Don't want my services, eh?

Nope, can't afford. Have a local company who will move the dirt for $3 per yard. They can move more than 25 yards an hour. That price was when diesel was still high so they may be down 25 to 50 cents by now per yard.

My son in law has told me today he wants to go with dump trailer. He was the one who wanted to hire the $3 per yard people and or rent dozier to push it. He said he would buy the trailer and since moving the dirt it is long term for him, makes sense.

Wow, I guess no one can be correct here except... Anyway back to the topic at hand. I've posted images here via Photobucket link for those who want to see how I did my, not - engineered by John Deere hydraulic hookup for for my 3 point back hoe. My big fear getting into this, as my tractor was made in Japan was that the pipe fittings could be metric, however everything was US pipe thread and standard hydraulic fittings. <br>
Notice my tractor is still in one piece in spite of the tremendous loading from my 12 inch BH bucket ;).

I don't recall the details but you might want to search the archives of this site for postings about NH models that were problematic when new, and the factory and selling dealer were not helpful.

If these are big one time stumps, you will need a tractor/ backhoe bigger than will be handy for the reat of your dutys. Perhaps hire the stumps done if they are big ones then buy a tractor in the 30-35 HP range for your daily needs. You may not even need a backhoe then, but a front end loader and a box blade will be your best investments far as attachments for almost daily use. Mowers, tillers, on and on your attachment list will grow as you need them. Enjoy your day. Frank.

Good review. They've come a ways since the Pony, and the Genesis is doing to Lexus what Lexus did to Mercedes.

I'm surprised that Hertz offers foreign. I was puzzled by a news report that Ford (I think) announced it was giving up catering to the "fleet market" and maybe there's a connection.

TC I bought a Bro-Tek ripper tooth and thumb for my BX24.I live in an area with alot of buckt thorn. Roots are small to four inches in diameter.The tooth will peel the root out without ripping the ground up.I'll use both tools to pull the root and trees out toghter.Also buy or make a skid plate for BX to protect your fan blade.

I would try sometype of crusher run top soil blend. I would not be afraid to reuse millings that have sat for a year the asphalt has not disappeared it still there. The key is to regrind them or break up the chunks as much as possible. I would also try to break up the old drive as much as possible.

Just as a reference I have about 70,000 tons of millings in our yard. We crush them and add them back to asphalt. Our lab tests them often we have yet to lose any asphalt content unless we fail to keep them clean. Some piles are 25,000 tons plus and have been there for 6 years.

I would still recommend using kero or fuel oil to rerelease the ac.

My buddy just had $20,000 in new Pella windows installed. Long story short--he's suing them since he can't close or open them without the frames buckling and not sealing. Factory reps and engineers overide each other's decisions and they decided they aren't doing a thing about it.

Dennis, my little 6kw genset at the lake is a brush-type generator head.

Last time I noticed it had well over 1,000 hours on it. I've only ever replaced the spark plugs and oil, I've never touched the generator head itself.

Unfortunately this seems to be a weak spot on the R400's. I haven't gotten into it in great detail since I managed to fix mine by changing the hydraulic intake filter (a screen in the tank) and changing out all of the hydraulic fluid. I understand that it has to do with the charging pump to the main pump and parts can be a problem.

I have a problem of my own. I bought an R400 over the internet (sight unseen, pictures only, trusted a dealer, bad idea). It came with the front bucket removed and a bobcat type bucket installed on a home made quick attach. Whoever made the quick attach didn't know what they were doing and screwed up the geometry of the lift system. I sure would appreciate it if someone would contact me or tell me the distances from the lower hinge pin to the upper hinge pin on the factory bucket and any offsett from the vertical. It would also help to know the distance from pin to pin (centerline?) for the linkage from the tilt arm to the bucket assembly. Can anyone help

Let me add: for your hills and snow work, insist on 4WD. Decide the tire tread: "ag" for somewhat better traction, "turf" for mowing. I wouldn't consider any engine other than diesel. Find out where to get road-tax-free fuel. If you have cold winters, include a block heater.

Focus on attachments. Except for towing, tractors don't do any work; they just transport the attachments for you, usually rear-mounted. You can get them any time but the more you include at the outset the better the deal. The dealer can advise you.

Yes, require that it takes "Category 1" rear attachments. (Many subcompacts do, as opposed to garden tractors that take the tiny "Category 0" ones.)

A rear blade won't move earth like a box-blade, but it can smooth out loose soil, it moves snow, and costs little.

The exception to getting attachments later is the front loader (costly but versatile). You want that attachment to already be on the machine before you accept it.

Include in the deal a thorough session on safely operating and maintaining everything, delivery, one 1-hour service call, and a few years' worth of expendables like filters.

Last comment on your first tractor. A car has a design life of 10-15 years. With a tractor it's closer to 50, and it holds its value. So choose right, and take care of it.
