There are several possibilities to explore here.

First off, is this tractor new, or used? If used, how many hours show on the meter?

If this is a used machine, we might be able to solve your problems quite easily. If it's a new machine, we would probably take a different approach to the problem.

First things first.........

Check the power plant. Make sure the engine is performing at full capacity. Clean or replace the air filter, fuel filter, and maybe even drain out the old diesel fuel and replace it with a fresh batch. Old fuel can be a BIG problem in diesel engines........ causing much bigger problems than would old gasoline.

Once you are satisfied that the engine is performing properly, we would then go to the hydraulic system.

In your case, I'm almost certain that your problem is engine related. Get the engine running properly, and I believe all of your troubles will go away.

I believe either tractor will suit you just fine, but I also believe that you'll regret not having the mid-mount PTO shaft, should you opt for a tractor without one.

Your driveway is quite long. Unless you were planning on getting rid of the pickup and plow, you might want to stick with that combination.

Use the tractor only on those days when you receive exceptionally heavy amounts of snowfall. The reason I make this suggestion is only because your pickup keeps you out of the weather, and unless you plan on getting a cab for your tractor, your pickup offers much better comfort (as well as heat) when clearing the driveway.

No matter which tractor you end up with, I'm confident that you've picked a couple of winners. Either tractor will do just fine for what you have in mind.

For what ever reason, that chain in question, lol, wont fit back on the sprocket, it came loose after heavy use this weekend and it does not seat anymore. I was in a hurry, pressed for time against the weather and a long road trip so I put on the new chain. I dont even want to look closer at it for I feel I think I know what happened. It went into the scrap bin this afternoon anfdd for a lousy 22 bucks, I baought a new replacement! Now I dont ever need to look at, or think about that fiasco!

Scotty, I was looking at the BX24 and came close to buying it. Then I went to the cub cadet dealer and looked at the new yanmar tractor and thought for the money I can't go wrong. At first I thought it was too much machine for me. It's called a compact but it's larger than the b series Kubotas. Now that I have it I'm satified I made the right move. Just thought I mention it. just joined in hopes someone can help me. am looking for a waterpump for a Hinomoto C-144. was told to take it to a NAPA and they would send for rebuild. no such luck around here. have e-mailed a couple import dealers and waiting to hear back. thought someone here may have some ideas!

Thanks for the info. I did read the negatives on the lighter weight loader, and am just starting the dialogue with the JD dealer. I may focus on the tractor and loader and maybe bush hog now and try to get the rest of the implements used at a later date.

no it was definately an internal engine noise, im not a mechanic but sounded to me like it blew the engine, which is why i imediately parked the tractor. just hope i never hear it again, thanks

The main reason the engine is shut off is not so much because of the nuts outside the plane, as for cleanliness, the Beechcraft Model 18 (often called the Twin Beech) was powered by a pair of Pratt & Whitney Wasp Junior engines which are notorious for barfing oil out the back end of them.

Those nuts wear gear that is probably worth $5,000, possibly a lot more, they don't want it (or them) covered in oil.

The picture below shows how they 'normally' do it, if climbing out of a perfectly good aircraft can be called 'normal' that is.

The reason for hanging off the aircraft like this is so that they can all let go at exactly the same moment, rather than trying to all race out the door, in order to link up together into a formation on the way down.

Thank, Joe, KTom,HW. The past month, I learn lot from local farmers and become more and more familiar with this piece of property.
Something I did or hire local farmer did:
1. Brush hog 16 arces.
2. Open a 600ft road about 17-18 feet wide from road to open field.
3. Ask local farmer help me dig two 800 ft ditchs. One is 2 ft wide and the main ditch is 3.5 ft wide.
4. Visit couple local farmers. All vege growers, one is wholesale, other two are retailers.
5. Send soil samples to CPA, still waiting for the result. May need lime later.
6. Got some vege harvests from my 2000 square feet testing field.
7. Move over handred types of transplant (2 thousand ) selected hardy shrubs & perennials from my backyard to new property. Will watch how many of them can pass the winter on this open field.

The fact I learned:
1. The black dirt is very shallow, 1.5 feet most of place, some spots are little more than 2. It is not suitable for serious commercial grow. That is one of the reason why no real farmer interesting. But it is OK to me.
2. under black dirt is clay, grey color, poor to drain. Good for pond. :-)
3. wild animal is not a very serious problem, if the field is open.
4. Not enough time for me to do everything myself, learned how to hire people do something for me.

Joe and Tom: The local farmers told me it is too hard to control weeds on black dirt here, round-up is must. Especially at beginning. I will leave about 1.5 acre separate piece for future organic testing area to compare.

HW, I will hire local farmer to use 5 bottom big plow to break land for me. I will use my plow for smaller project later. I will not disk it until next spring. Let winter help me do the job first.

That is very typical with new lawns. If the weeds are of the broad leaf variety you should be able to spray them or if you fertilize and water heavily while cutting the lawn taller, the grass will also choke some of them out.

Every time you stir the soil, new weed seeds will germinate. You may also see a decline in the weed population the 2nd year if you stop the weeds from going to seed.

A rototiller is a good method to break up the soil and start over, but as I've mentioned the weeds may also re-start.

If you do a search on "manual" you will find some info. There was a guy with handle "Bill Rodgers" that claimed he could supply manuals for Mitsubishi/Satoh tractors at 800-609-5110. Maybe he is still in the business.

Dennis; I'm going to take some better ones and re post them later. I haven't got things completely arranged and wired inside yet, and still the elevator to build.
