Good point about the heater and warmer. I'm so concerned about keeping my rad clear that it never occured to me to block it, but I'll give it a try, at least until global warming becomes a reality.

Thanks for all the info - this is a great site! We didn't get the snowblower yet, mainly because we were hoping that the blade and loader will do the job for the rest of the winter. We got an 8' blade on the front and a rear blade for tight spaces. I don't think I mentioned that we also plow for our only neighbor in the area (10 lots of 35+ acres and our larger plot) and the main road, so it's about 3 miles every snow plus clearing out a front entrance with gate and keypad. The dozer was just here and cleared us out quite a bit, but it sure does tear things up! Last year it completely tore out the key pad because it was covered in 4 ft of snow, and this time it tore up the kids' new sandbox despite specific instruction about where not to plow. I think we'll save money on all the repairs, in addition to the cost of the dozer!

What is the Murf solution for the front loader with the pipe and bolts? I'm always happy to try homemade solutions rather than spending more money - SJ

Of course you want to see what others are saying about your dad. Remember that the purpose of this discussion is not to bash him or his memory. It is to keep us from suffering a similar fate. We didn't know your dad but we know that he made a mistake. Stuff happens really fast on heavy equipment and safety is or should be in the back of our minds all the time. Discussing someone else's mistakes will bring us greater awareness and could quite possibly save one of us in the future. <br>

Mark and Murf, thanks for the pointer to the Nokian tires. This morning we put a set of studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 tires on the wife's Subaru. I can see why those tires work so well - they are siped to the max and have twice as many studs as the Toyo M55s I bought for the truck. They also cost a pretty penny - $300/tire installed for tiny Subaru tires. Yowsa. But driving home on an ice packed road the tires gave a great feeling of confidence.

It may not be so much adjustment as it is needing some lubrication. Some good penetrating oil on the shafts and linkage should do it. New Holland isn't good about using bushings and bearing on linkages and shafts; instead they use metal-to-metal joints which tend to wear and rust. My TC33D is prone to does that. I just instintively press the go pedal backward after stopping.

Here in Illinois it's illegal to feed the deer, other than food plots.(alfalfa, clover, etc.) CWD is spread by deer in close contact like what happens when they all go to the same feed spot. But also, and just as important, in general you do the deer a disservice by feeding them. At least that's what our DNR says around here. If they get used to the food supply, they don't look for others. Then if you stop, they don't know where to go. Also, more and more deer will find your food, and you will have to put out more and more food to keep up. From everything I've read, and as cruel as it sounds, your best off leaving nature to itself. Survival of the fittest. The land will support the amount of deer that is right.

I had trouble with mine on my NH1530. It would not engage, or then it would stick.

I had the puck replaced and it now has worked normally ever since.

Many things could be wrong, here are a few. Is the belt guard/brace between the motor and transaxle in place and secured properly with 2 bolts in the motor and 1 thru bolt in the transaxle? The bolts in the motor break off alot which lets the motor and transaxle get closer together on acceleration, thus making the belt looser. I've also seen this condition bend the frame slightly which leaves the belt loose all the time. Your primary clutch spyder could have worn rollers. After a time, use will wear large flat spots in the rollers and cause the clutch to up shift late causing a power loss.( kinda like taking off in second gear )This condition also robs engine power. Are the buttons, on the driven clutch that rest on the helix, all there and functional? A missing button or two could cause the driven clutch to bind and rob engine power. Lots of times a new belt will help you take off in a lower gear simply because it is wider and catches the clutch sheaves quicker and starts the forward motion at a lower belt/clutch diameter ratio. An old belt could look as wide as a new one but they wear on the inside edge first, turn them inside out and compare. A good way to tell if you need a new belt is if, when you are coasting down a hill and the clutches unload while you are still moving at a good speed the belt is getting narrow and could use a new one. The Gator should be almost stopped before the clutches unload. In summary you need that brace between the motor and transaxle. If it's not there and you get one and it doesn't fit you have a bent frame. Good luck.

Murf, would you be talking about Slip Plate? Do you do the inside of the blower housing or just the chute? In a earlier thread you mentioned the proper clearance to look for between the fan and blower housing, as I can't find it would you mention it again?<br>

Most likely JD doesn't make this this themselves. SOme othe better known OEM's are FCC, Woods, Bush Hog. I would look up their websites for comparisons.

I don't know any manufacturer who puts the Customer first as far as ease of servicing; sometimes that is a marketing ploy to move product and in some cases at a higher cost. If you think about it "servicing" a backhoe is pretty sraight-forward and not rocket science.

Design changes are sometimes the result of commodity price fluxuations like steel which has gone up sharply. And labor costs figure into too. Designs may have chanaged to reduce maufacturing steps involved to make them simpler.

And it could be JD changed suppliers, a patent expired, a patent was licensed, or whatever reason.

Just my observations.

There wouldn't be enough room for a taller tire under the cargo box to be of much help. My XUV will run on the plus side of thirty, and to me that is plenty fast. As EW eluded to they weren't meant to be a speed wagon, but more of a plow horse type machine. I don't know about other insurance carriers but our carrier still considers them a farm machine not a recreational machine because of their restricted speed ability, so no special insurance is required. Frank.

Good advice on the RPMs. And you're right, I don't really know for sure how it was cared for for the 1st 1000 hrs. I know there is an injector test in the manual. I should be able to remove them myself and find a tractor service shop that can test them. So most opinion is running towards injectors and not pump, huh? I was really dreading messing with the injection pump.

I'm not sure in the case of Komatsu products, but in many cases the designation following the model number.......in this case "-3"....could simply mean that your particular D20A tractor was equipped with a special track, attachment, auxiliary winch, etc.

SSB Tractor offers manuals for many Komatsu bulldozers. I found several manuals for the D20A bulldozer, but none for the "-3" model.

It's possible that someone at SSB Tractor could help you locate the manual for your tractor. Try the following link.
Select "Komatsu" in the tractor manuals list. Do not type in your particular model number. Instead, scroll through the entire list of available Komatsu manuals. You'll see several manuals available for the D20A. Some of the manuals are serial number specific. You should have your serial number available when chatting with the people at SSB Tractor.

Even during outages we have light, TV, internet, pinball machines, cold and hot food, and, of course, coffee. But the only heat sources are space heaters and the fireplace (since the generator isn't big enough to start the heat pump). So the house does get a bit cold, and it's a pain to get up every few hours to feed the fireplace. I have been wanting to put gas fired radiant floor heat on the main floor for years now. All it takes is time and money. Maybe next year ;)
