I am new to the tractor world I just got my first tractor Bx25 upon receipt I receive no operating manuals (I was told that they are not published yet from my dealer) I want to know if that's true with all that I have read on the BX25 there is no mentioned of this PLEASE LET ME KNOW I bought Dec. 12-08

There's a price to pay for living in the woods though. Power was out from about 5pm on the 24th until 10am on Christmas day, then it went out Christmas evening for another 10-12 hours, then it went out again a day later for ~12 hours. Plus another half dozen 1-2 hour long outages over the last two weeks.<br>

I felt bad for all the linemen working over the holidays - double time is not enough for what those guys do.<br>

Like I said I am not a diesel mechanic or gas for that matter. But Murf using your figures: 1/4 oz per shut down being a large amount (my understanding). So he runs it 92 hours per year but less say only one hour per use so 92 shutdowns. That would be 23 ounces per year, or about 2/3 of a quart. To get a "geyser" it would have to build faster than this or else long long time between oil checks. As EW goes, just saying here.

But if all three injectors are leaking a 1/4 ounce per shutdown and it is 92 shutdowns per year, you would be up to just over 2 quarts per year. Might buy that but still long long time between oil level checks. It does seem he was fortunate that he did not have any run away with that much fuel in his oil.

Joel, there's a few simple tricks that will mean a LOT less instances of the chute plugging up.

First and foremost, the inside of the chute itself. Wherever possible keep it as smooth as possible and well painted. A couple of times a season use a friction modifier (read: greasy stuff) like that sold for coating the liners of a combine. It satays in place well and is slipperier than you could believe.

Second, try to keep the chute free of ice. A magnetic block heater will help a lot. Even a small layer of ice will cause the snow to start sticking in place.

Finally, try to keep the blower running at as fast a speed as possible. As the blower slows down, the speed of the material slows down too, this gives it a better chance of clogging up the chute.

We have to clear 100's of miles of sidewalks, wet snow and slush is a constant problem for us too.

Adamshatch,

A few quick questions........

1. Is there a lot of landscaping to accomplish with the new house? Maybe the house was built a few years ago, and therefore all of the major landscaping projects have already been finished?

2. Will you be finish-mowing the entire 5 acres, or will the majority of it be rough-cut with a rotary mower?

3. Do you have a lot of trees to mow around, or a large number of obstacles to maneuver around in the yard, such as rock gardens, retaining walls, flower gardens, water features, etc?

4. What type of driveway maintenance will you be doing? Any snow removal?

All of these things come into question when deciding what machine is best suited to handle the greatest majority of the chores.

I feel you should be buying an M-series for some reasons and a L for others. The grand L has a nice front snow blower from the factory. You could still use a M-series with a Erskine front mount but beware of the rear PTO drive and fear of damage to it from the contours of the property.

A rear mount blower could still leave the loader on but could be hard on the operator's neck and back, to blow the snow away means you don't have to move it again!

The M-series will handle anything you have for field work with ease.

Joel, I've soldered electronics for forty years but didn't think about soldering this stuff. All the terminals are aluminum! I'll have to replace the switches and terminal blocks with good ones that have tinned copper. A *good* crimp terminal is as good or better than a soldered connection. They don't have the wire fatigue issues at the solder joint, they are oxygen free and corrosion resistant and have been FAA approved for many years. The problem is that it's difficult for consumers to buy the good stuff. A crimp tool that is guaranteed to crimp to specification costs ~$200. I will reconsider soldering with heat shrink as a strain relief.

Murf, you're right, once this panel is rebuilt it's getting dessicant, a gasket around the panel, and sealer in all other openings. The panel is welded to the genset skid so it's a bit hard to just put it in a plastic box.

But I'm still gonna buy the best switches I can find.

Reminds me of the oil pressure "gauge" on my Ford Ranger. The pressure switch was not analog, it was digital. When pressure was applied it closed a circuit causing the "gauge" needle to point to the green range. What a joke.

Adding the mid-PTO is a fairly very simple task. It's about the same as adding a PTO output to a pickup's manual transmission.

There's a cover plate on the bottom of your tractor. That plate has to be removed. (The oil must be drained first)

The PTO kit comes with a gasket that goes in place of the cover plate and gasket you removed.

The hardest part is to ensure that you adjust for the proper backlash between the gears. This is accomplished with shims and a dial indicator. You don't want the meshing gears too tight, or it will cause metal wear and noise. You don't want the gears too far apart, as this will cause the meshing gears to slap and wear out rapidly.

The manufacturer should provide you with a spec sheet to follow. Adjust the gear mesh, using the shims provided, until the backlash in the gears is measured to fall within the specified range. (For example = .003"-.006")

In most cases you'll need a dial indicator, as well as a mounting system to hold the dial indicator in place while you take the measurements. Don't be surprised if you find that you'll have to remove and re-install the mid-PTO assembly several times, until you get the proper shims in place.

Once your backlash measurement falls within the specified range, you can then replace the oil.

Your tractor may be different. Not all manufactures provide shims. You may not need them at all. Every manufacturer provides its own spec sheets and installation instructions.

Google "Farm Tires" for lots of sources if you can mount them yourself. Otherwise there should be local farm tire dealers listed in your yellow pages. Happy New year. Frank.

Many manufacturers today run the samekeys for groups of tractors. Years ago they would use the same key for all of them!

Murf, the short is the tractor is running fine now. At first the filter was empty. Rolled it over no fuel yet. Removed both lines ...bone dry. Then I thought frozen line?I openned the fuel tank cap to free a possible air lock? When I openned the cap I could not see the fuel even though my gauge read 105% full. I dumped 1/2 of a 5 gallon can of fuel an the tank overflowed. Now as I sit back and think about this you were right. I maybe was not patient enough and the fuel was on it's way through the line to the filter. Maybe the new fuel mixed with the older fuel an free'd up the ice(not likely). Cranked and within 10 seconds all was fine. Merry Xmas and thanks for your support...it gave me a little more confidence.The Kubota manuel sure is vague on this issue. I guess they like the service bucks??

The tires are the factory optional size, the base tire is 20mm narrower. Maybe the small size would work but it would be tight.

The dealer didn't have any cable chains in this size so I was stuck. Next year I'll try a set.
