I worked for Home Depot in the tool rental department. The company purchased a self-powered Bearcat chipper for rental. I have to say that we spent more time working on that chipper than we did renting it. We had trouble with the flywheel coming off and the bearings on the shaft that carry the flails wore out several times within the 18 months that we had it for rent.

Tractor-1,

I don't know who would be able to make use of a 48" rear finish mower these days. Most compact tractors are able to handle mowers at least 5 feet wide.

You'll have to find someone who owns a much older model.....possibly a B6200? I have no idea how long it's been since Kubota made that model, but I believe they were made in the mid to late 80s.

The new Cub Cadet line of tractors is going to be manufactured in the U.S. (Georgia) with most parts being made right here in the U.S.

True...the new Cub Cadet line of tractors will be made by Yanmar, but in plants located in Adairsville, Georgia, and by American workers.

Cub Cadet / Yanmar announced recently that a new engine plant was being added to the tractor manufacturing plant already in operation. Yanmar is planning to produce over 100,000 diesel engines per year in the new Georgia plant, for equipment that will be sold and used right here in the U.S.A. (The new plant should be opening soon, if not already. Scheduled to open in November of 2007)

It's a bit hard to swallow.......but if you want a U.S. made tractor, we'll now have to look to the Cub Cadet / Yanmar line......and it's a GOOD ONE!

See the thread on this board dedicated to the new Cub Cadet Ex3200. Better yet, go check one out and then get a price quote! The price makes it even better!

John Deere is now marketing a Jensen Heavy Duty head unit that retails for around $170 - $185. The head unit itself is a little smaller than a postcard in size is flush mount has I believe (2) weatherbands and all of the hookups for MP3 players speakers etc., it is a really neat unit and is at least worth taking a look at.

The 2520 compact uses category 1 implements, first thing I would take a close look at is the lower three point arms to be certain they have been installed in the correct position from the factory if one side is on backward it could cause the hitch to bind and not allow the blade to drop all the way, next thing to do would be to adjust your top link longer to allow the blade to make contact with the ground. The the draft control knob below the seat only opens and closes the valve the controls the rate of drop on the implement not the depth.

I work in sales for a Deere dealer, we sold a 2006 JD 790 this past summer that was traded in with 15 hours on it, 300 loader and backhoe. The tractor looked like the day we delivered it. We sold it for $18,500.

I know you came here for one piece of advice... and you might not end up with a real direct answer. I'm afraid I wouldn't recomennd a garden tractor to anybody except a home owner with say, a half acre lot... because... I think that with your wooded area, and a full acre to contend with, you would probably out grow the little guy. Or, even if you didnt, you may never get to the jobs a larger machine would let you get to.
My only direct sugestion would be, when looking around, look a little harder at machines with a catagory 1 3 point hitch. This will buy you more possibilities (outside of mowing) in the future.

I don't know what your cables look like but if they are the commonly called "push-pull" type, it's fairly easy to have them custom made. I did it for my bobcat and was pleasantly surprised of the relatively low cost, which is about the same or less than an OEM part.

Just do a google search for "custom push-pull cable". Before they can make it for you, you will be asked things like:
what kind of ends do you want on the cable,
total length;
length of push and pull;
what duty type--low, medium, heavy, extreme;
gas, oil and solvent resistance required yes no?
minimum radius that it may need to bend around, etc.

It's not that big of deal.

I dealt with a company in California and even spoke tot e owner of the company who was the same guy who made them up. Took about a week to get them. Sorry but I don't remember who it was :(

That was strange. I used ImageShack to reduce the size and create an image for "forums". From there I pasted it into the picture link box here. I always check for the double http// as I do this quite often and many places that occurs. When I first posted the picture, I had the small one and the large one, not sure if you edited that out.

Used a putty knife to gain a little head room then tapped a cats claw under it and pried the nails right up and out with the cats claw.

This conversation finally prompted me to compare the stats from my 4 year old 4115 and the newer 2520.

Near as I can tell they really are twins. Even though the 2520 is listed at 26.5 hp and the 4115 at 24 hp, they are listed at 20.5 and 20 hp at the PTO. Dead heat.

The wheel base shows 1/2 inch difference, the base weights are about 90 pounds apart and your fuel tank holds a couple gallons more.

The rest of the numbers are just a reprint from the earlier model. FEL, hydraulic pressure, three point lift numbers, tire sizes, etc are all identical.

I installed a factory-supplied PS kit on my new Yanmar 30 years ago, and it's been the only part of the tractor that's been trouble -- one thing after another, including the repeated breaking of major front-end parts.

I'm sorry to hear the bad news. Hopefully you'll be able to find another engine for your machine.

You're not the first person to report having problems with the electrical system in the New Holland tractors, of all models.

Seems to me that I've heard few complaints with the New Holland tractors, but for the electrical problems. You're the first person I've heard from who lost an engine, especially with so few hours on it.
