I've had a few times where I have had to jump a starter directly albeit unsucessfully; can't seem to get enough amps through the jumper cables.

Like Frank, I was raised that as soon as you get the jumped car started you immediately remove the cables to prevent blowing the regulator. My grandpa owned some car repair shops and that was largely who told us that. Was grandpa misled... dunno. I do recall having a 1971 GM car taht I gave a jump to on sub-zero day. His car strated right up and he didn't remove the cables right away. The next day my altenator wasn't cahrging. Coincidence? Not sure.

Here's another thing I was raised with and have seen touted in owner and service manuals and even on TV "Ask the Shell Answer Man"---never allow to cars when jump starting to touch metal-to-metal (metal bumper-to-metal bumper) otherwise both cars' batteries will blow up. Frank will tell you I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but can anyone explain this?

Congratulations on the new toy! I can do the fast turn without digging up the lawn but making a more gradual turn at a slower speed is what I prefer, not in that much of a neck breaking hurry. You may find that works for you too.

I have a New Holland TC 33D. I have the turf tires on it and I have no problem on the grass or in the snow, but, if I was getting new tires I'd go the route Mark did with the radials. The problem I do have is that with the FEL on and weight in the bucket, the front tires tend to flatten out, especially if I don't have my back blade on. If I remember correctly from an earlier post by Mark on this, the radials had a stiffer sidewall and less prone to do that. Mark, correct me if I'm wrong. Steve

That's a good point. We decided against that because we'd like to turn that hill into flat terraces that can be used. Because the house is so tall I need to occasionally get a boom lift in there (the main reason for construction overkill) and my wife would like a small greenhouse built on one one of the terraces.

Sam, Use to have a Troy Bilt with bedder sweep also. I would think you could do the same with tractor tiller. Look for a old single row cultivator for parts. You will need to mount it to the tiller. Not to the sheet metal but the 3 pth mount.

The bed width and tiller width will not work out just right so you may have to make all right or left when tilling and making the beds. At same time not thinking of any reason it would hurt to run the tiller back over the bed you just made as you will be rebedding it. If you have your spacing set correctly you should place your front tire in the furrow you just made to keep your spacing correct.

With driving as slow as you are, you probably will need an aggressive bedding plow and the setting on it also as you will not have speed to help move the dirt. Just play with it. There are bedding sweeps for use with cultivator much like those with the Troy Bilt. If they don't move enough dirt then you may have to add on metal to make the sides of the sweep taller. If you want a flatter top bed than this gives you, placing a chain to drap across the top may do it.

Sam, you will see many operations hitch together in the large farms, in my part of the world we have small fields and do a lot of raised bed growing. If you are using the sweeps right behind the tires as I think you will, there should be no problem with the tiller being one pass and the bedding another one. You are not planting where the tire just ran and the sweep is breaking it up any how. kt

Were you staying at a Hotel or Motel? It happened to me. I was making a trip to pick up some stone I got from a friend. The wife and I stayed at a Days Inn. We unhooked the trailer to do some sightseeing and when we got back the trailer was gone. Long Story short, an agressive towing company towed it away as being illegally parked. The Motel people did not even know about it until a week later when they got the storage bill.

Also, Keep an eye on e-bay. There is more stolen goods on there than you can shake a stick at.

I'm not totally new to this since I own a couple of Ford N tractors that I maintain myself (can't have too many tractors). I should be able to follow your advice with no problem. I'm just not used to dealing with an alternator with a built in voltage regulator such as the 'bota has. Plus, the 'bota has been trouble free until now. I'll try to track the gremlin down before I give up.

If your property is lumpy/rocky the BX will be a rough ride due to the small tires.

Other than that, the BX is a very capable machine.

I don't own a Hinomoto but I'd suggest that you take off the tractor a part that has been up under somewhere protected from the sun and go to a DuPont or PPG paint supply and have them shoot it on the color computer.

Mario; I assume you are asking about the engine oil. If so, yes do change it, 60 hours isn't much but is still enough for acids, water, etc. to accumulate in the oil over a year's time. Follow your owners manual to the letter far as oil type and filters, don't scrimp with cheap oil or filters. Frank.

Tractor has 75 hours and appears to have light use. Prior owner traded in for a cab tractor. Dealer is asking $22500. I will clip(6ft bush hog) and use a cultivator/disc for deer fields. Is this price right and is this enough tractor to handle my needs?

There are a number of different sizes of jump starters.

I have had a 450A/800A peak unit for about 10 years that still works good. It was a good investment for $39.95. Several times it didn't have enough power to start my truck and a couple of cars with real dead batteries. I've also used it to assist my battery on the dump trailer when its getting weak and it really does the job on lawn tractors, etc.

Recently, I purchased another one from Harbor Freight with a 650A/1200A peak for about $59.95. I used it about a dozen times to jump my Lincoln which takes allot of juice until they found out my one year old car battery had a bad cell that lost power when sitting around for a couple of days. This baby works good!!!! Knowing this, I would only recommend purchasing the big one!

To my mind it doesn't make economical sense to get a relatively high HP in a machine that can't fully use it tractionwise. By that I mean, my TC33D has about 28hp (33 gross). It weighs a bit over 3,400 with weights and implement. Under loose footing conditions I can get all 4 tires spinning when pulling a 6' box blade. I mow 3 acres with it and would never consider anything smaller than mine (which I used to at one time) So...for the money which can't be much more than a TC, get the TC.
