About the only way without doing a major frame rebuild would be with bigger wheels, but I don't think there is enough clearance to make that worthwhile. Someone was asking about converting a Gator of your series to four wheel independent suspension here a while back, perhaps if they got that done they could offer some ideas.

my sizes is front 23x8.50x12 center hole is 4 1/2", lug nuts center to center across is 6", side by side is 3" rear is 13.6x16 , center hole 5 1/4" ,lug nuts center to center across 6 3/4" ,side by side 3 3/8", if the mesurements match I would be interested in looking at them if you could give me a price. or send me pics leeb535@aol.com

take it you have already looked into adjusting the clutch and it will not develop proper clamping force.

Trent, Chief asked this question and I did not see any reply to it. I would be sure there all is adjusted properly and no linkage binding or anything else preventing the clutch to fully release before spending any such amount of money or work.

A few years back my father in law ended up with his gas tractor in the pond. Pride only damage done to anyone and the engine due to how low the electrical system was stopped before it sucked water. But the fuel tank was underwater for a few hours. He ended up replacing that with a plastic tank sold as replacement for a 62 Ford tractor. It fit fine. So you may find a plastic one for your JD. But the reason he gave for the tank change made no sense, said he had to do it to get ride of the water. He had to meant the rust. I really would not spend much time or effort to try and clean it depending on what you can find in a new tank. Sometimes it is easy to spend more to patch than to replace.

I have a Gator 4X6 which recently developed a condition where it has no power under load such as going up a hill. I raised the dump box while driving and it appears that the clutch is not expanding whne I apply the gas. When the Gator is in nuetral and I apply the gas it expands like it should? the manual says to check the fuel filter and sparkplug? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Another semi-related website posting I have been following with GREAT interest and enjoyment on living off the grid might interest some of you as well. I have certainly enjoyed it and learned a LOT from reading it. I think Lisa could write a book on their experience. Her thread certainly has a large and interested following. I hope to be able to get started on a similar project in the near future. A forewarning that you will have some SERIOUS catch up reading to do and high speed internet is a big plus for all the pictures. DEFINITELY WELL worth the read in my opinion. Enjoy!

Taking Murf's push- pull-starting theme one step further...you might find the one rear wheel will skid or slip. If it does, I would put it in a high gear and use the clutch until it gets up to speed then let it out. A low gear will really cause the rear wheel(s) to skid due to engine compression..

Doug, check the tractor wrecking yards, and even flea-bay, they often have FEL's off wrecked or dead tractors for cheap.

All you really need is the FEL off a machine that is a similar as yours, past that the mounts will be similar but not exact, and that part of it can be done by merely bolting in replacement mounting bosses in a lot of cases.

Man, that was quick. Thanks for the responses. Too dark out now, but I'll take pics asap. The Gator I have is a 2005 4X4 HPX. What kwschumm says about the evaporative control device sounds like what the mechanic I talked to said. It definitely wasn't an EGR valve. Again THANKS.

Stupeg; A 4 X 24 cylinder with a 2 in. shaft will take about seven seconds to extend and about five to retract using your 11 GPM pump on the rear shaft. If you run your tractor at half throttle on the front shaft might give you 18 - 20 GPM you would take those times to about half, at full throttle it would become pretty wild and pretty unsafe.

Just moved and realize I may need a compact tractor. I'm looking at the MF 2310 for all around use. Mowing, digging, etc. I'm looking now for the snow season. I have a long driveway and would like to snow blow it with the attachment. My concerns is. Will it have enough power, torque to for the wet snow, sleet, slush, etc? Is this a good tractor for the job? MF is down the road from where I live. Thoughts?

Thanks! I did manage to negotiate the maze and found the PDF that had all of the tire/rim information. I determined that for my model of tractor I need the 634-3101 part (23 x 6.00 x 12).

I went to the CC order page and entered the part number and up popped "634-3101: WHL ASM:12.0 X 5.0", note the 12.0x5.0. So, clearly there is a mis-match somewhere between the catalog and the ordering system. The price is very good, $68.08 each, so no worries there.

I guess I will need to call them and confirm that it really is a 6x12 and not a 5x12, because I sure do not want to pay shipping to Hawai'i for the wrong part.

The seller emailed me, and described the color wires to which prongs. He asked if I had a plug, and I now realize there once was a plug holding all these wires in a bundle. That would have kept this confusion to a minimum.
I have a tech manual on its way, so maybe It'll have schem's for the wires.

Ken and Murph, thanks for the reply. I was searching the internet after posting this and that was all I could come up with too, that using the wrong bulbs could shorten the life of the ballast or bulb. It just seemed puzzling to me that the same manufacturer would go from either/or to just plain T-12's. As I said, it was just by chance I noticed they now called for only T-12's. The design of the fixture has changed somewhat so, as you said Ken, someone else may be making the fixtures for them. From what I've read though, T-8's are replacing the T-12's. Also, like you said Murph, the fixtures (In this case) only cost $8+ dollars so they are throw aways. Thanks again for the input, Steve.
