We just filled up with a couple hundred gallons at $2.49. We may replace the water heater and dryer with electric models soon. Electric rates here have gone up about 40% in the last eight years while LP is up 300%.

Had a brain fart this week. I got some bear problems around my little house. Real cute and funny till you walk out behind one chasing him away right? Then about 5 min later I unhook my 3 point arms and the top link and see the bear cross infront of me. I pay no attention to it but keep its location in my corner of my eye, I drive away and turn around to hook up my plow. Thats when I see the front half of the power take off pushing gravel. On further inspect the joint looks to be fine but the yolk is busted. Anyone think I need to inspect the power take off before using it? Was planning to start her real slow although I was so teed that I decided to just finish my plowing and go home none the wiser (or madder)

I fixed up mine this last week. Last winter played heck on my drive and I used up alot of my stock pile. I am thinking about have a tandom or two come myself and build up my stock for future! It never spoils ya know!

The peerless transaxle should take 1200 ft.lbs of torque.It will also handle 1800 lbs. of weight per axle.I think the outer bearing was the culprit,when it went out it put the axle in a bind.The Ventrac uses 35 mm axles so when I it get back together,I dont think I will baby it.The axle really didnt break,but it sure got chewed up.

The lower arms on these machines are never straight from the factory, they always have a bend profile of some sort. It's probably not safe to assume a change to the original bend profile resulted in a weaker part. I would have thought a cheaper fix would be to space the wheels out a bit.

Right at this moment the Gator is in a shed at the farm, but I'm not at the farm so I can't go out and check the tire size. I do remember that when we bought the XUV in May of 07 that the dealer did recommend an optional tire that we did buy, I have no idea of the size, but it must be OK as I can't think of anytime it was a problem. Frank.

Kenneth, not much of our work is actual logging. The vast majority of it is doing 'line work' in sensitive areas for utility companies.

We have had two crews each consisting of a single horse and handler in the really ritzy lake country just north of here placing and replacing utility poles for several summers in a row now. Everybody wants electricity and telephone service, but nobody wants the pole lines built or maintained. When we go in there are no angry neighbours, instead they bring the kids out to watch.

We even did one job on a large island where the horse swam out to it while the handler paddled alongside in a canoe! Way cheaper and less stressful for the animal than a powered barge ride.

Sing? No, but the 'cowboy' drives the truck horse rides off into the sunset.

Never given one a kiss or a hug either, but I've received more than one kick, and several (usually playful) bites.

Likely not all the oil drained out. The remaining oil means the axle was full without having to put the full 9 quarts back in.

Your local bank's loan officers should have a farm equipment blue book. This book is much like the Kelly Blue Book, when dealing with new and used automobiles.

Your local bank won't mind if you inquire about a tractor or two, but if you're serious about shopping for a tractor, it might be best to invest in a farm equipment blue book of your own.

If you don't want to invest in the blue book, your next best option is to compare prices at tractorhouse.com, or ironsearch.com.

The blue book will give you much better pricing information. Armed with the REAL value of the tractor, you'll be in a much better position to wheel and deal on any used tractor.

The price is around 60 dollars for the annual farm guide, but armed with this information, you could save maybe a thousand dollars on your next tractor purchase.

Not a regular, just surfing but noticed this post. I've been through several of 3 point issues with my new 2008 2520 and my 62D MMM so I had to get on here and respond. Here's what I learned:
The 3 point draft arms each have two holes in them that can be used to connect the rock shaft lifting linkages to the draft arms. You have to have the lift linkages connected to the proper hole in each arm. One set of holes closest to the tractor will give you the most travel. Apparently some units get installed wrong. I read a JD DTAC report that explained this problem. The other set of holes will seriously limit both up and down travel. Check this first. According to the DTAC this is the cause of most problems with restricted implement vertical travel.
The other problem a lot of people are having with the 2520 3 point is draft arms hitting the R4 tires in full raised position with certain implements. This is such a prevalent problem that JD is replacing the draft arms with a new design that are bent so that they provide more tire clearance. I got this fix for free on my tractor. There is a DTAC report on this as well that describes the problem. JD does not have a formal recall replacement program yet but if you complain a lot you'll eventually get the new arms. I had this problem with all my JD implements and others say that there IMatch also will not fit unless they turn the pins inward. If you want tons of data do a search on 2520. Read all posts about 3 point hitch or tire clearance problems. Lots of people are getting this fixed.
For anyone with 62D mower deck. There is a replacement program for the anti-scalp wheels. There has been so many problems with the front castors digging into sod that JD will replace all 4 wheels with a more rounded corner version and also provide instructions on how to install zerk fittings on the front castor wheels so they can be greased and thus spin correctly. The castor axis had no way to lubricate on earlier decks. I got these free parts and it drastically improved the ability of the wheels to do their job without digging in. The newer decks starting some time in 2007 already have these wheels and zerks. Thee is a DTAC for this also.
I spent many months figuring out what caused these problems for me and eventually got them all fixed by digging around on the internet. My dealer was no help in finding the fixes to these problems. I hope you all have better luck.

Safety features are there for operators that have a brain cramp and forget a known procedure. Shut of PTO etc.

If you wan't some input on the 3030 check , Compact tractor.net,(some cab tip&noise complaints)the 7800 had the overall best ratings of the Kubota's & the other brands,but you can also wait on some input from Me,I have absolutely no intention of pampering mine!..In fact I'll let you test drive it,...If You let Me hunt your property!..

I got the same answer, the 485 is a 448 with updated mounting brackets for hoses so it can be used with a cab tractor.

I got the mechanical spec sheet and all the digging dimensions and such are identical from the 448 and 485.

I am looking for a tractor in the 40-50 pto hp range, and I need an SCD/Motor valve to drive a few implements. Does anyone know if JD offers this type of valve on tractors in this hp range? If JD doesn't, can you recommend a brand that does? Thanks.
