I live in a rural KY area, but the location is within an hour or so of IL/IN/TN/MO/AR. The gray market behavior I've seen all too often throughout this region, is that they'll take out a short term lease on an acre or so near the edge of a population center of 75,000 or more. They'll set up shop with those 10-20 tractors you speak of. But once the inventory is depleted to what will fit on the back of a 52' flatbed, they simply disappear overnight - without bothering to leave a forwarding address.

And from what I've seen, the only thing new on the tractors of Vietnamese origin - is the paint. On some, they even painted the wiring. No extra charge for rust and filthy POLs hiding underneath.

Caveat emptor. If the seller doesn't have a long term lease in a fixed structure - with visibly operating shop facilities - get back on your horse and ride.

i HAD A 4300 AND THEY REPAIRED IT UNDER WARRANTY.WHEN I ASKED IF THEY CHANGED THE HYD FLUID THEY SAID IT WAS GOOD FOR LIKE 400 HOURS AND THE DID NOT.I PULLED FILTER OFF WHEN I BROUGHT IT HOME ANF IT WAS FULL OF METAL. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT THE GAVE ME A NEW TRACTOR..TO REPLACE MINE. NOW KEEP IN MIND JOHN DEERE DID NOT DO THESE REPAIRS THE COMPANT THAT BUILT THE TRANSMISIONS CAME BYT THE DEALERS AND DID THE REPAIRS ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER I RECIEVED MY NEW 4300 I WAS AT THE DEALER AND MY OLD TRACTOR WAS IN THERE WITH THE TRANSMISION OUT. ALSO THE FRIES ONES WERE VERY BAD TO SCUFF THE GRASS WITH THE FRONT TIRES AND I THINK LATER THEY CORECTED THAT PROBLEM I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM THE HYD MODEL 4300 IF IT WERE ME ...AS I HAD TWO. JOHN DEERE EVEN SENT COUPONS TO GET SOMETHING LIKE 2000 OFF THE OWNERS OF THEM ON A TRADE TO THE NEWER 4310. I USED MINE AND TRADED.I AM NOT BASHING OWNERS OF THE 4100 4200 4300 AND SO ON I MAY HAVE JUST RECIEVED ONE OF THE BAD ONES I AM SURE THEY WERE AND STILL ARE SOME GOOD ONES IN SERVICE. I DID BUY ONE OF THE FIRST ONES THAT AND ANYTIME YOU GET ONE OF THE FIRST I WOULD THINK YOU MAY EXPECT PROBLEMS.

Noone knows how long they will last these days of almost exact tolerances and synthetic oils. I think the engine is the last to go. And hey Murf, after 5,000 hrs isn't everyhing else on the tractor so beat up that it ain't worth fixing?? Just wondering.

Interesting horsey, I have been looking at the unit you bought (your link). Looks like a nice unit. I imagine most folks here just have experience with pto bruch choppers. I would have given my right arm for the unit you are looking at as a kid on my Dad's property.

Gatorbob,

White smoke is an indication that water has entered the combustion chamber. This is usually due to a blown head gasket.

If this is not the problem, it's possible that you have a coolant leak, and it is dripping on the exhaust manifold.

Regarding the top end of an auger bit, how many different configurations are out there? I have a frontier with a 9" auger. I'm looking to scale down to a 6". Ordering out of a catalog,(Northern Tool) how do I know the new one will fit?

Generally speaking you won't find a generator any bigger than about 3KW that produces ONLY 110 volts. Above that (some smaller) produce both 110 & 220 volts.

In basic terms a generator of that size will run only one circuit at capacity.

If the circuit it is plugged into is not isolated from everything else, it will try to power everything on that leg of the 220 service, AND will give power to half of the 220 circuits in the house too.

A 220 motor such as those on a well pump won't last very long with 100 volts on one side and not the other.

The subframe blades do not mount to the loader at all. You take the loader off the tractor, but not the loader mount brackets. Just drop the loader and install the blade.

The second type of blade mounts to the loader bucket. You would use the float position of the FEL valve to plow. It is a manual angle balde.

I'm not in too much of a hurry. I just need to sell it by the end of the year. I forgot to mention that I also have the 3 point hitch set up. I'll be happy with anything in the high teens.

I had a Grand L 4630 and hydraulic Bearcat chipper (72854) but since having kids and only being on a small piece of land it made no sense to me to buy a tractor of this size or larger again.<br>

I took into consideration the space between trees and palms in my yard and the B3030 was the choice when it came to spacing and operating issues.<br>

I went with the quick attach 54" bucket, forks, and chipper /shredder. So after going through a few hurricanes and the upkeep associated with South Florida's tropical climate and plant growth rate it made more and more sense to get some sort of unit.<br>

I was prepared to go larger but in the end I believe this is the right choice to maintain a 1.5 acre piece of land. I should take delievery before Sept. 1 <br>

Yes, Boulter is one of the local population centres, a few dozen people. Fort Stewart is actually closer, but we say we are in Boulter.

I am not married to the idea of a new 4WD tractor, so certainly your suggestion of a used agricultural 2WD tractor is still in contention. I figure I have 6 months or a year to raise the funds and understand all the issues.

Back to my regularly scheduled reading in the archives ...
