I have removed the lower radiator hose and the 4 bolts from the front engine pully that bold the hydraulic pump drive shaft to it. Does this flange and shaft slide forward enough to get the belt between them? Or do you have to pull the hydraulic pump to get the needed room? This machine is a Massey Ferguson 3165 backhoe with loader on the front and I am hoping not to have to drain the hydraulic system and pull this pump in order to change the belt.

I believe Nortrak is Northern Tool and Equipment's tractor that they purchase from Jinma. Expect to double your price going to a Kioti (or close to it). I don't know about the Kioti quality, but I would go back to you get what you pay for. I did have a face to face conversation with the owner of Ag-King which is a advertiser on this site. Ag King does the same thing with Jinma's- orders them from the factory, they arive in Dodd City in a crate with "Ag-King" decals to slap on the tractor. This owner actually talked me out of one of his tractors after I told him what I wanted to do with it. His reasoning was that the Jinma's will perform okay for light duty use. He was planning on living at his dealership/ house for quite a while and he didn't want to sell me a tractor only to have me bug him every month for another broken part. Nicest guy in the world... and when I am ready to buy again I will return to his place to see what else he has. For those of you who dont know where Dodd City is, well, it's north east of Bonham... duh.

In tractors FWD generally means 4WD. It's not as sophisticated a system as on 4WD trucks but all four wheels pull.

Working on your own isn't rocket science. Of course you need the skills, tools and documentation to do the job. Simple jobs are easy, bigger jobs may well require specialized tools or equipment. To me the key would be getting the factory technical manual. JD's manuals are very detailed (and expensive) not sure about other brands.

Rebuild hours depends on so many variables it's hard to give a canned answer. A diesel engine that runs for hours and hours without being shut off may be be in far better shape than one that is constantly started cold and run for short periods. Most homeowners probably are in the latter category. As a guess maybe an "average" rebuild time would be 5000 hours with a standard deviation of 3000 hours.

Probably one overlooked and expensive "gotcha" would be non-obvious structural damage, like a racked loader (out of square) or cracked axle housing.

Not familar with your machine but dumb question: yo have checked the fuel level, right?

And is there possibly a low-oil sensor that works when the engine tips too far one way or another?

I cant suggest a specific method for your tractor, but I do think that if you are looking into the tractor anyway, you might be smarter to plan on spending the money on the tractor for snow removal rather than the F-150. That is, if you can bear throught the cold temps. A plow for the tractor is going to cost roughly the same as a plow for the truck, give or take a few hundred. I have done a bunch of plowing with F-150 and though most of the time the truck performed well, occasionally, after a big storm, I was asking that truck to do an awful lot of work which it wasnt built to do. Unfortunately, I have not actually plowed snow with a CUT, but it something I am working toward-(getting a tractor with a nice plow.)

I would be looking for something that might have killed your last battery and is giving you the problem now. I like both those paths you suggested- could you take the battery off the vehicle you used for the jump start to see if it will run the tractor for a little bit?

Actually, I sold one of my Chinese tractors for exactly what I paid for it, and actually made money on another. What you need to be a Chinese tractor owner is an open mind, an above average mechanical aptitude, and a good metric tool set. (Competent dealer support is a good substitute if you're lacking in the last two). These are for the most part 50s and 60s technology machines, not too much on them you can't fix yourself. Try to do all of THAT with a blue/green/orange tractor.

quick question I hope. I have a 4300 jd with a 48 backhoe attachment. The final drive broke were the two mounting bolts attach to it. Jd fixed it before under warranty. Now the warranty is out and it has happened again. Has anyone had this happen before? The dealeer said they have had it happen before and thought they would fix it. When the jd rep came out nad looked at it he won't fix it under warranty. Any info would really be appreciated it.

You can check to see how many lug nuts your wheels have. Usually the 5 lug wheels go up to 3600 lbs. If you have 6 lugs you could have a 5000 lb axle.

I use my 5 foot rotary cutter to cut over the edge of some downside slopes similar to shallow ditches. If I didn't have top-and-tilt I wouldn't even try it. With TnT I can back up to the bank, tilt the cutter down, and drop it on top of the slope to cut. Slow going and not the ideal tool for the job.

Kleinchris; I just checked the Deere website. It looks like the #48 hoe is still a current model. They show subrame kits available for 4300 thru the 4720's and also for the 5105 thru the 5403 series tractors. I did not price a three point hoe before I bought the 48, but I would assume being you aren't getting the subframe that a three point hoe would be less expensive. There has been some discussion here in the past about difficulty with the three point arms of the tractor failing to lift the hoe assembly high enough to insert the mounting pins, but I've never had that problem yet. Perhaps that is what is causing you to take more time. Ten minutes including the time for removasl of the three point hitch lower and center arms is an easy do for mouinting. Frank.

Joel, it would make a difference to your rates if the stove is an insert going into an existing fireplace or a new addition to the house. I'm sure having a wood burning appliance does increase the risk of fire by some degree.

I'll install a hearth extension for insurance purposes if necessary but it will be covered with a hearth blanket anyway for appearance sakes. Seems like a waste but the insurance company must be satisfied.

You're both correct. Purchasing something at auction can be done successfully, only when armed with a whole lot of information. It takes time to study this stuff, and well ahead of time, before committing to any major end-item.

The guy who purchased your tractor at auction probably didn't have a clue what it was actually worth. He bought it on a whim, more than likely. I can only shake my head at such people, but I'm happy you came out ahead on the deal. Every once in a while the seller should win the battle, and they often do.

The auction I provided, above, is just one example, from only one day. These tractors show up at auction nearly every day, and from nearly every area of the nation.

If a person is patient, and is armed with the information he needs, a bargain can be found at auction. It's always best to shop for a tractor, or a car, when you don't need one. As soon as you need a new tractor, or a car, the opportunity to shop for a bargain has long passed.

The man who purchased that Kubota B7500, today, got himself a real deal. Not to mention, he also picked up a brand new set of turf tires and wheels (all four) for only $275.00, along a Kubota tiller for about half price.

He walked away from that auction with a tractor, loader, mower, tiller, and a complete set of tires and wheels -- for the same amount of money most people would pay for the tractor, alone.

True, it was only one example, but I've posted many other such examples over the past weeks.

How about a 16ft flatbed trailer, with tandem axles, electric brakes, and a new jack, for just $125.00?

I bought that trailer this past March at an auction just 8 miles from me. I spent 200 dollars for tires, sanded down the deck, and then finished it with linseed oil. Looks and rolls like brand new.

I just spent three hours on mine. I'm not an expert but I like it. My neighbor who was and operating engineer for 40 years ran it for 1/2 hour and said "I like it but".... The only issue he had was that he couldn't see the bottom of the bucket. Other than that he said he buy one.I don't know any better but dosen't seem like anything I can't get used to. Good luck.

Have you checked the trailer tow fuses under the hood? Most 7 to 6 adapter can be taken apart and there is a wire that can be moved to make it work correctly.

There's nothing slicker than a hydraulic top link. You can make (or buy) one non-powered if you don't have a rear remote. That's what I did before I installed a rear remotes. All you do is get the right length hydraulic cylinder (fork lift repair shops sometimes have them for $20), weld on the right ends (from TSC), and voila!

To make a non-powered unit, envision running a line from the top of the cylinder to the bottom. If you were to actually do this, the piston would move in and out but not stay in any one position.

To provide a locking feature, install a gas- or water-service ball valve (not a gate valve) in the imaginary line between the lower and upper fittings using two shorter lines, instead of the one long one.

A plugged tee at the top and bottom fittings helps bleeding as it is very important. Otherwise it becomes a shock absorber and will be very "limp" when you use the hitch. To use it, simply open the valve, lift the 3pt to the desired position, close the valve and yer off! With a little forethought, you can locate the valve close to the operator seat so you can adjust it on the fly.

I use my box scraper a lot but sometimes it leaves windrows. No problem. Raise the hitch, open and keep open the valve and go. Now, with higher speeds when the bacl of the tilted scraper, when it hits the windrows the material blasts away the rows. And because it is running "limp" at the top there's no danger of hitting a solid obstruction and it follows the curvature of the land.
