Yes I meant a Kubota. I will most likely be doing some lanscaping with it too. The yard is surrounded by trees and the occasional one may blow down or have to be taken out, so I am leaning toward the Kubota with its 4WD. Snow down there is very heavy so a snow blower and blade are also in the works

I had a poplar tree in the yard up in Alberta. Had to take it out as it was infested with bugs. Left a black satin on every thing under the tree. I went to the local hardware store and bought a powder called Stump Rot. I mixed the powder in an old milk jug. Drilled holes (about 3/8")in the stump with a cordless. Filled the holes with the mix and left for 2 weeks. refilled the holes and left for the season. in the fall I pulled the stump out with the truck. Te truck didn't even feel the weight because the roots were so rotten.

I'm not sure why you would roll anything right now with it being wet. And even if you did roll it, it will be destroyed the next time they walk there. Let it dry.

LOL I'm south of Detroit. And I'm a contractor. It was 70 out last week and I got two calls to move about 500 yards of dirt. One guy wanted topsoil spread and grass planted! WET, snow-soaked and nearly frozen topsoil--aka MUD?

Neither took into consideration that just because it's "nice out" doesn't mean it's a good idea or even practicable. The ground typically around here cannot be worked--- in a satisfactory way---until mid-May. Last March I spread 200 yards of "mud" and it still had ice crystals in it.

We usually are in or near a deep freeze until at least April--with 4" new snow on or about Easter day. In fact June 3, 2003 we had snow flurries!

I'd leave it alone. Hoof prints in soft ground pose no more a hazard that rolling the ground. In fact rolling the ground could give the horsees a false sense of ground stability since evreything is covered. If it's still hoofed-up as it were at least they know where NOT to step.

My neighbor has horses and had the same issue all year 'round. I trenched 600 feet to the creek and laid 4" perforated pipe for him. He hasn't a problem since.

I see that is an old post but whatever it maybe halps to someone.Belarus electrical instalations are 12V.The thing about 2 batteries is that each of them is 6V and they are in serial==> 6+6=12V,nomaly.This combination is more durable,it gives higher currency and batteries live longer.If you have two 12 V batteries check connection.It is normal for voltage to drop under 12V when you turn on starter.Check all cables,starter bearings, brushes and batteries.Batteries should be >100Ah,should have enough electrolite and should be charged to full capacity because starter,particulary on that engine,drains a lot of current.

As i see most of you mechanics didnt even see 250's engine.
It's quiet possible one of simplest diesel engines.About valve cover - it has two bolts with copper ring(gasket) under each bolt.If cover is removed carefuly,cover gasket will be reusable.The head has 4 bolts and no gasket.Only thing you can see by removing valve cover is if valves are stucked in open position.Best way to rotate the engine is by using a rod on the bolt in front of engine.the one that holds main pulley.It has even markings to determine motor position.

Tell me the bolt size and what's stamped on the head and I'll give you the torque.

The size in millimeters can be the diameter at the threads or the hex width (the distance from one shoulder to the opposite one). A number on the head, likely a 7 or 11, indicates the metal grade.

I think there is a fuse between the battery and starter, or starter and ignition. Does anyone know where this is located? If so, please provide part number.<br>

Bought it from Northern Tool. We own a horse farm outside of Locust Grove, Oklahoma. The tractor is used there. Note, if I had the tractor shipped to SC, I would have had to pay an enormous sales tax on $31,000.00 because Northern has a store here. They have no stores in Oklahoma, therefore I paid no sales tax on the unit. The fee is based on where it's shipped not where it's bought. If needed, I would have had the tractor shipped to a tax free area and have it trucked by an independent or haul it myself to my place. It's legal. It's worth checking on!<br>

The Farmall was used on young tobacco and young corn. The tractor was retired when my dad took sick 10 years ago. He has since passed on. When I get the chance, it'll be totally restored. It's a very rare model as it was one of the few Farmalls that were built during WW2. It has a rare exhauest lift as hydraulic oil was scarce during the war and IH designed this unusual lift and IH couldn't get red paint at that time as the government took possession of all of it for the war effort. The closest color match they came up with made the tractor look pink. Painted in it's original color, it's among the rarest Farmalls. It's been red for years as dad hated the color and as soon as red was available, he repainted it. were trying to find the original paint code.

Generally speaking, if a machine is made for a particular hitch category eg., 0,1,2,3 then it SHOULD work. Somewhere I read it takes x-amount of HP per foot for certain types of equipment. Some types of equipment have different power requirements--like a flail mower, I'm told, uses 30% more power compared to the same width finish mower.

If you have doubts, mount the tiller and give it shot. If I had to guesstimate, it's 3-5 HP per foot.

Dave is correct. My NT254 was delivered right to my doorstep last July. They started it up and drove it off the flatbed for me.

I have an NT254 purchased last July. I love it! At temperatures in the 70s I still had to use glow plugs for 10 seconds or so. Down below 40 I needed at least 30 seconds on the glow plugs and even then had to try 2 or 3 times. In sub-freezing temperatures it doesn't stand a chance without a block heater. I do not use throttle or compression release though, maybe I should. Just wanted to let you know that they are hard to start but that is normal.

A block heater on a cold country diesel is always a good idea, especially if the tractor will live outside.

Back in Alaska we used the can type coolant heaters that operated like a percolator with good success. They aren't very expensive and can warm a small engine up in an hour or two, even at 40 below.

I would have to take another look at my tractor to see is they would work as they are normally attached to the return hose from the car or cab heater. Anyway, check the link below for some options.

I know it gets real cold in Montana, so in your circumstance I would also opt for a good synthetic engine oil and Deere Low-Vis hydraulic fluid in the sump.

I purchased a northerntool generator, 10K surge, 8KW continuous, 13hp honda engine a few years ago. It runs great. It is electric start and has a pull start backup. I have not been able to start it with pull start. So I make sure my battery is always in good condition.
