I was hauling it on my own trailer. I picked it up in Kansas and stopped on the way back in Branson to give wife & kids a couple days vacation.(bargaining point) I picked it up on Saturday and it was stole Tuesday night. We were leaving Early Wednesday morning to travel home here in Central Louisiana. My homeowners will cover the lose but they depreciated it so much I won't get close to what I paid for it. Much less the implements or trailer. Did you know a tractor lifespan is only 10 years? According to my adjuster. I guess after year 11, values go negative. Anyway, that could be another thread.
We are all heartbroken over this. I am continuing to look for something comparable with what the insurance is giving me. Wish me luck. A$8 padlock is worth it's weight in kubota gold

If you have a back-hoe, the articulating arm is there, just take off the bucket and construct a mount. TSC sells a small 4 ft. FARMCO brush hog for about $700.00. If you look at a commercial unit, you can get ideas how to mount. They usually are driven with a hydraulic motor.

You probably don't have a large enough pump capacity to run that. A gas engine or electric motor driven off a generator set would work. If concerned with the tilt of a gas engine look at how the suspension from a dirt bike works going through degrees of motion. There has to be a way to keep the engine vertical while the deck tilts.

Not much to adjust on the pto clutch. It is activated by a pull type locking lever. If it is slipping, it probably needs to be rebuilt with a clutch pack kit. The pto clutch drum assembly is an obsolete and no longer available part at the Case IH dealers. Just a note to be careful of.....when engaging the pto clutch, engage it at the lowest possible rpm and be VERY gentle and easy (slow) about it. If you engage the pto clutch hard, over time the clutch pack plate ears will eat into the pto clutch drum rendering it useless. These are very difficult to find in good shape.

bvance, so they can not use ztr mowers there to mow with since they have less traction by far than does a tractor in 2 wheel drive does. We have a slope we mow that must run about 25 degrees and when it is wet our ZTR can not climb it but our B 2710 with 72 inch rfm will run right up it in 2 wheel drive. It is covered with grass very well and will be soft also. Our mowing season runs about the same as yours but realize you have more rain fall. The B 2710 has R 4 tires on it and it may leave some impression when soil is wet but not as much as mower's wheels do.

It would seem if the tractor tires leave as much an impression as is said, you must use a mmm and have the weight of the mower off of the smaller tires of a rfm and on the tractor tires.

The tractor does have glo plugs and Merritt Equipment is supposed to have the glo plugs ready to pick-up about 8am today. The tractor ran fine when it was delivered until it died. (He did use the starting fluid to start it to back it off the trailer) We used the tractor for over an hour before it died. It would occasionally hit like it was going to start, but did not start. My fuel cap is a solid top, unlike my yanmar cap. Should I get a vented cap? Hopefully the Merrit Equipment ordered the correct glo-plugs and it will fix it as far as the running part. If it is worn rings, would it not lose power under load? We were moving a dirt pile using the front end loaded prior to it quiting. It died on the way back to the barn. Does anyone know the glo-plug part number or if it crosses over with another tractor in case the tractgor place ordered the wrong ones?

I looked in the service manual last night. There's nothing complex about the shifting mechanism. The shifting lever that goes into the transmission mid section and directly drives a shifting fork which in turn slides the gear set between the three different gears. My worst fear is that I broke the shifting lever or fork inside the transmission. If so, this is gonna turn into quite a complicated job. I would think that the roll pin would shear before either of those two would break. I have a little bit of disassembly to do before I can even get to the roll pin.
I'm gonna finish digging and filling the pit I started for the rock collection I have. Then I'll start surgery.

Hello, and welcome to Tractor Point. I can see a Deere tractor about the same size as my 4310 being able to handle your needs. The old 4000 series like mine is now the 3000 twenty series. A mid size 3000 twenty is about 32-35 hp. I don't know if you can get a tractor and heavy losder for 20K or not, but I would stay with the 3000, a 2000 series might do what you want but they are a really small frame tractor with I think a limited cat. one three point hitch and probably not heavy enough for your needs, a 3000 ten series weighs about 3000 lb. I can't remember the series of loaders that fit the 3000 twenty tractors but I know they have a heavy duty model, the heavy duty bucket is not much more and well worth the difference too. I have an MX 5 rotary cutter for the 4310 and it handles it just fine. Far as other impliments I'm pretty much a Landpride fan - Box blade, Rear mount finish mower, Landscape rake, 1558 three point tiller, etc. Don't waste your money on a counterballance weigh box for the loader, get a box blade, it will serve the same purpose and be one of the most usefull implements you have. You may want to add some rear wheel weights for a bit more loader stability, I am not much of a fan of using fluid filled tires for added weight, I've had too many bad experiences with fluid filled tires on farm tractors, a leak is a real BIG mess. Like you have local Deere dealer that has always been fair in their dealings and takes care of any peoblems without any hassle. I've did business with them for a long time and just don't shop anywhere else. In my book Deere and Landpride are as good as it gets in their respective fields, I don't own any stock in either company, but just like their products. They may cost a bit more in the begining, but come trade in time there won't be any him-hawing around by the dealer. Enjoy your new Deere. Frank.

The tires on my 950 are original! No limestone around me and not that much tractor use. Yes, I've fixed a few flats over the years. The tractor is kept in the shade so the sun hasn't been too bad to it.

Here's my boat story: When I turned 14, I started working for Ted Smith (not the correct name) at his marina in Pompano Beach, FL. He was a nice guy and I learned a lot from him. During the summer, I worked 12 hours per day, 7 days per week. At $1 per hour, I made $84 per week! That was good money back then, especially for a 14 year old. In one day, I could scrape the barnacles off the bottom of an 18' boat, sand the bottom and paint it with a lead based paint to inhibit future barnacle growth. Income to Ted would be $160. Costs were $20 in paint, $3 paint brush, and $12 to me for a total of $35. That netted Ted $125 profit. Not bad money. My problem is I figured that out by myself at 14. So, when I turned 15, I asked for a raise; after all, the local grocery store paid 15 year olds $1.60 per hour! Ted told me he couldn't afford to give me a raise. So, despite my love of boats, I began working in the produce department!

No doubt I have a low price air grease gun but it is dangerous. The sound it makes is the same regardless of whether it is pumping grease or not. You can think you have pumped such as a mower spindle and no grease was pumped due to being empty or such. But it sounds the same so I don't use it on such as cutter spindles. It is a Sears air gun. Took the first one back and the second did the same. No idea on other air great guns. kt<br>

You probably need to use high temp in those spindles any way. Ask.

If you wish, you can simply plug it into the existing hydraulics, using the correct couplers. Then, when you pull the proper lever, and perhaps hold it there with a bungee cord or something, the fluid will flow thru the backhoe valve. This works for me. I already had a three-spool valve added, from a power beyond, but didnt have anymore room for anymore couplers or anything. So I put on the right nipples and plugged it into the existing couplers. When I found out the correct flow direction, I marked the couplers with colored zip ties.

Thanks everybody, sounds like it all makes sense. I'm doing this to open up my view off the mountain, but once cleared I'm going to have to stay after it otherwise I'll be back where I started in just a few years. I'm thinking they will not leave it ready for me to run the bushhof over it. Maybe we will see.

Cleaning up the mess might make a nice winter project, right now its too hot here to do much of anything.

Hey all.

I removed the inspection cover on the lower right side near where your right toes would be, Can't see much, but what I can see, is a thick coating of accumulated clutch dust on what I think is the spindle. Maybe some corrosion as well. If I had to guess, I would say this tractor had been underwater at some time.
If the clutch/pressure plate/thrust bearing assembly looks like it did on my old VW or the old Chevy's, then I would say the accumulated dust on the spindle is keeping the thrust bearing from sliding back. What is weird is, when the tractor was stored last fall, the owner did not lock the clutch pedal down, yet the thrust bearing rod which ties to the pedal linkage is bottomed out as though the pedal were being pressed down. And, the clutch is engaged all the time.
I did make a linkage adjustment, and slightly bent the lever on the thrust bearing rod, but it is not bent too far from original manufacture.

So, if I go to split this thing, where is it best to break the hydraulic pump line? Under the seat, or at the pump?

And the FEL. There are two square rods mounted inside the frame on the left hand side. About 1/2 inch square, 3 feet long, and they clip to the frame. What are they used for? I assume they are used to aid in removing the FEL, but how?

When removing the FEL, I assume you drive the tractor where your going to leave the FEL, drop the bucket, remove the bolts on left and right hand side near the footrests, use hydraulics to cause the frame to lift out of the frame sockets where the bolts were removed. I suspect you then use the rods mentioned above to hold the frame up. You then disconnect the hydraulic lines, and somehow, disconnect the FEL at the front end under the radiator. I assume it's the two lever like bolts are removed.
Then you back the tractor out of the FEL.

I know it's a lot of information, but any input on the above is welcome.

Oh, and I noticed yesterday that the right front journal (4wd) has oil leaking from it. How difficult is this going to be to repair? I assume a seal kit would be needed, but any other special tools or surprises?

Your proposed HP range sounds right. Smaller can do everything bigger can, but slower, so the value of your time is also a factor. You'll need traction, so in this size range you'll want ag-tread tires and 4WD capability.

A FEL is worth the cost, and needed if you get a rear hoe. All the work is done by attachments, they can add up to as much as the tractor, and choosing and installing the FEL is not a DIY project for most owners, so get a package deal. Haying has local customs, so get the advice of farming neighbors and dealers. Before plowing you might want to use a rock-remover.

Spark plugs are kind of am amazing thing in that they now go almost forever in a car or pickup without replacement. last time I replaced plugs was in a Venture van with about a hundred thousand miles. Back before EW was born the gas stations used to have samdblasters that cleaned plugs, one of those would probably be an antique now. Frank.

Hopefully you saved the old one. Asian caps are sometimes stamped with a (metric) pressure rating in Atmospheres. Should you find a number like 0.3 or 0.43 (maybe higher), multiply it by 14.696 to get PSI.<br>
