MIAMI - A Florida man stockpiled 20,000 cubic yards of horse manure on his property and was charged with running an illegal composting operation, environmental regulators said Wednesday.

Neighbors complained about the odor wafting from Walter Duque's property in the rural community of Loxahatchee, where several acres were covered with 15-foot-high manure piles, the state Department of Environmental Protection said.

Investigators suspect Duque had been accepting dump truck loads of horse manure from nearby equestrian communities in Palm Beach County, agency spokesman Stephen Webster said.

They issued three misdemeanor citations for violations punishable by up to 18 months in jail and $30,000 in fines.

Florida requires special permits for composting and storing horse manure and regularly inspects the operations to ensure ground water is not polluted, Webster said.

We are considering some tree removal that would leave stumps up to about 20 inches. They would be pine, sweet gum and other hardwoods. Many of these stumps will be in piles of dirt from a pond. Those piles of dirt will be removed to orginial grade or very close (they are about 7 feet high). The dirt is a good soil for digging not being gumbo clay or rocks. There could be 100 (rough guess) or so stumps from 12 to 20 inch size and another 100 from 4 inches to that size. Will have about 5 years from time of cutting the trees to when the stumps must be out and dirt moved. <br>

Bringing in contractor with large equipment is an option but the equipment will be running across a yard and over roots of trees we want to keep (large oaks). The dirt will not be move far but too far to just push with a dozier plus the damage it would do to tree roots. The amount of yard that would damaged is not large enough to be a problem, other than it is a slope above a pond and do not want any washing into the pond. Have also considered renting or buying of used equipment for the work.<br>

My questions are how do you compare the size of TLB to an excavator for the digging? A 6 to 7,000 pound excavator is the size recommended so far. I like the concept of the excavator and dump trailer over TLB if for no other reason than the weight difference when moving the dirt. <br>

I saw that Greg, but I meant more along the lines of the size of the machine relative to the amount of horsepower. Not the physical size of the tractor itself.

For instance, a Kubota (only using the reference because I'm most familiar with them) L2800 and a B7800 are the same horsepower, but very different in size.

Just trying to point out that there are lots of options to this newcomer.

I have a JD755 with Yanmar 3cyl, 17HP engine. Engine equipped with inline fuel pump and solenoid linkage. The fuel pump runs, but on starting, the solenoid linkage snaps shut and the 10A fuse blows (maybe it's the other way around). In any event, as long as I do not engage the starter, the pump continues clicking. I changed the fuel filter to rule out excess current draw caused by a clogged filter. The engine first quit as I was replacing the left (looking from driver's seat) engine shroud (coincidence maybe?). Obviously, the hot wire from the battery runs right near the shroud, but I can't find any damaged insulation. Any thoughts y'all. I would appreciate any help you can provide.

My tree spades work because of 2 things in their favour.

First, they're heavy, REALLY heavy, so the blade goes down instead of the spade going up.

Secondly, the spades do not move all at once, each of 4 spades moves independent of the others, once a single spade is in the ground, it sort of anchors the rest of the unit. Often, usually in dry ground, we have to try different spades to see which one wants to go down the easiest, once that one is in it adds enough resistance to allow the others to go down.

I wonder at your choice of putting it on the 3pth though, IMHO they are much easier on the FEL. My 43" spade only weighs about 2,000 pounds, and with the root ball, a little under 3,500 pounds. With the down-force on the FEL it never has an issue.

If you have not already chosen a spade the manufacturer has a lot to do with it too, ours are made by a local company and have a special hydraulic circuit that locks the spade against the upper link to basically lock the 3pth in the down position. In order to raise the 3pth mounted spade, it has lift the whole rear end of the tractor too.

My JD 755 has an oil leak on the front axle, it appears to be coming from around the wheel hub on one side. I'm guessing there is a seal or seals there where the shaft exits the axle housing. Can anyone advise me what I'm likley to find there when I strip it down and tell me if a reasonably competant DIY'er can change them? Any advice much appreciated.

No rear port on the tractor now. all of the hydraulics for the 3pt are internal. nothing to tap into there. It seems as though it would have plenty of flow if you look at the speed that the loader goes up and down. I know that the volume of 2 2" cylinders is not that of a 4", but I'm running the splitter off of my 154 loboy with no trouble. Maybe a power beyond at the loader line? I've seen the exploded view of the aux valve assy, and it has 3 ports built into the system. If I knew which of the three ports was supply, return, etc, I would tap into the side of the rear end where the aux valve mounts and plumb to a valve like they carry at surpluscenter or the local supply house.
Being a machinist by trade I'm not afraid to build my own or adapt something. I just thought that the salvage yard has been a cheap out for parts in the past. None of them in my area carry compact tractors though. Where do these things go when they poop out? Thanks for the replies. Denny

I'm with Joel's reply. In addition, if it is fluid-level related you will likely ruin the pump for the loader which is probably separate from the 3-pth pump, but they may use the same fluid reservoir--but not always; my buddy has a 1969 Ford 2000 with a factory loader. The loader uses the framework (tubing) of the loader itself as a reservoir. The pump for the loader is located on the front of the engine under the radiator. So I'd stop using the machine, and inspect the loader frame for a "reservoir" and a filler plug that looks out of place comapred to seeing it on a tank or reservoir.

massey 35 leaking oil from weephole.i split tractor in half and am trying to remove the main drive gear(clutch shaft) and can pull it out about 2 inches.does the pto shaft need to be removed to get this out

Hey, wait a second... that' my tractor he's talking about! How does he know all that stuff? However, buyer beware! I broke a hydraulic fitting about three months ago and since then it has sealed itself... but it will come back. And I'm not telling you people which one it was.

Ok, I understand the problem now. Engaging the front diff with that lever is no different than engaging the diff lock. The wheels must make sometimes as much as one quarter revolution before the respective engagements take place.

So yes, engage the front diff with the 2wd/4wd select left while the tractor is moving slowly in either direction. It's permissible to turn the steering wheel while doing this. When engaging the diff lock though, it's important to keep the tractor moving in a straight line - or driveline damage could occur.

Murf i'm like you. If you treat people right you sure can get alot done with min. of people. It doesn't always have to be with money, just a pat on the back, a good job you guys, or how's the wife and kids doing. Things like that go along way. I bet you don't have guys working harder too not work, then getting in there and getting the job done.
