There are several messages on this board pertaining to a common problem with New Holland tractors. It seems you may have a similar problem.

The problem seems to be with the design of the fittings at the bottom of the radiator. If I'm not mistaken, there's a retrofit kit available, which is designed to solve the problem.

We have several members here who will be able to provide a much better description of the problem.

This is a common problem when draining all of the hydraulic fluid from a tractor.

Maybe I didn't catch it......but did you also check the sump screen? A plugged sump screen will prevent the system from priming.

You haven't done anything to harm your tractor. You've simply lost the prime in the hydraulic pump system.

You might find that your loader will begin working again tomorrow, after sitting overnight.

My Kubota manual warns against attempting to operate the loader, or any other hydraulics, for several minutes after changing the fluids. It's OK to run the engine at low RPMs for several minutes while the hydraulic system is attempting to prime itself, but Kubota warns against running the engine at high RPMs until the system has re-primed. When it finally primes, you'll hear it.

Start the engine and let it run at idle speed.....maybe up to about 15 minutes. The hyd. system should eventually prime itself.

IF YOU HAVE HYDROSTATIC DRIVE....do not attempt to move the tractor until the loader and 3-point hitch are once again operational.

Purchased a relatively new 70554 chipper (3 months old, garage kept) for my New Holland tractor. The previous owner had a Simplicity tractor and had to have the PTO shaft cut very small. Now the distance is too long between the chipper and my tractor's PTO shaft. Ordered a new shaft (~$200 - ouch!) but found that removing the old shaft from the chipper was VERY difficult. Is it supposed to be so tight? It's a keyway locking mechanism and, according to Crary, it should slide off with little difficulty (two bolts at 90-degree offset keep it on the chipper shaft). Any similar experiences?

We have what I call "hit-and-run" (H-N-R) posters. This is where someone needs (nay, DEMANDS) info RIGHT NOW and ends up not wanting to take the time to leave a thought-out post. Read: You want good responses, then leave a good post.

This board is for having an enjoyable yet informative visit. We like to think of it as sitting around the camp fire having a talk, 'cept there's no fire and no camp.

We don't get paid for giving (sometimes) priceless pearls of information---I'm still on-the-fence about Kenny's input though---hug, Kenny?

Many of us have spent many a sleepless night, many a busted knuckle, many a broken part, many a dollar up in smoke getting to get where we can literally give good reliable, tested-true information to help someone else--for free--nonetheless.

The other end of the spectrum is, these same H-N-R's have had many of us take quality time out of our day to respond to their post, only they themselves never get back to us.

I have seen a few times where the H-N-R actually gets nasty because no one responded to his crappy post.

It boils down to courtesy.

EW, checked the oil and it's at the full mark. But these
engines won't run if the low oil alert is giving false info.
Some googling told me to disconnect it as a test. Not sure
if that's right or not but that's what some guys do. When I bought my used log splitter the low oil wire was cut off at the block. Apparently a prior owner had the same problem and just said screw it. That engine runs fine when it's warm but has the same cold start problems.

I ordered a service manual from Helm to figure it out.

Can you explain what you mean by that? Are you trying to say that the Navistar PowerStroke has no injection pump?

How would it run without a pump?

Tractors can do an amazing amount of work for you throughout your lifetime if you have the right attachments, and you do better by getting them in a single package. You also want tire tread suitable for the intended work. So I suggest you think about uses for it, and discuss with local dealers. After you decide what you want is the time to think about getting a good deal on it.

I just bought a AMT600 and cannot get it to start. I gave it a new battery. I cleaned the gas tank and replaced the filter. I replaced the spark plug. Gas is going to the carb. It's not cranking fast enough to start. Please help.<br>

A question for you. I removed the football shaped plate on my 250 to check the valve. When the plate is off there is a flat aluminum disc in the hole. This disc is very tight and I can't get it out. It has a hole in the middle of it about 3/8" and I can see through it to a spring. I assume it is the bypass valve. I do not want to force this disc to remove it. Any suggestions?

The 3pth lifts and lowers the lower links with no load on them, however, when an implement is on, it will just take up the slack in the arms but will not lift the implement. I assume it is this by pass valve.

Pump is okay, it works the loader, 3pth cylinder fine too. I hooked the lines up that go to the 3pth cylinder to another cylinder on an implement and the same thing, it takes up the slack but has no power to lift.

As a Belarus mechanic your opinion would be valued.

This is a possibility...

There could be a leak anywhere in the injection system...
Here is an example of a leak search on a JD injection system...YMMV...:-)

A. Leakage occurring at any point in the fuel system within the pump compartment should be noticed. There is always some lubricating oil in this area, but it is not difficult to distinguish between lubricating oil and diesel fuel. If fuel is leaking, check for:

1. Loose cap screws attaching pump to bracket or defective pump-to-bracket gasket.

2. Loose cap screws attaching pump bracket to cylinder block.

3. Loose fuel line connections at pumps or delivery valve holder (R930R or R1082R). (Delivery valve holder could be tight and leaking could be due to a leaky delivery valve gasket.)

4. Gasket or gaskets between pump bracket and cylinder not holding. (Also examine surfaces of block and pump bracket.)

B. If the fuel injection pump itself is leaking, due to worn or defective parts, there is a good possibility that the window in the pump body will be filled with a small puddle of fuel. This pocket should otherwise contain only a light film of oil at the bottom.

When examining the pump area, it is well to bear in mind that lubricating oil is metered up to the fuel pump and, therefore, a small amount of oil should be detected coming out of the tappet end of the pump.

If there is no fuel in the bottom of the pump compartment, then the leakage is in the tappet cover area or in the lower portion of the lines between the pumps and injectors. Check for the following:

5. Loose connections between injectors and fuel lines.

6. Worn fuel line (tappet lever rubbing).

7. Loose spray tip retaining nuts.

8. Cracked or burst fuel lines.

It is also possible that fuel is leaking past defective seals in the fuel transfer pump, in which case the fuel will enter the crankcase directly by way of the governor case and will not be found in the pump compartment.

As with garage sales, the goods are supposed to look like they were just found in granny's attic and aren't you lucky to have come across them. In fact, some came from jobbers who supply these sellers who in effect are running a retail operation (an almost-zero-overhead, no-returns, cash-in-the-pocket one). But knowing that, I still go to them and buy my share of interesting stuff. I once drove by a roadside flea market that was miles long.

This is almost exactly what my TD95D is doing. It's in the shop getting the injector pump rebuilt right now.

I'm not yet convinced this is the problem yet but New holland told them to send the pump off next time it messes up on me.

The only thing I have been able to find out of ht eordinary is a solenoid on the inside of the pump is buzzing like crazy when the engine runs. I can hear it in the cab. The dealer mechanics didn't know what to think of that. It's not the fuel shutoff solenoid and I don't know what it does, but it's connected by linkage on the outside of the pump to a lever near the front of the pump. You can't move it by hand no matter how hard you try so something isn't right.

My problem has been intermittant for a little over a month now. It usually messes up after I fill up. It will run about 1-5 minutes then start smoking and dying out. when it stalls I get out, bleed the air out and it starts right up and runs fine for a couple more minutes.
When I called them this time to come and get it I had to stop and bleed it out almost 20 times to get back to the house. There is NO air leak and my filters are clean. I'm sure of that. I've been over that entire fuel system with the dealer mechanics out here twice now.

TC24daman, its been the best thing I've bought in a long time , sorry I just saw your post, it digs great , I'm glad it has the extra subframe,with the 4 point hook up vs. the three point arms , its powerful for what it is , no problems yet , I dug out a hillside two weeks ago on a 88 degree day , flawless performance , I dug out a 12x22 section 5ft high , it took 18 small dump truck loads of dirt to clear it , I have nothing but praise for the backhoe , Craig.

Thanks all.

Was just thinking about it this morning over coffee. The throwout bearing shaft, the shaft that the clutch pedal linkage hooks up to, does not move at all. In fact, it is in the pedal depressed position so that the clutch start safety switch is depressed (although as mentioned earlier, for some reason the tractor won't key start, but I can jumper start at the starter.).
And, there is no clutch as it grinds when you try to shift gears.

I know in my old Volkswagon's when the clutch or pressure plate had a problem, the throw out arm still moved, you just couldn't feel anything as I mentioned before.

I know it's a second time around on what you think the problem may be, but just wanted to be sure all the facts were known for analysis (or re-analysis.).

Morf, I understand exactly what your saying on the FEL. And to both you and Art, I will do this on my concrete driveway, and will block the front wheels. Was going to block under the rear of the engine using jack stands so it wouldn't fall. Was also debating about leaving the brush hog on the rear in order to keep the rear stable, although it might make for difficulty when we assembling.

Again, thanks to you both for your knowledge and insight. Art, do you give Tractorpoint friends a good deal on parts?
