A backhoe is not going float. But a 10-14,000 lb. excavator will. The excavator will be able to dig and throw the material anywhere around you you wish. I rented one (Cat 330c) that had a 35' reach so I could dig a 3yd bucket full, spin around and literally throw it 75' from whence it came. A dozer will be slow going (been there) and you may have to winch it out of the muck.

My new 790 has been great until today, I went to start it and the battery was dead. Jumped it, it started fine, idled for a while, then, I pulled it out, and backed up about 10 foot, and it just died. Tested the battery and found it to have a dead cell. Went and got a new battery, put it in, and now it will turn over strong, but won't even attempt to start. Getting fuel, (checked from all lines up to injectors). Is there a reset or something?

Yes, the cost may have gone up in the last couple of years, mine is due here this fall so I will find out. If I recall, it was at $85 for a long time if he had to dig the lid on the 1K tank and then rose a few bucks. Given that the wife pays the bills I am unsure how much the last one was. Hope I am not in for a $400 hosing!

Thanks for the pointers, guys. I have only had that happen one time. In my case, I tried to press the check valve to open it, but the pressure was too great. The most surprising thing to me was that all four lines were that way. Since the actuators are double-acting, I figured that if the pressure was created by "settling" then only the retract side hose would have built up pressure...but both extend and retract hoses were the same.

Murf, what did you mean about cracking the lines being "illegal"?

My tractor has a �divider block for the position control valve� for the loader. The loader position control valve inlet and outlet are piped into/from this divider block. The divider block is connected in line of the discharge of the hydraulic pump. My problem is that I pulled the hydraulic hoses off without marking them and do not know which house connects to the inlet and outlet of the control valve. The Divider block has one hose on the side and one on the bottom side. There is also another port for another hose on the bottom.<br>
Any help with this would be appreciated.<br>

Ejkessler, how do you like the BH on the L2800? I'm contemplating buying it, or a used mini-excavator, in the next year.

I have really enjoyed having the L2800. Bought it in February and have around 120 hours on it. I have had a PTO engagement cable break, and I ran into a stump and replaced the left tie rod as a stupid tax. Other than that, it has been great. This is a very capable machine.

Murf, your at it all the time! There has to be a noticable leak in the valve or cylinder in order for this to be that severe.

I'm getting much more use out of the tractor than I could have imagined. NO more lifting for me! Wife has also gotten over the "why do you need it" phase. We just dropped 5 trees over the weekend and the Bearcat Chipper took care of all the limbs with ease. Overall I really like it other than the seat. I called the dealer about the replacement that was promised when I bought it and he stated they weren't in yet but would pull one from a new tractor and send it my way. Hopefully it will eliminate the sore arse from the old style.

One of the very first things I drill into new employees is that you must NEVER be in a rush getting on or off a machine, running or not!!

The only safe way to dismount a running machine is to stand, move to the far left, and then turn and step down, never jump.

By doing it this way you are a) sure that nothing got moved during the move to the left, and b) that you are facing all the controls as you dismount.

Finally, an idling tractor should always stall under the load of the parking brake properly set.

Actually Frank from an engineering point of view the 'long haul never shut down engine' is the last one to need the extra qualities of an Amsoil type of product.

That's another reason we don't bother with it.

The cold start and uneven engine temps is what demands extra protection. Our machines will often run 48 hours straight during storms, they only get shut off if there's a problem, they even get fueled while running, it's the only way to prevent the temps from spiking without the coolant circulating and the fan running.

Category 0 implements are targeted for subcompact tractors so that subcompact buyers can have a selection of implements that are smaller and lighter in weight than Category 1 implements. This enables smaller machines to perform the same tasks but at a slower rate than the larger compact tractors.

You should also note that this also means that the selection of implements available for Category 0 is also smaller than Category 1.

I'm a very fortunate man. I have a lot of friends, and most of them have been more than willing to share information and their experiences with me over the years. Of course, I always return the favor. And it helps, too, that I am always willing to learn something new every day. I make a point of it.

No....I'm not a walking encylopedia......but I usually have enough background information to rely on, so that I am able to find what I'm looking for. And a good memory helps in this department.

Truthfully ones you get the feel of the loader bucket you'll find you don't even use the indicator---sort of like not using your car's side view mirrors to make sure in the middle of your lane.

You'll find that virtually no surface you'll be working on requires the indicator because one way or another you still have to determine where/how the bucket will bite and how much. Therefore, get used to setting the bucket down, rolling it back slightly then feathering it forward which will raise the loader arms--too much arms up, tileted too much---unless you're goal is to dig down. It take a few hours to get really used to it--so don't hard on yourself if it takes longer. (My backhoe loader had one on it until a tree branch ripped it off and I haven't missed it--the indicator that is)

I was told by my dealer that the LA 463 has no quick-tach option...do you know why Kubota decided not to supply the option on this loader?

I am NOT a Deere expert at all, but I do know from speaking with a friend who has one that the dealers mechanic told him that JD has 'tweaked' some of the programming to 'fix' warranty problems they were having that were borderline abuse, not mechanical failures per se.

Amongst those mentioned was lugging a hydro, this is a killer on those machines. With an E-hydro I could see where it would be really easy to just tell the unit not to overload itself at RPM's that were too low for the power demand.

A comment like "...after the blade is full the transmission stops pulling...". a FULL box blade is a huge load, in fact probably about the biggest load that the average 3pth will ever see.

Maybe somebody else has run into this.

Every dealer is set-up different but the price you have is the whole goods price as a complete kit. To go through the parts department it would cost you about three times that amount. They still are available but in a while they might not be if they follow most companies that stop making the whole goods attachments shortly after the models are discontinued.
