the motor, and replaced hoses. My father made sure to replace with same size hoses as original. The blades are original simplicty blades. I mow in 2nd gear 3/4 throttle at half speed. This tractor will cut 2ft grass no problem. i can clear a field easily. Its a strong tractor i dont think whats its cutting is a problem. Now im only using it to cut my yard. My lawn is pretty level, i mean there arent any hills to climb, I mow it pretty regular as well. The manual calls for a charge pressure between 50 and 150psi. the charge pressure it at 150 right now. Should i drop the charge pressure back to say 120psi. The implement pressure is supposed to be between 700 and 800psi i have it at 700psi. in the winter i have to raise it to 760psi so i can lift the snow blower attachment. And yes your right the transmission has not been rebuilt or replaced? Should i now check that as well? Thanks in advance for the help!

The background on that mileage figure was just released. And I can tell you yes, in fact it WILL get 230 mpg. Under certain conditions. <br>

It can go up to 40 miles on the battery alone. So if you pussyfoot for around 40 miles and then go another, say, three miles, the gas consumed for the TOTAL 43 miles would work out to the astonishing figure. <br>

But if you then can't plug it in, and just burn gas thereafter, your mileage would be nothing to brag about. On the other hand, if you recharge before the battery runs down (regardless of driving technique), your gas consumption would be zero, making your mpg, um, infinite?<br>

As to specs do both have the same lift capacity in pounds and amount of lift? Does one use chains to keep lift arms centered and the other sliding stablizers if so the sliding stablizers is normally more desirable.

Have you drove both? Does one fit you better than the other or the layout of controls?

But if all is close ask what brand engine is in each. Over time you will need parts and to me a company who uses their own engine will keep parts in stock longer. But realize that is not always true. To me you have picked two good brands.

wizbang, how do you plan to pull those cedar stumps? Been about 27 years since I walked over some Texas land with the cedars but "pulling" with drawbar pull only it takes a lot of weight and hp to pull stumps. More than many think unless dug first.

My PS runs from the center of the front axel to the left inside tire; parrelell with the axel. Fortunately it looks very much like it does in the manual (unlike the hydraulic filter system). Yes it looks like it's mating to a short rod. Thanks for the assist.

Hopefully this picture URL will work. The Deere knobbys are larger diameter and high flotation vs. the smaller turf tire. The terrain in the picture is dry sand. Not a problem even with the diff lock off. Can't imagine getting through it with turf. My only complaint is that the front tires are so large that the knobs can actually rub on the wheel opening plastic bumper when loaded and turning at just the right angle on very uneven terrain. No damage just a bit of an annoying brrrrr sound.

Ironpeddler and Infringed probably each of you are a good person but upset here and maybe rightly so. Surly each of you rather find solution than what is going on here.

Some of the comments would make we walk around the product if buying. No, I don't think I know either of you and as I posted earlier not a tractor tiller user or owner.

Jeff, you may be right about that nut, but my son in law seems ok and he is the main one running it this summer. Wait he does work for the guber-mint but not the feds rather the locals.

As to humidity, which of course is water which of course does not conduct electricty but when such as dirt is added to the water it does a great job of conducting electricty and so does adding salt to it.

Gator wet brakes will always squeel or squeak sooner or later. If you do your 1100.00 brake job it will fix it for awhile, but it will come back. Drive your gator around and pull up the emergency brake off and on and scrub the shoes off. It may take a long time but it will stop squeeling. At that point you can drain your transaxle and refill with Hy-gard fluid. If you don't have JD fluid make sure what you put in is compatable with J20C specs. JD fluid is the best. This helps sometimes and sometimes not. Evidently it doesn't take much contamination to ruin the fluid in the transaxle. I wonder how much of the 600.00 the tech gets for doing the brake job. That's pretty ridiculous.

Thanks all. I could find very little on the tractor, so I sold it. The new owner said he liked a challenge, and liked the looks of the tractor. I told him I could not find anything about the tractor on the net. He stated he was going to take it on anyway. I hope he has better luck than I did.
