Frank, you're on the right track with your guess, but the actual figure is just a little higher.

If we use a 'standard' 60" 3pth finish mower as an example;

The average tip speed is about 18,500 rpm, working backwards from the circumference, that means the blade is spinning at ~3,485.5 rpm or ~58 revolutions per second, but there are 2 cutting edges (ends) on the blade so there would be ~116 passes of a cutting edge per second.

Now, if we also assume a mowing speed of 4 mph, that means the blade is moving forwards at the rate of ~5.84' per second, or ~70" per second.

So, we have 116 blade tips passing by a given point every second, and moving forward ~70" in that same period of time. If we divide 70" by 116 passes of the blade we get 1.66" of cut per pass of a blade tip.

So there you have it, the outside 1.66" does almost all of the cutting. Or another way, 8.3% of the blade is what actually does the work.

greg i got the J clips on. i know now that the clips were not installed right, it would have taken me using a screw driver to remove throw out bearing assembly, instead it just slid right off. i have it going my way now and should be able to get alot done on wed. took care of bearings. thanks

FYI- I have a JD 4600 that I'm selling for $10000.00. It has 2180 hrs, Hydro trans, 72inch mid mount mower, 460 loader with 3th valve for 4 n 1 bucket (I'm keeping 4 n 1) material bucket is selling with tractor. Tractor runs great!

I hope this give you an idea or tells me I'm not asking enough? Either way I hope this helps.

Not sure, but think this is the source of your problem. Many times when a back hoe is attached, a diverter valve/manifold is placed in the hydraulics. When they originally hooked the BH, they may have diverted the hydraulics from the 3PH. With most BH installations you have a sub-frame that makes the 3PH solid. You don't want the 3PH to move so it may be disconnected.<br>

On another of my tractors, the diverter valve disconnects hydraulics from the loader. In this instance the loader is none functional when the BH is, etc.<br>

Is there any kind of extra valve handle or switch on this manifold? Do you have any loose hydraulic quick-disconnects? When you take off your BH and disconnect the hydraulics, you don't have some kind of jumper hose going to another quick-disconnect do you?

Your RPM's may be a little high. The clutch on mine was very sensitive to speed. Try adjusting the idle down for starters.
I think you may be able to hold the brake on too to prevent grinding when shifting. I think the brake connects to the driven pulley.

This episode was almost comical...called NH Corp...as Earthwrk noted is what occurred. About as technical as a dozen eggs. I did end up calling the Ag Dealer where I purchased the tractor. He couldn't get the size via parts listing since NH neglected to include the housing cover & bolt sizes in their specs. But, you know what Ray at Eklund Farm Equipment did? He actually went outside & removed the same bolt from a tractor to size it for me. That is one decent fella!
M10x25 for anyone who runs across the same problem. I am a annoyed at the loosening of bolts that are on factory installed components. I could almost understand it happening on after market add ons. Anyway, thanks again fellas for your input.

Bernie, just as a follow up to Franks comments.

Over the years I've discovered that when a seal lets go like that, there's usually a reason. If the reason isn't addressed the new seal just leaks too.

Generally speaking, seals on mower gear boxes fail for just one cause, something like string, twine or even if enough long grass gets wound around the shaft it will do it.

Just be sure the shaft is clean, very smooth, and free of debris before you put the new seal on, and also that the shaft itself is clean and smooth, otherwise you may nick the new seal installing it over the shaft.

I'm not really familiar with the Kioti line, but....

There is a relay which releases fuel pressure and causes the engine to stop when you shut off the key. It sounds like yours is not operating right.

I would be looking for a loose connection or poor ground first though before trying to replace it.

I have had a lot machines with thousands of hours on them, and I can't remember ever having one fail. Several times the wiring to them has given some grief though.

While 315 hours is not much, it is high as you are only getting a $1000 off and no warranty if my estimates are good;). For that you should be looking for more of a cream puff or a much better price.

Re-reading your post, I forgot to mention the box blade. Behind the FEL, I think a box blade is the second most useful tool a guy can have. If snow removel is more critical than maintaining your gravel drive way, then get a blade. With an angled blade you can make successive passes and move the snow to the side of the road. But it is not as useful as a BB for moving material and filling in pot holes etc.

found the post you mentioned but it would certainly help if you could add a picture of your hinged version if that is not too much trouble. Found out that the feed knuckles can be replaced with proper parts. just find the parts and some welding seems to do the job. there is a video on youtube featuring just that mod ( watch?v=Od0mElAjmMg ) anyway i am a lot further in restoring life to my chipper.

I doubt that there would be many safety switches in a Cub Cadet made in the 1960s. However, there may be a neutral safety switch, or a clutch safety switch.

You might want to check to see if you can find a safety switch on the transmission shifter, or on the clutch pedal. Either one, or both, would prevent the tractor from turning over. Fortunately, these switches are easy to check for proper operation. A simple Ohm Meter is all you'll need for that.

Can't help you with the carb screw settings. I have no idea which carb you've got. If you have the numbers off of the carb, I might be able to find you something.
