Another option is to install a 12 volt conversion kit. You add a 12 volt starter and alternator along with some minor wiring changes to cconvert ot a "normal" 12 volt system. Around $600.00 from ytmag.com. http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/store/parts/convcat.htm. I'll see if I can find a schematic for you.

I'm sure there are other places to go, but I know for a fact that the good folks at Coleman Equipment can help.

Contact Mary in the parts department. She'll gladly e-mail you a picture of the parts breakdown. The photo will contain a complete breakdown of the assembly in question. You will then be able to determine which parts are missing, as well as how to reassemble the components.

Once you determine what's missing, you can use the information provided to order the proper part, as well as use the proper terminology when identifying those parts.

Well so far I love the diesel power and am pleased with the purchase.My fuel consumption went from 7+ gal. to 3to3-1/2 gal.I have found the controls and feel of the Steiner 430 machine is all together different than the 410-415.The 430 is a completely different chassis and is heavier than the 415,but lighter than the 4200 Ventrac.Mast-Lepley is a top notch facility,and was a pleasure to deal with,I will recommend them to anyone,and will discourage anyone from Valley Ventrac.

The down 'n' dirty way to tell is to put a digital voltmeter on the battery and cycle the glow plugs.

The draw will be very visible on the battery voltage as the coils warm up.

If it's not the safety switch (short it with a jumper to test), go over the starting-circuit wires and connectors. Meanwhile, to start, jump between the battery positive and the solenoid switch terminal.

Thanks for the fine suggestions, now if the monsoon stops I may be able to continue the job with better ammo. That is if I get the chimney cleaned and the well holding tank whose bladder burst done first. :(

I've not heard of the problem but my first attempt would be to pick a spot and disconnect the linkage and check for lever movement on both sides of where you heave dissconnected the linkage.

Ask the pros as they can tell you why what you have already done is impossible or as has been said, will those who say it can not be done get out of the way of those getting it done. OK my rant..I know I have raised 3 pth both ways on more than one tractor, with starter most often just normal starting the engine not on purpose. Very much realize the amount of fluid is way more on FEL and worn pumps and such really could make it impossible.

EW, point taken on having tractor in proper gear for direction you are pulling it, but I think most here know which direction they are going and are honest about it unlike many running for office. :) kt
