I believe that John Deere discontinued the E-Gator after a run of a few for a promotional program, but may be wrong.

I have only seen one, and it in a dealer show a year or so back.

For some reason I was thinking the one I saw had a low range selector so you could choose between hard flat surfaces and turf, so a John Deere dealer is likely the best way to get some good information.

If it is like most electric powered rigs, it will have a chain drive from the motor. If that is the case, you can install a larger secondary sprocket and gear it down.

I want to personally thank each of you for offering up the advice and the suggestions. It is much appreciated.

Cando, North Dakota is a very small town. The people here are very polite, friendly, and easy to get to know. I've tilled a few garden plots in town, ALWAYS after first getting the underground utilities marked. It's a service that is provided free of charge by the local utility companies, so failing to do so would be a very STUPID thing to do. I always ask the homeowner to have this done before I come in to do any yard work. Everyone, to this point, has complied.

As for breaking up a piece of new ground, I use my cultivator with chisel points to break up the sod, prior to tilling it. This allows me to search for rocks, barbed wire, buried steel, etc...before putting the tiller to it. This practice has already saved me a whole lot of time and trouble. I once hit a coil of wire with the cultivator, which appears to have come from a previously burned steel belted radial tire. It took me a few minutes to untangle it from the cultivator, but it would have taken me hours......or days....to get it out of my tiller.

At any rate, I'm not going to turn this into a business. Cando has a population of about 1000 people. The amount of work I'll have isn't really worth the time or effort that would go into making a business of it. For the most part, I'm simply offering my services to anyone who might need it....and at a modest fee.

I'm currently charging 40 dollars to till up a residential garden plot, provided it's been used as a garden in the past. To break up a new garden, I charge 100 dollars. If I have to travel out of town, I charge 30 dollars to load my tractor on the trailer, and 1 dollar per mile for travel. If a customer provides a referral for me, I give them a 10 dollar break on the total price of the job.

Most everyone seems happy with the fee, and I'm very happy to have them as customers......and hopefully for a very long time. There just aren't enough people here to allow for the loss of even one customer.

My Insurance salesman is a very friendly, local woman. My tractor is insured through her. I have full coverage insurance in the event that something should happen to it while towing it from one job to the next. My truck is also insured. I don't expect to make more than a few hundred dollars with my tractor during the entire year, which allows me to keep my tractor insured as a private owner, rather than as a business. If business picks up, I may wish to insure my tractor under a commercial policy, as doing so will also provide me with a substantial amount of property damage liability coverage.

Something does not compute. If it were a suction filter housing, the arrow should point toward the PUMP. Clarification please; what year and model TaiShan please? and what manufacturer and model of replacement spin-on did you install?

Thanks for the advice on engine cover removal, and Murf's advice to put the brush gruard back on!!! You are correct, I have used the FEL to move a rotary tiller (400 pounds of useful steel) a couple of times but, thankfully, it did not bang into the tractor. However, I agree that at some place/time "Murphy's Law" (no offense, pls) will strike.

very nice! sorry you had to give her up. my loader looks just like that one, except the shape of the bucket. it has decent lift to it, given its size. I just need to get a little more weight on my rear to take full advantage of it. if I try to load the loader heavily, the front will sink and the rear rise up. normally that is not a big deal, just lower the load and dump a little. but on an articulated tractor, when the rear comes up and swings around sideways with you on, it can get your adrenalin pumping! cheers

Thanx guys!!! I went to e-bay and saved about 50% off what my local dealer wanted. Welding one together was an option I thought about, but it sounded like a lot of work, thats why I went the e-bay route. Dan (1st time I've ever used e-bay)

My 2006 B7510 HST has a front loader a 6' Woods backhoe on a sub frame mount and a 3 point hitch with a 23 hp diesel brand new Oct 2006 I paid $19000. Maybe the price was a bit high...not sure. I can say I am really pleased with it's performance.Very strong for digging ditches in clay and 1" roots. Handy to dig around stumps but not strong enough to pull large stump without axing and sawing to loosen up. Bucket is small for snow but is good and strong in wet snow...A larger bucket for snow is about $1000 or so. The machine can spread loads of gravel and other soil faster than 10 men and never gets tired.I'm told it should be good for 7000 hours before any major engine maintenance.Hope this is of some help.

If you want to do it yourself, the many actions involved are each quite simple individually if you have a service or engine manual and the tools, and don't lose or mix up anything. You could have an engine mechanic check it before you put it back together. The first time, expect to take three times as long as a pro.

The position control knob is nothing more that stepped surface, sort of like a spiral staircase, that prevents the mower linkage from lowering past which ever 'step' is turned to be in the way of the linkage. Did that make any sense? The likely cause of not being able to get it to the 'top' position, is that the deck linkage isn't going high enough to allow that step to turn under the linkage. Try holding the 3 PT lever in the up position to make sure it's all the way up, then try turning the knob. Also, have you adjusted the deck at all? I think the adjustment linkages will allow you to make it so it won't go all the way up any more. The manual explains that part of it, just not very clearly.

I'm envious. Here it snowed on and off all weekend and was snowing again this morning. At first the ground temp was warm so it wasn't sticking much on the driveway but it went down to the high 20's overnight so now there's some ice. Last weekend was in the 70's so there was hope winter was over but no such luck.
