OK....I did what I should have done before I posted this question...and that was check the wire connection to the sensor. It had jiggled loose. Crimped a new connector on it and guess what? The temperature gauge now works!

I had considered that the connection had come loose at the gauge end, but that appeared to be a bit difficult to get to. But had not even considered that it could have come loose at the sensor end, which is probably more likley.

Problem solved.

I am looking at a 3130 HST with a backhoe of 2005 vintage with 670 hrs. It has what appears to be a factory backhoe and frontloader and an accessory scraper implement. It is priced at $17,000 from a private party. What do you think?

I want to say it's called a "safety module". Cost about $53 if I recall correctly. It's about 1.5" x 1" x .75 or there abouts. Mine's packed away until I get a "Round Tuit"

Yes Shan, tires are extra, though you can't buy it unless you buy them from the dealer.

The only time this can change somewhat is if you buy off the dealer lot---but they will still fold in the original cost of the tires the dealer paid for. Then they will add or subtract your tire choice, if available---sometimes they'll switch rims and tires with another on the lot. But not always.

If you're in Canada, eh? have you looked at buying across the border. I'm across the river from Windsor. Your media has been playing up the fact that even though the Canadian dollar is at par or higher than the US dollar, Canadian goods still cost much more.

I amire you. I started off looking at the 7800 (for the mid PTO) then kind of looked at the 3030. My local dealer told me that was my options for a 30hp mid PTO Kubota. I stopped by a different dealer that had the 7800 and 3030 in stock.

He was so wonderful. Turns out the GL3240 (all grand Ls) have an option of a mid PTO. This wonderful guy was able to help me spend that extra money I didn't know what to do with. Well I haven't bought it yet, I figure the tax refund will pay for the extra tractor.

I'm sure you will love the 3030, I know I would have.

Mobilus you can always use a non-powered hydraulic top link setup like I used to have before I installed the rear remotes.

The B-series tractors are just that, a tractor... albeit the smallest that I would personally ever consider a tractor and not an oversized lawn mower. <br>

When my dad bought a L175 Kubota back in 1978, we were very impressed with the capability for its size. He sold it back around 1993 or so and actually cried when the trailer pulled away. It was that good. <br>

When I bought my L2800, I sat on and drove just about every brand available. For my needs, and with the budget I had, the Kubota just had more to offer. And I like steel. As in hoods and fenders. I think that plastic and fiberglass belong in sports cars.<br>

So, when my dad drove mine, he had to get his own. But he wanted just a little smaller tractor. So we went through all the specs and sat on a lot of brands. The B7510 was his first choice, but I soon had him convinced he needed the B7800 for the extra horses. Quite a difference. <br>

Abd like Joel said, the B and L series tractors are not fancy in that they are just straight, simple tractors that deliver. Oh, and they do have can holders...or cup holders if you're up early enough for coffee!<br>

Had to reserrect this old thread.

Selenoid on mine gave me a ass ache today. Usually wiggle the relay it would pull in. Of course it was parked 10 inches away from the wood pile. I looked like a monkey on a football getting the selenoid out so tractor would start so I could get it up by shop.

The selenoid had some oil in it but I can not believe there was enough to bother. But something prevented it from pulling in.

Did the selenoids get redesigned? Any other issues out there related?

Thanks for the info. One advantage of the core aerator-drum style, is that I could weld a hitch to this, and pull it behind my 1951 willys jeep. The tractor is very handy, but sometimes the smooth ride of the jeep is more fun when you have lots to do.

In response to DennisCTB, about whether I even NEED chains with my B7800, you have a point-I don't know for sure. That is why I was so interested in this great discussion. I think it is the picture in my mind of my tractor stuck down in the big dip in my drive with no way to get up or down that made me think I should spend a few bucks on 'insurance'.
( I like the idea of 'crabbing' by using the FEL to pull the tractor body along - not sure I would have thought of that but I sure will remember it!).
I slso like the idea of using radial winter tires. I use them on my car and they are remarkable. I will have to check to see if I can find anything that would work on those large rear tractor wheels.

Murf, do you keep a separate set of wheels and tires ready for the winter, and just take off the 'summer' wheels and put on the winter ones? Did you find some kind of wheel with the right bolt pattern or use extra tractor wheels? Or do you mount the winter tires on your existing wheels?

I think that Murf hit it on the head when he said,
"if you don't feel comfortable doing it, then don't do it." If you do not have the experience, then reading these post will only be a part of it. When you are on that seat, and are facing down that slope, your mind will be wondering in all directions at that moment. And as stated, your mind must be 100% on the job at hand, and feel comfortable doing it. It is very hard not to push in your clutch when you start to slide, because you will do it out of habit. Your training, or experience must kick in, and not your reactions. I have turned down jobs because I was not willing to do something that I was not comfortable with, or that I did not have the proper equipment to do. Your first job in safety should be to return home the way you left that morning.

Thanks to Murf, Greg and Kleinchris. Just wanted to make sure there was no simple answer to solving this problem.
Yes Greg the first place to look is under the cover which is what I finally did.

I also removed the cover on the other side so that I could see what was actually happening. Well I was right I could move the lever into 2 and 4WD but the gear in the dog clutch did not fully come out. On closer inspection the fork appeared to be bent. So out it came heated with gas and bent back into place. Replaced the fork and plate and from the otherside I could see that there was a 3mm clearance.
The tractor now goes between 2 - 4 WD easily. When going into 4th I move slowly forward with light pressure, and I find it much easier going back into 2WD by making the tractor move in reverse.

Thanks mates for your suggestions and sorry for the late response. Greg, I had all 4 wheels off the ground and when in gear all wheels moved.
