does anyone know where to get the steering shaft gearbox bearing for a 1976 long 445 tractor ther are tapered bearings no inner race just fit on a cone made on steering shaft inside steering gearbox

The conventional wisdom on automotive extended warranties is that they usually aren't worth the cost. And although I totally agree with that logic we always buy an extended warranty anyway and have never lost money on one. We buy them sort of as an insurance policy - pay the known cost up front rather than face uncertainty and possible large expenses later.<br>

Ford Taurus SHO - repeated electrical problems with windows and mirrors, A/C problems, broken trunk latch (required rewelding of latch and paint), rear brakes a constant problem, thousands of dollars in repairs after the factory warranty expired.<br>

Ford Ranger - with a few hundred miles left on the extended warranty both heads had to be replaced on the engine. The repair bill would have been around $500 more than the cost of the warranty.<br>

Toyota Highlander - One month after the factory warranty expired the HVAC control panel had to be replaced - $800 for the part plus labor. We paid that $800 for the warranty so it's a wash at worst.<br>

I'm curious how many of you have purchased the extended warranty and not needed it vs. needing it and not having it.

weight is weight. Curb weight and balanced load weight are reciprical. Any carried load is incumbent on controlling where the center of gravity is. And the design of the material handling device is governed by that factor. What the application of the user is has to be within that of the designed capabilities. Your observations based on experience are great. However to get back to the fundamentals of the issue is to understand that ALL of us want to know what we can do to maximise the potential of our equipmemnt without spending a ton of money. This forum is great because we can share experience over top of sales hype.

According to one of the Japanese broker's sites the sd1500 was pre- 1980 and 15 HP (probably at the PTO). Based on tractordata.com the Ford (made by Shibaura) 1200 or 1300 are possible matches (made 1979 - 1982, and 16hp at the engine). Finding an engine number (usually in the format A999, on a tag riveted to the side of the engine) and finding out which Ford used that engine may give you a better start.

I am considering buying a set of quick hitches for my 3pt hitch to make it easier to hook up my brushog and box blade. I own a kubota l3400 and was wondering if anybody has used these and if there was any problems using them. They look handy and if you do not have to wrestle with your implements to get them hooked up i am all for it. I have seen prices all over the internet ranging from around 50.00 to around 200.00 for a set. I was curious to hear from folks that have them and see where they purchased them from I would like to know the difference between a 50 set and a 200 set.

It could be several things. Bent shift fork? Lift 1st gear gate out of way and try just a little farther in. What does gear box oil look like? full of metal, chunks, fillings etc. If oil full you'll have to take the gear box apart.

Have plenty of safe fun. Since you already have filled tires I would suggest leaving them like that for a while before the effort to drain them to be sure you don't want the weight. Do read the owner's manual to learn it as you use it. kt

Have you checked the linkage from the shift lever to the transmission? I think some series had a lever clamped to a shaft coming out of the transmission that could have worked loose too. Frank.

I am looking for some advice. I spent a lot of time on this site a few years back researching tractors and found this site to be a life line for a guy like me who was buying a tractor for the first time. I have been poking around last few days trying to figure out if I should sell my JD 2210 and buy this TC26DA from my neighbor. I have had great success with my JD. I have had it for 5 yrs and have 200 hrs. I have a 210 loader MMM and normal rear implements and have been able to acomplish a lot including using it as my primary mowing machine. <br>

The canidate that I am looking at has a 12la loader, and a 756c back-hoe. No other implements. It is a 06 maybe 07. Warrenty runs out in 02-09. It has 145 hrs. <br>

So, I used it tonite just to move some lose dirt from one pile to another and used the bh just to dig a small hole that I filled back in. It took some getting used to. I am so used to the creature comforts of the JD, that it did take some time to get somewhat fluid. Which I never really got, but I wonder does everyone experience that when they get on a new product for the first time. <br>

It is a much bigger tractor. I feel that I would have to also get a mower if I got rid of the JD, as the TC is to large for the mowing I do. I do have enough work for the TC and have thought of getting something larger than my JD over the years. <br>

Any comments on the TC would be helpful. I am a novice overall with this. Especially the BH stuff. I have never used one, and didn't do enough work to feel like I know it capibilities. He is asking 14,800 for the unit. Is that a decent price for the outfit? <br>

I have not found much info on the TC26DA. There is only one on tractorhouse. Why so few, was it a short run model? What gives? Thanks for the help.

Greg is probably close. Could be inside valve metal shavings etc. But that makes the most sense for a place to start.

If your tractor has a loader, you should be able to start somewhere between $7200 - $7800. Without a loader, your tractor would be worth between $5500-$6000, depending upon overall condition.

Provided everything is in working order, and you have documentation showing when the service work was performed, the value of your tractor would be slightly higher than these estimates.

I hate to see you sell it. You really should take it to Florida with you. It would come in very handy after tornadoes, hurricanes, etc.

I would consider $3000 a fair price. It has several options such as the cab, front brush guard and the power cargo bed lift, plus new tires with less than 20 hours on them. The batteries are in good shape and I have a spare in fair shape from another RV use that is identical to the eight that are in the Gator. You can see a half dozen similar E-Gators for sale on Machine Finder:

but none of them have all these options or new tires, and they are in the center of the country, not here on the west coast. The asking prices for them average above $3500 and most have more hours than mine.

I've had the TC 33D with the 914 rear discharge for 6 years now and I'm happy with it. I've never regretted not getting the side discharge. One thing nice that hasn't been mentioned for the rear discharge is there is a lot less chance of an object (Stone) getting thrown from under the mower and hitting someone or something and causing injury. Frank, there is a severe lack of common sense today. Think we need to change it from "common sense" to uncommon sense. The ability to "think" or to make the effort has been lost. Partly and largely due to our policians who want us to just "trust them." Guess what was "horse sense" did not keep up with the horse power increase. Proves it is only in living breathing creatures and not man made creations. kt

It is easy to look at buying as a win-lose situation. It should not be. There is more than price to consider. One day service will come into play. If you are not comfortable to talk with the dealership or sales person as a friend, you are not at the right one. If all you care about is price then why not just use a bid request. Be warned that turns off many professional sales people. kt
