Does it have or has it ever had a loader mounted on it?

What do you plan on cutting with the 72" rough cut mower? I expect it would do OK under many circumstances but if you plan to cut 1-2" thick woody material or 6 foot dense brush you'd probably be pushing it.

We have about 8 acres and plan on buying a tractor for the first time. A cab is a must, so I've been looking at the Kioti DK 35/DK40, Kubota 3530 and JD 3520 with a FEL, 6 ft. mower and box blade. The Kioti looks like you get a lot more for your $$$ and it seems from the forum, they're very reliable and comparable to the kubota or Deere. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. We know a 38 to 40 hp is probably overkill for this size acreage, the need for a cab will drive the size of the tractor.

I have never used a mid mount mower on a tractor but know both sets of wheels running over grass before a rear mount dill press the grass before it is cut. I have and used a good bit a 72" Bushhog Brand RFM and am very pleased with the cut.

All of this is on RFM and might not apply for Mid Mount. Height adjustment is normally a set of different spacers to adjust the height, not a change on the go system. PTO shaft should come with it. How hard is it to grease the blade spindes? Do you want a side discharge or rear one? Does it have a floating mount design? How thick is the deck? The following probably will vary very little from one brand to another but you need to know: How hard is it to change the blades? How much do they cost?

On RFM you may wish to know if the tires are air filled or solid.

Ken, ole EW is not even a good thorn in the flesh. (wait, did have something in one sock Saturday had to remove! :) Even not doing it for a living am working as hard as he does...

Jeff ole boy...come on down for Thanksgiving, will sit a place for you. No don't want you as the turkey either. The reason I took the pictures was to control what was in them and what was not in them, like me! If you looked at the pond, do you think I am fishing?? Oh, if all is done by Thanksgiving I will be most thankful. Since you are so good at math; need about 4 more feet of fill in area about 75 by 150 and then a few more pockets around the trees to do. Then widen the dam by about 6 or so feet so you can drive safely around it for maintance and fishing. In doing so have to dig out the sides on the pond that are just above full water level now to give some deep areas (10 to 15 feet) for cooler summer water as we will be then raising the spill way about a foot. So if done before 2010 will be very pleased.

According to tractordata.com that tractor is suppose to have 4.8 gallons of fuel capacity. If only two gallons is all you can get in drained tank then check out the inside of the tank. No idea if you can on this tank or not but some you can take flash light and see the fuel outlet, if you can see if it is clear. Drain a few ounces of the current fuel into a glass jar or such and let it sit for an hour or so and if there is water in it that will settle to the bottom. Or even pour it slowly on a smooth surface and you will see the water as it will separate from the fuel. If no sign of water and you are getting full fuel flow through your filter would think the issue is else where.

As to overheating, I only see that Earthwrks suggested that but do not see you confirming that it does. Are you seeing any sign it is overheating? Temp gauge, coolant boiling over, radiator low? But on this size engine changing out the coolant would not be that big of a deal. But there could still be clogged radiator, bad thermostat or water pump which changing the coolant would not solve. How about the radiator, can you see through it or is it clogged with dirt or trash? Do no use pressure washer as you can damage the cooling fins, but with engine off and cooled off use water hose to wash through the cooling fins or following Murf's suggestion use a leaf blower (has worked well for me with no concern on engine temp).

I understand you did change out the air filter(s) but look for say a rat's nest of any such trash in the air intake at least up to the filter.

If loosening the fuel cap helped and your tank will really only hold two gallons of fuel, think you will find the problem in the tank. I wonder if possible the tank has collapsed partly or if there has been some kind of trash on purpose or accidently placed in it.

Again per tractordata.com this engine is 16 hp with 13.5 to the pto. What size mower are you using with it? Does it cut off if the mower is not engage, just the tractor idling and it does not matter the rpm or load on the engine on how long it runs before it problems starts? I would think if fuel starvation the higher rpm and load on it the quicker it would show up. Same if it is an overheating issue.

Depends where the subframe is attached at the back, for instance, to the drawbar area (where it could impede how high you could raise a mid-mount mower), vs to the axle, but it shouldn't interfere with the hitch. If you don't get the biggest hoe that it will carry, and you use it fairly gently, you could reasonably risk attaching it to the hitch. A front loader helps the balance.

Prices do vary from region to region some but what I found the best for me was to talk with 2 or 3 dealers, each one being close enough to be and my being comfortabe with them to be my dealership. Saving a $1,000 and no support is not a good deal. If you will be using it to make a living that is even more important.

Know nothing about this tractor but have you check the hyd oil to see if that is the issue with the power steering and fel? Don't think a hyd pump will run off of the clutch but do you have hyd engaged PTO if so an issue in the hyd system I guess could affect all of this.

Does your lift work?

The scuffing is it from the rear or front tires? If front slow down a little for the turn and it probably will solved that.
