I built a 708 a few years ago. I used it quite a bit the first couple of years I had it, last year I think I had it out twice to remove stumps.
Mine doesn't have hydraulic stabilizers, which would be nice; also I wish I had a narrower bucket for digging trenches for water/electrical lines.
Can't help you on resale value.
I've had good luck with mine within its limits. It isn't the same as a dedicated tractor-loader-backhoe; it is a very good alternative to a shovel and pick.

I've attached a link to the web page that documented my build; I haven't looked at the page for a long time, don't know if it all still works.

I was told that these Yanmar diesels need to crank fast, if the battery is slightly low charge that could be it. I'd also check your fuel filter, in addition I'm assuming you have the glass sediment bulb like I have on my 650. I'd guess one of the above is the problem. IF it has ran out of fuel because of a clogged filter or water in the tank, you might need to bleed out the lines... I hope you have the owners manual to show you how.

There seems to be a lot of mis-information about ZTR mowers.

First off, any decent commercial mower will cut around a tree about the same unless you are talking about skinning the bark off with the deck. In a typical landscape environment a tree has a small cultivated area around that is far larger around than the inside of the circle that the mower will cut around.

Secondly, turning anything too sharply, or too fast, or especially both at the same time, will tear up a lot of the turf you're trying to cut.

Finally, if you compare apples to apples and not oranges, same horsepower and deck size, you will see that a true hydro-stat drive ZTR is actually SLOWER than a 3 wheeler in acres cut per hour.

Purely as an example, the Ferris ProCut's (the people that invented the commercial 3 wheel rider) that we have will make a 180� turn that leaves only a few inches of uncut grass behind, and if you cut the grass as if you were plowing a field, up & down, then come back and do the 'headlands' side to side, you would need a stopwatch to calculate the time difference between them and a similar ZTR in an average landscape setting.

I do not know if you can even find NON Round up ready seed around here. I used a pre-emergent last year on soybeans for the first time in years and then did follow up with Round Up later for weeds it missed. Got better results. That may be why my soybean yeild held fair for as little rain as we got. Again, thank you, Kt

I would imagine your best chance of finding some 9-1-1 out there would be at a Husky station.

I know Can. Trash (tire?) sells the regular white bottle, maybe they can order the 9-1-1 if they don't stock it.

The other trick that will help you, other than being sure to always leave the tank as close to full as possible, is to get one of those little plastic gizmos they sell for putting in snowmobile tanks to absorb the water. It's a little plastic mesh cylinder with a loop for a retainer cord that you drop into the tank.

When I first looked at this pix my old eyes saw logs in the bucket, and I wondered why are they being dumped in the snow pile? Now that I have had coffee I see that its perhaps Buzz himself in the bucket ;) Hmmmmm another case of operator error;)<br>

If you look at the Nortrac Forum it seems that most people that have bought one bought it after looking at it at a local store assembled and running. But you should check with Northern for your location. If you are not close to a store or a Northern service center that has them, IMHO I would be reluctant to go ahead with one.

I have not yet sold the machine, but spring is coming and I am about to begin listing/promoting it for sale. It's a 4wd E-Hydro machine w/the CX (heavy duty) loader. Back tires are loaded, I will be including a 3-pt post-hole digger w/12" auger and a box scraper w/the unit. Also have a (bobcat-style) removable tooth bar for the bucket. The unit has barely over 100 hrs on it. I'd like to get $18,500 but am (somewhat) negotiable. Also willing to work out delivery within a reasonable distance from springfield mass. - edp

Ok I put the white stuff from my strainers in a teapspoon and heated it, it melts and it smells like plastic. I guess after spending 7 hours on flushing this yesterday it is pretty impossible to get that stuff out. Now I know what it is. Is it a health hazard ? Can't be good for you. Since it is caught in the strainers it is contaminating the drinking water :(

I haven't gone ahead with this yet, the new Blackjack 2 and other phones are now having GPS built into them. The new version of Google Maps for Mobile has a myLocation feature that lets you know where you are. Though the carriers are trying to lock the GPS into their own direction services.<br>

Supposedly Google Maps Beta for Mobile can do positioning by either GPS or by approximating your location by the Cell Tower you are using. Very cool but the cell tower thing does not work for my Blackjack 1, and I read that the GPS in BJ 2 does not work with the Beta version of Google Maps.<br>

If the myLocation feature does not work on your phone Google Maps Beta is harder to use since the only way you can locate anything on the map is to use the "Directions" menu item forcing you to put in the same zip code twice for the from and to destinations when you really just want a map of Chicago. This gets worse when you travel as you don''t know zip codes and you have to type Shaboggginviloral illinois twice ;)<br>

I do believe that the cell phone GPS has to be the best approach when you are traveling, less stuff to carry.<br>

With text to voice capability on a phone with a handsfree would that be good enough without looking at the small screen in the phone?

Murf, as to the higher cost of the water compared to soft drink, I think that is to a big part related to shipping. The water is often not bottled locally as they try to keep the same taste and there is no flavors added to it so you taste the water only. Where as the soft drinks have so many different items added that affect the flavor or covers up the water's true taste they bottle that locally. Years ago I traveled to Wilmington NC often and here would drink Pepsi and there would drink Coke because it tasted more like our Pepsi than did their's due to the water used.

Now to fountain drinks and the water they use...wonder what kind of filter system the small stores use? kt
