Woud you have a manual for a SD1603? And do you know anything about the 3 point lifts? Mine is not working at all.

Hardwood: Unless we get a bad blizzard, which seemingly doesn't happen much anymore, I don't like the blower. I have the box blade mounted 98% of the time. The blower is too bulky in tight quarters. Unless you have open space you end up blowing snow and rocks all over cars, trucks, buildings, etc. Granted, in two or three feet of snow it's the cat's meow. Then you have to move all of those vehicles anyway to clean properly. As for the bucket, I use it more in the summer. Of course many people use them to push snow, but they're not as handy as a plow for my purposes. I can "reach in" with the plow because it sits well ahead of the loader (low clearance) and pull back. Then there's the angling ability, which allows end to end plowing without windrows. When I first got it several people asked me the same question, but those who've seen it in action seem to agree it has a definite upside. Incidentally, I didn't notice the picture of NorthernMainers outfit until after my reply to him. If you're reading, NM, how does your plow work on the JD?

I've got one of those older 15.5 Dark Green Craftsman riders that just keeps going and going. Bought it used!<br>

I've had it since 2000 and have replaced a steering arm bolt and the starter cog. That's it. <br>

Not even new blades yet. It's a select drive and no new belts either. <br>

I mow 2/3's acre half of it is bare lot and rough as a cob with Sticker bushes that penetrate the turf tires. Slimed them about four years ago and all is well.<br>

I take good care of it though. Blown or hosed off every use. Lubed and oiled regularly. And Housed 24/7! <br>

Without any specifics as to what clutch issue you may be having, I can only recommend that you remove the inspection plate and check the gap between the clutch release fingers and the throwout bearing. The gap is adjusted by adjusting the length of the pull rod connecting the clutch pedal with the clutch lever. Shorten or lengthen till there's ~2mm gap between the finger tips and the bearing face.

Well I think a real simple cure if anyone is concerned about that part of it, is some stuff called "Static Cling PVC Film" that comes in differnt thicknesses and colors . I have some in Orange and it lays right over a headlight and wont come off; its just a tinted plastic film and should get around the "white or clear" part of it.;-)

Curt, be sure that when you are checking the oil level the machine is parked on a fairly flat & level surface, has the FEL and 3pth in the full down position and has been shut down for a few minutes to allow all the oil to drain back down into the sump.

If, for example, the FEL and 3pth is up a ways, the oil level would be artificially lower by the amount of volume in the lift cylinders front and back.

Also, if it's been a while, and you're going to the dealers anyways, it wouldn't be a bad idea to pick up anew filter and enough Super UDT to change the fluid completely.

i think you can still buy a complete rebuild kit from tisco'rear main seals are a little tricky they are a rope seal and should be soaked in oil prior to instalation.there is also a tool to ease instalation and to trim it to fit.any problems ask me i will try to help .i also have lots of carbs if you need one new or rebuilt

Did you drill a hole in the draw bar, or a clamp of some sort? It would make it more stable I'd think. I'm just getting ready to weld up the boom plates, after I make sure my cylinders are in the right place. Got a real deal from Cookssaw.com on all the ones I needed, $263 to my door.

I am looking at a befco T50-366 tiller for my tractor. Has anyone used a befco? Let me know what you think about the quality. I am looking at a new holdover from last year for about $1000 less than a new one. Its looks like its built but I have never used anything from this mfg.

One other thought which always stops me from overseeding in the spring is that this is the time to put down Crab Grass preventative, which stops you from seeding, and only prevents if you don't scratch the barrier. In addition scratching up the surface now will just invite lots of other weeds like dandelions. I have always thought that mid August to early September was the optimal seeding time if you had a choice. Most of my spring seeding efforts have struggled under the summer sun and had a tough go of it.

The improvement actually is quite brilliant, i have added it to my Jinma chipper. The pipe bar extending downward from the back gives a foot operated feed roller release, pressing down on it raises the feed roller manually. The clutch dog type disconnect for the feed roller doesn't work under load when you need it most. I use my improvement constantly to let the rpm's catch up and to adjust something that is not feeding quite right. This should be a factory improvement, doing away with the clutch dog disconnect would make the feed stronger. Beside the factory lever for stopping the feed roller simply doesn't work under a load. I designed mine a little differently using the same idea with the ability to adjust the whole thing upward with chain links, works flawlessly.

Lbrown59,

Please make sure that your barrel is suitable for storing diesel fuel. Many plastics dissolve when exposed to petro-chemicals.

Also check to be sure that you're not in violation of some fire code. It is generally OK to store small amounts of fuel in a garage -- but when storing larger quantities, there are regulations in place which require a METAL tank, placed a certain number of feet away from any structure.

Additional regulations may pertain, especially if your garage is attached to your home.

Please check with your local Fire Marshall. Your local codes may well differ from mine.

Any good Ag dealer will sell spray cans of stuff that is intended to coat the insides of combines to allow the material being harvested to slide along better.

Spray it into a fairly warm bucket (or blower) and the snow will slide right out as long as it's not warm sticky stuff that's been really packed in there.
