Hello Frank, yes I was nervous when I went to my mechanic. But he had no problem with it at all. In fact he asked me where I got them, I told him, and he seemed very comfortable with it. I also had another local mechanic do it also. They charge about what any tire store would for mount and balance - so by the time you get done you pay about the same as you would if you went to a big tire place. But I get to choose my own tire from a wide selection with customer statistics from the comfort of my home. No waiting for an attendant to help for hours and no limitation on brand.

Joel and I have a running battle here on the merits of a BX model SCUT. He's a good guy with lots of good advice, and I appreciate the credit he just gave "the little tractor"....but cmon Joel, the BX does not deserve to be put in the same class as a riding lawn mower :)

We're making progres though, because he actually did recommend the BX for something! I think I see Joel trading his B model for a BX! :)

I just couldn't resist having some fun with Joel, but again his advice to go for a 4X4 in a SCUT is spot on. If you go the BX model, I think you will be impressed with all the chores it can do for you...it's an amazing "little" machine....despite Joel putting it in the rding lawn mower class....I'll keep working on him :)

Chris: Unless you have already contracted with the Morton folks, go price a conventional frame building on a stem wall. Use OSB for the sheathing on the sidewalls and conventional vinyl siding and a common shingle roof. I just did this and you will be surprised at how little diference there is in the cost between the two. Insulating between 2X6 studs is so much easier than insulating a pole shed with steel siding. I used conventional barn steel installed horizontaly across the studs for an inside liner, easy as pie. Frank.

After owning my Kioti for 5 months I decided to install
the quick-connect forks.To remove the bucket and install
the forks takes just a few minutes. Talk about easy!
My son stopped by and helped me move a lot of heavy
building material in my shop. This really saves a lot of back breaking work. It will pick up 1500+ pounds with
the engine at idle. I've never operated a fork lift before but I got everything moved with no problems. I'm sure that a "real forklift" would be easier to operate, but the
Kioti worked perfectly for what I needed done. I only use forks a few times a year, so it would not be wise
for me to buy a machine that would only do one thing.
When we finished we removed the forks and put the bucket
back one.
I have about 33 hours on the tractor with no problems.
The more I use it, the more I love it!

Today MTD is more labels than listed above. Such as Troy Bilt, Cub Cadet, Yard Man, Bolens, White Outdoor, and others. It may be the only manf. Lowes sells now in mowers. kt<br>

Dummy forgot I walked by green mowers there just Friday. so guess MTD is not the only line they sell. But, I would not buy such from Lowes or other big box store.<br>

I can't recall. I'll have to look at the digger tonight to tell you for sure which pivots have bronze bushings.

ok, mine is a d-950 engine. rated at 19HP. Looking for a fast cheap replacement, I found a smaller engine on fleabay, that looks like roughly the same thing. (d600) The question for the gurus is, will the clutch/flywheel work? How about the hydralic pump? Looking for a bolt-in without a lot of fabricating going on.

Try looking at the block on the right side towards the rear just below the head or around the injection pump. Both places will be machined down flat and have a letter then #s like D700 or something like that. If not machined on the block on the right side look for raised model in the casting. A dealer should have a book that has the model of the engine for that model of tractor in it, sevice manual, quick referance book.

Frank, there is no debate. A few years back, John Deere updated and reinforced their axle housing castings because of an unacceptable failure rate. I have some pictures or the old and new updated housing along with pictures of a broken rockshaft mount. Just don't want to see anyone inadvertantly break something they don't realize may be a weak point under certain usages.

Since January 2007, on-road diesel has seen the sulphur content reduced to <15ppm. Add red dye, and you can buy it at the reduced tax rate. True off-road diesel still contains up to 500ppm sulphur no matter what color it is. It's still legal to refine/distribute/use 500ppm diesel until 2011. <br>

Don't know how applicable, or even correct this is, but it makes sense.

A friend of the family has a fleet of wreckers, mostly 1 ton units that get a lot of hard service. He said they have started swapping out air filter elements on a regular basis, they keep several per truck, and change them at the start of each shift. At first I was pretty puzzled by his comment, but the more he talked, the more it made sense, and is backed up by his 'real world' product testing.

The theory is, the combination of (intake) vacuum and snow or wet spray being pulled in, and the cold / hot cycles as the engine heats up, and then cools down after shut-down, combine to draw a lot of moisture into the air filter element. As soon as this moisture hits the magic 32� temperature all that moisture turns into ice crystals. This plugs the filter and reduces the amount of air the filter allows past it.

He says that they get, on average, based on testing they did at first, between 10% & 20% better mileage by having a clean dry filter element in the truck instead of a half frozen one.

I suspect that fact that each element is blown clean with an air hose also makes a big difference, but he swears by changing the air filter element for a dry one.

He says he has also tested (using a wood workers meter) the moisture levels in the elements before and after shifts and found a huge difference in the levels.

paul, yes the website for steiner does show the 230 model but as of my original post no new 2007/08 models of the 230 are being made. I have heard this from 3 dealers of steiners and the only new ones are the ones still sitting on dealers lots from a year ago or longer. Beware that they changed the hydraulic design and took off the acumulator to help with weight transfer, think in 2006/07 to probably save money. The hydraulics were very weak on the newer ones but the older units were fine probably 5 years old and older.

Geekfarmer; If my memory serves me correctly your 261 mower ia a rear mount Deere finish mower, yes it should handle that nicely and your four ft. box blade will work fine till you run out of traction. The front weights will make things work lots better for both the mower and the box blade. If you are happy with what the 650 does for you then that's all that really matters. Unless time is a restriction five acres of lawn isn't really that big of a deal, I used to mow 4 acres of lawn with a 345 Deere rider with a 54 inch deck at just about an acre an hour. If it is in reasonably good shape now, then with good care it should last you for years. Depemding on whether your tractor has the hydraulic circuts to handle a loader, you maybe could find a used front end loader to fit it too, that would make you a nice package. Frank.

Gondy: Are you dealing with J&R Tractor by any chance? They're good guys to deal with. And if you can get a Ford Employee Discount --jump on it! I saved over $3000 on my TC33D and $8000 on my LS185.b skid steer through them.
