I removed the shaft from the lower wheel housing. I found all the pieces intact (External C clip, spring, interior C clip, etc.) but the external C clip that holds the shaft tight against the spring clip and face of the sleeve bearing had either slipped from its place in a groove on the shaft (doubtful), or (more likely) had never been seated fully in the groove when the C clip was installed, and had finnaly just worked its way down the shaft, allowing the shaft to ride 1/4 inch toward the operator, and pulling with it the pulley into the blade guard at the rear of the saw housing.

Since I never had reason to fiddle with the shaft in the twenty plus years that I have had the saw, I guess that my father-in-law, who owned the saw before me, was the guilty party for not installing the C clip fully. Easy to do--the groove on the shaft is quite thin, and the C clip is difficult to slide along the shaft--very tight fit.

Anyway, problem solved, and thanks to all who offered good advice.

A PTO drive shaft out-of-phase will cause shaking too.

Dry, sticking U-joints may cause vibration too. And the steep the angles involved in the driveline the more they are asked to perform.

If possible pull the PTO shaft halves apart and turn them to the next position and reinstall and see what happens.

My CUT has a power top link which can allow some crazy angles. Especially on my power rake, if I turn it to one side it vibrates worse than the other.

DUY or send it out? To get the right seals and replace them will take you a whole day. But for another couple of hours you could do the other three cylinders too.

If that last one is correct for YOUR part of the world then stick with it. Here we would want "UP" in it.

FYI, I was told years ago in sales or speaking you must keep people interested. So I learned to spell differently for people like to to pay attention. ;)

I have no issue with posting to old threads, per se, but it does get pretty funny (and old fast) when folks start answering 4 year old questions and a dispute erupts over the advice given.

I could see how an old thread could be very useful information.

Check the 3pth speed control, usually a knob under the seat that turns. If it gets turned all the way in it shuts the flow off completely.

If that's not the case then check that the lever hasn't come loose and that the control arm is actually turning the part that goes through the differential/transmission housing.

KT; I don't like to use my "Good" blades, (JD hi lift) for the walnuts, sticks, whatever else endes up on the lawn after winter, so I put the Gator's on and kinda have a good time seeing how far I can shoot the walnuts, etc. out of the deck. Frank.

Once concrete spalls it continues until it turns to gravel. The spalling was likely caused by the concrete setting up while it was "hot" from the truck, and they added water to slow the curing which caused microscopic cracks and eventual disintegration.

If it's uneven or sinking, I'd have "concrete jacked" or "mud jacked" which uses high-pressure mortar or cement, or urethane foam injected through silver-dollar-size holes from the top. It's very effective and about 1/4 - 1/3 the cost of R&R.

If it were me I'd chip off the still-remaining cracked areas (I suggest a high-blow per minute pneumatic hand- held chipper hammer or even a pneumatic welding slag remover--the vibrating wire-rod type), power wash all the fines and dust off, before it dries use muratic(sp) acid full-strength and power wash immediately. Rinse it two or three times, and let it dry.

Find a commercial floor covering supplier and get some self-leveling compound mix in a bag (fairly expensive at $40 a bag), mix it up and resurface the floor. I'm not sure if it's cementious or a polymer.

At this point you could paint the floor with a commercial floor paint (talk to your contacts at the Big-3 and see what their plant maint. guys use).

Or,

Go online, or go to Home Depot/Lowes and buy their 2-part epoxy floor coating. I've seen some really nice garage floors done with commercial, multi-colored epoxy color chips that get sprinkled on the base coat and hide multitude of surface defects including cracks. One guy had it put down 1/4" thick and up along the concrete baseboard block to create a waterproof cash wash bay at home.

Fluids were full. I have checked all shafts and bearing thru the rear end. It will be back together in a week with the new style PTO and I will post the results. Thanks for the help.

Follow the brake pedla lingaeand ther you will find the swicth. It may be out of adjustment, have a bad or loose connection, or a bad switch.

The seat swicth is doing its job when you leave the seat. You could use a bungy strap to hold the seat down, or like I do with my skid steer, install a toggle switch in the seat circuit that makes the system think you're still in the seat. My buddy does a similar thing with his skid steer seat switch, only he disconnected it and uses a short jumper in the connector to take the place of the switch. If your New Holland is anything like my TC33D, LOL eventually you won't even need a seat switch since the wiring and safety module usually go bad in no time. Mine went bad after less than 100 hours.

Following your instructions I watched the shaft as I moved the speed control forward and back with the tractor not running. I need to load some haqy so I started the tractor with the PTO engaged. It worked so It sounds like you hit the nail on the head. the roll pin was the problem. Thank you for all your help.

The PTO is strictly mechanical, no "valve". I suspect you're looking at the wrong page, possibly the rear hydraulic lift. The PTO mechanisms are under that sump, internal to the rear differential housing.

Bob, since there was nothing coming out the overflow tube everything was probably working right. Sounds like a bad air filter clogged up your intake passage and it may take awhile to get it clear. Typically, run on after you shut it off, is needle and seat or elevated rpm at idle, but you probably have some unburned residue in there, caused by the rich condition, that will clean out with use.
