In the mid 80's till the early 90's I spent two terms on our local school board, wow what an education!! I could have never served another term and kept my emotions under control. At that time starting salary for a beginning teacher right out of college was if my memory serves me right around 14K. When annual sallary negotations took place we usually settled with a 3-4% across the board incresae. My blood still boils that a young energetic first year teacher trying his or her best would get maybe a 500 dollar raise and some of the older ones would get a 1500-1800 dollar raise. Experence is good and should be rewarded but as in all industrys schools are no different, there were slackers protected by the state teachers union that the local board couldn't touch. The majority of the older ones were still doing their job, but a few knowing we couldn't touch them just coasted out doing next to nothing. The only power a local board had to fire a teacher was on a morals charge, BUT, you better have lots of absolute proof or the district could end up on the bad end with a lawsuit up the wazoo. I have no idea how other state school systems operate but in Iowa the local board has probably a 10 percent control of what happens in the district and the state has the rest. I'd better quit I'm starting to get mad. Frank.

There is something rather odd about the Subaru's built-in alarm system. If the door is unlocked with the key and then opened the alarm goes off. That doesn't happen when the door is unlocked with the remote. So if you use the factory key to unlock the door the horn will honk until the ignition is turned on. The dealer says the only way to fix it is to disable the alarm entirely.

That seems sort of poor to me. Other than that the car has been great. Getting 25-27mpg with mixed city/hwy driving.

My logic (oh-oh) says that the under-surface of mower blades should be horizontal. Various setup instructions (including mine) specify that the FRONT should be one metric smidge LOWER than the rear. Why would that be good?

I have a D275F Shibaura tractor/loader. Didn't get any manuals. Cant figure out some controls, how to get glow plugs on, switch has indicator to left but wont turn there. all symbols in jap. can anyone help?

The need to mow, is that thanks to "FAY"? That depression has sure brought some needed rain to parts of the south. In our state today and I think tomorrow. For those who are not aware how much a tropical depression can wander around you ought to look up FAY path. kt

After 8 times into the shop and two new axles,4 new CV joints and numerous bolts tightned, My Gator was still so bad it was embarassing to drive in public with the snapping noise. John Deere had my Gator more than I did for a whole year with no sucess. At the end two weeks ago they were getting pissy with me for keeping bringing it in because they had bigger things to work on like combines, so I finally fixed the problem and traded the damn thing in for a Bobcat 2200. Good luck with your snapping because JD dosnt have a clue how to fix it and you will have to live with it. My 2 cents worth is it is a poorly designed machine. The final thing they will tell you is just keep driving it until something breaks then we will know what to replace. I was very dissappointed with JD for not stepping up to the plate and taking them back and giving the guys who are having the problem a replacement. We bought two at the same time and they both do the same thing. Now two Bobcats are in their parking spots. Sure would like to hear from some JD reps on this board to try and convince us were not all crazy. Everyone who has this problem is treated like they are the only one it is happening to in the thousands of units they sell. They should read up on the internet about their own products and they can see there are many like this out there. I had to show my own salesman what others have said about it on the net before he even believed me there was a problem. Thanks TP for giving us this site to find out that other people experiance the same thing with our units.

OK, I see them as part no's. 49-50-50. That's a new one on me. I think I'd want to be sure the little fuse cover was in place just for safety's sake with perhaps a piece of red hot wire falling into something combustible. Frank.

Measuring full voltage at a battery and having it fail under load is a very common battery failure mode. Voltage is nearly useless when it comes to seeing if a battery will start an engine, it can only tell if it's charged. A load test is the only viable way to be sure.

Most of our stuff these days is either PTO or hydraulically driven, but we have a few hold-outs that are still belt drive.

Most notably, and the biggest PITA is our tri-plex mowers, they are bullet-proof and will run forever, but the belts are a real source of headaches. They provide drive power for both the chassis, and the 3 cutting reels.

The big problem is the belts are down low and subject to lots of water (dew or rain) and grass clippings. Talk about a recipe for belt slippage!!!

We use belt dressing spray on them VERY regularly!

I don't know about the karma part, nor even the crack or fray (we wear them out before they can get that old) but they certainly have a minimum of slip or squeal with that stuff on them.

Frank nailed it too BTW, sticky as all get out!!!

We've had a beautiful strech of weather, so we been outside a lot too. The Mrs. and I spent nine days repainting a house and rebuilding a screen porch on it. Throw in another series of medical tests for me, the last one was this morning, plus tomatoes up the wazoo to take care of. And if that weren;'t enough I volunteered to build a piece of furniture for the grand prize at our church featival raffle. If I get any more retired I'll have to hire help. Still enjoying every minute of it tho. Frank.

Right now the little tractors are only an indicator of number of posts not quality of posts :)

You were not demoted, I think I changed the number of tractors per message some time ago.

Toyota and Honda are the two brands I like the best, I did not mean to overstate the differences, my experience may be tainted by the dealer in my neighborhood. Your mileage may vary !

Make sure you are using new gas.

Take the air cleaner off and pour 1 tablespoon of fuel into the carb with the plate open.

Try to start, repeat process as needed :)

If you get a bit of a start this way but it dies you know that the electrical is good.

Replace in tank hose and filter.
