At first these posts seemed like a good idea but now I'm inclined to agree with EW. All the welcome posts increase the general "noise" level and proportionately decrease the content.

But welcoming new members is a good idea. So I'd like to suggest an alternate two step approach.

Step one might be to automatically generate an email to new users that welcomes them, gives a brief intro to the board and what content is available, and encourages them to post *and answer* questions in their area of expertise.

Step two might be to display a list of new members and their location for the last 7-10 days. By clicking on names of new members you could view their profile. This way members could easily seek out new members in their area without introducing noise into the board content.

Just some ideas.

KT,

It does have an oil gearbox but I have never had any trouble with it leaking. Blocking it up means you have to crawl under and that's a big hassle. It's just easier to flip it, take off the blades, sharpen and then put them back on. It really isn't a problem at all.

Not everyone here will agree with me on this issue........but even if he were asking only 3000 dollars for the gear transmission tractor, I'd hesitate to write him a check.

I've owned two other tractors, prior to purchasing the little Kubota B2100 I currently own. Both were gear models. The little Kubota is a Hydrostatic drive machine, and I will NEVER go back to gears on any compact tractor.

Whatever extra money you have to pay in order to get the hydro transmission, it will be worth it. But, that's just my opinion.

NM....I just bought the 2520 last august from local dealer hear. He let me use it full week. It has plenty of power without going to the next size up 3000 series which is 1000 lbs more in weight. The turning radius on this thing is awsome. It has picked up everything i ever put into the bucket..I did get the imatch hitch and love that thing. The dealer let me use his machine with a no questions return policy. Great guy. If he will let you test the machine that would be great. Best of luck

I'm all but certain that your tractor has a blown head gasket. The best way to test this theory is to perform a compression check on your engine's cylinders. You'll likely discover that one of your cylinders fails the test.

As far as aligning the splines, replacement clutch kits sometimes come with a plastic tool just for that. They are better than the univeral (non-splined) tools since they center the clutch plate as well as the spliens. You could see if the local parts store has a kit in stock and would let you borrow the alignment tool, or see if you can buy the alignment tool by itself.

For putting the tractor back together, a trick I've used on car transmissions may help. Get a couple of bolts the same size as the bellhousing bolts but a little longer. Cut off the heads, and use a hacksaw to slot the end. Use a screwdriver in the slots to turn them into the threads, you now have two guides to help line it up as you reassemble. Once in place, put a couple of bolts in the other holes, then use a screwdriver to remove your guide pins and replace them with the original bolts.

Excellent. Now make sure the main drive friction disc is centered. If your other adjustments are correct it should be just lightly held in place, and you should be able to center it by hand.<br>

While you're waiting for the replacement TOB to arrive, you could replace the pilot bearing. You could also remove the original TOB. To do that, release the sliding collar and take it - bearing and all - to your work bench. Tap off the old bearing. If force is required, apply it to the bearing - not the collar. The bearing is a throwaway, but the collar will likely go back on the tractor. <br>

With the TOB removed, inspect the sleeve onto which the TOB rested. It should be smooth, and ready to have the TOB tapped in place. If it's been damaged by the old bearing - usually seen as one or more grooves cut into what should be a smooth sleeve face - it should be replaced.<br>

Hardwood, you have not ruffles my feathers in anyway regarding eBay purchases. Bad people can ruin it for others easily. I have only one bad experience on eBay when I was selling a skid steer and the winning buyer backed out.
Both sellers of the two hoods that are on there now have 100% positive ratings which is VERY good considering the number of transactions that they have made. Excellent ratings do not come easily. Just the smallest missed detail like slow shipping can get you a negative rating. One of them appears to be a JD dealer whom I have seen on there for a few years. I would buy from either one without reservations. A lot of money can be saved on eBay. We build machines here at our business and buy new surplus cylinders, transformers, motors etc.. all the time without problems.
A good seller makes themselves available to answer questions and send more pictures if asked and show that they are not a fly by night outfit. You may want to reconsider buying there and save some money while your at it. Just my 2.5 cents (due to inflation) John

JD...I have a newer 2520 with 72" midmower that lifts just like yours with the rear 3pt hitch. I too have the imatch system(love that thing)but never had trouble with the tires touching the imatch hitch or 3pt arms...they do come close but not that close. I have used normal tires that it came with think r3 bigger tread pattern and now use turf tires. Do the arms on the 3pt you have swing side to side? (too much play maybe)

I bought it new in 1998. I replaced the first hood about 4 years ago. I park it in a shed when not in use. There isnt any gas or chemical fumes around. I tried to rivet some aluminum sheet metal to and that made it crack worse.
I am baffled. Does anybody else have this problem.

Is the radiator water disappearing? After new head gasket was it some residual moisture left in block?

That much steam? Smoke? out of the breather might indicate excessive blow by.

I think ford likes to use "O" rings to seal many water jackets you didn't miss one of those on reassembly?

OK, now I know who they are. They're selling new tractors in the US, so just contact them. And they don't always use their own engines, for instance, for their 80-HP-range they use a US engine (Perkins), so you might get lucky.
