this also gives me a followup question. Does anyone make an equivalent to Haynes/Chilton/Bentley Manuals for various makes/models of tractors?

I thought it best to post this info here, since the topic had already been brought up at least once before.

We've been through a few weed trimmers over the years. None of the previous machines were worth the powder it would take to blow them up. This time I decided to look for a high quality trimmer.......and I found one.

The Echo SRM-230 weed trimmer is a fantastic machine. It's well-balanced, powerful, simple to maintain, easy to load with new line, and easy on fuel. It outperforms anything I've ever used.

I purchased this one used, off Ebay, from a fella in Texas. Even with shipping, the price was exactly half that of a new one -- but even at the new price, the purchase would be worth it.

Echo has a complete set of manuals posted online, free of charge. Parts are easy to get, and the manuals are of the highest quality. It's obvious that the people who designed the parts manuals knew what they were doing. The parts and assembly diagrams are of the highest quality.

For anyone looking for a new weed trimmer, the Echo line of trimmers shouldn't be overlooked. I highly recommend the Echo SRM-230 weed trimmer.

Ken, the same chain saw I mentioned above locked up a few years ago. Had to replace a lot of parts. Asked what caused it and the shop who did the work; who sold the saw and only ones who ever serviced it said, the fuel mixture was set too lean. Did not bother them at all the 3 or 400 repair bill. kt

It seems if it was as much fluid as you say, it would be easy to tell if your hyd fuild was way low and if so it was that, but if it were full or near full it was fuel. At first thought you could tell be the smell but you may not. kt

Thank you very much for your reply. I did indeed talk to a different dealership. It apears that the mechanics at Wilsons tractor don't really know what they're doing. A representative from Mahindra finally called me back and promised they are working on the problem and trying to fix it as fast as possible. Meanwhile I'm still going to talk to a lawyer next week. I don't think the problem will go away unless I take it to the next level. I'm bitter about this whole situation and feel I'm being bullied. I bought a brand new tractor because I wanted something that works for a few years before the repairs starting. Now I'm wondering if I should've bought some cheap run down used one and rebuilt it on my own. I guess for now I can only hope that the lawyer I'm about to hire knows his job. Not like the mechanics at Wilsons.

I happened upon a long list of welcome of new members and other unanswered questions. A while back there was conversation about all the welcome of new members (btw I liked) but it seems there are some Unanswered Questions getting lost in there also. I realize some questions posted no one may have any suggestion on and it seems they can occupy that position for a while keeping other questions off the Unanswered Question spot and give the impression they are being ignored when they may not being seen. Any way we can improve that? kt

Hard to believe if the cutter is only three months old it would be rusted so tight unless it has something like salt or fertlizer on it some how. I fully agree with Joel but be 100% sure you are getting it released. If you have the new shaft in hand look at it carefully to be sure there is no spring loaded release.

BTW, the cut shaft, don't toss it, you probably can buy the replacement shafts for it using the ends which is much of the cost. kt

Unless I missed something (possible) there should be no reason there is air in the oil simply by changing the oil. After all, all you did was dump the oil supply while it was NOT running, right? If yes, then all the lines should be filled, with the slight exception of possibly the suction line if it dribbled back from the filter or pump.

From my experience, running a pump out of oil briefly (without damaging it) takes a millisecond to start working again once it was refilled.

However, finding metal particles in the sump AND having a slowly operating machine prior means, to me, a wiped out pump. And the fact that it is aerating the oil means that the pump can't make pressure and the fluid is squirting past the side plates of the pump which causes cavitation. And the more it cavitates the more it wipes out the side plates.

If you have one of those fancy hand-held laser thermometers, you'll easily be able to locate the problem.

With the new battery installed, your starter should spin over like crazy. If it's cranking real slow, you've likely got a loose connection somewhere in the starter circuit. (It could be in the starter itself.)

A loose connection acts like a huge resistor. Any resistance in an electrical circuit will generate a tremendous amount of heat. (A heating element is nothing more than a resistor.) If you have a temp gun, you should easily be able to find the "hot" spot in the electrical circuit. Actually, it may be only about 20 degrees warmer than the other connections, due to the small amount of time involved while trying to start the engine.

If you don't have a temp gun, try feeling the connections with your hand......but don't burn yourself. Any obviously hot connection is a good indication that you've got a faulty connection at that point.

Don't forget to check all connections on the ground side of the circuit, as well.

There are several messages on this board pertaining to a common problem with New Holland tractors. It seems you may have a similar problem.

The problem seems to be with the design of the fittings at the bottom of the radiator. If I'm not mistaken, there's a retrofit kit available, which is designed to solve the problem.

We have several members here who will be able to provide a much better description of the problem.

This board is for having an enjoyable yet informative visit. We like to think of it as sitting around the camp fire having a talk, 'cept there's no fire and no camp.

We don't get paid for giving (sometimes) priceless pearls of information---I'm still on-the-fence about Kenny's input though---hug, Kenny?

Many of us have spent many a sleepless night, many a busted knuckle, many a broken part, many a dollar up in smoke getting to get where we can literally give good reliable, tested-true information to help someone else--for free--nonetheless.

The other end of the spectrum is, these same H-N-R's have had many of us take quality time out of our day to respond to their post, only they themselves never get back to us.

I have seen a few times where the H-N-R actually gets nasty because no one responded to his crappy post.

It boils down to courtesy.

Can you explain what you mean by that? Are you trying to say that the Navistar PowerStroke has no injection pump?

How would it run without a pump?

Tractors can do an amazing amount of work for you throughout your lifetime if you have the right attachments, and you do better by getting them in a single package. You also want tire tread suitable for the intended work. So I suggest you think about uses for it, and discuss with local dealers. After you decide what you want is the time to think about getting a good deal on it.

A question for you. I removed the football shaped plate on my 250 to check the valve. When the plate is off there is a flat aluminum disc in the hole. This disc is very tight and I can't get it out. It has a hole in the middle of it about 3/8" and I can see through it to a spring. I assume it is the bypass valve. I do not want to force this disc to remove it. Any suggestions?

The 3pth lifts and lowers the lower links with no load on them, however, when an implement is on, it will just take up the slack in the arms but will not lift the implement. I assume it is this by pass valve.

Pump is okay, it works the loader, 3pth cylinder fine too. I hooked the lines up that go to the 3pth cylinder to another cylinder on an implement and the same thing, it takes up the slack but has no power to lift.

As a Belarus mechanic your opinion would be valued.

As with garage sales, the goods are supposed to look like they were just found in granny's attic and aren't you lucky to have come across them. In fact, some came from jobbers who supply these sellers who in effect are running a retail operation (an almost-zero-overhead, no-returns, cash-in-the-pocket one). But knowing that, I still go to them and buy my share of interesting stuff. I once drove by a roadside flea market that was miles long.
