Thanks for the kind words.

I'm going to start off by saying that while I do have a heap of experience with Orange paint, I wouldn't even want to try to take a stab at prices for a) used stuff (I don't buy it and rarelyt sell it), or b) prices in your area.

I do know that there can be some pretty wild swings in prices regionally.

Art can give you a MUCH better idea on that stuff.

Having said that, I can tell you this;

The ZD18 is a good dependable rig, which in this area, and with a zillion more hours, would go for a bunch of bucks more than that.

The little 3 cyl. engine is a nice unit, smooth, will run for ever and probably never need a repair in your lifetime.

Which deck does it have on it, the 54" or the 60"? The 54" will do abetter job if the turf gets shaggy, but if it's kept groomed, the 60" will be just fine. IT's a little lacking on power for my liking, but in your absense of hills you should be Ok with it.

It certainly can clip a lot of turf in short order.

From a personal point of view, I like the seat suspension on the ZD's the best of any I've tried so far.

Sometimes I wonder if we wouldn't be better off using our God-given fists to resolve our disputes -- rather than this "more civilized" form of litigation.

Of course, I choose to live in one of the least populated places in the U.S., for just this reason. Civilization rubs me the wrong way.

I can't think of a single reason to ever live with 100 miles of any major city.

If your tractor was imported without a ROPS installed, then you may be forced to make one entirely on your own. Civilization (which includes lawyers) is forcing us back in time, when every man was forced to build everything he needed in his own shop.

I firmly believe that high trees and long ropes are not utilized to their fullest extent in this country any longer.

OK....There's my rant for today.

I'm thinking of buying either a 154 cub, or a j modelcub lowboy. Did they ever make a snow plow for the 154 cub? This cub comes with a 3pt hitch good rubber no smoke runs nice $3600.Re-painted The J is mint rebuilt motor, new rubber snow plow 1pt hitch with a carry-all, all painted. $4200. Both will be used for hauling, plowing snow, garden work...Are the prices to much? Are any post hole diggers available for the J model cub? ......any help appreciated

Sorry I was only looking at page 2 of this discussion. Page 39 doesn't give tightening torgues for any of the clutch bolts but a description about taking it apart and keeping it clean.

A few more notes for you.........

While you're checking your timing, also check your spark plug gaps and your ignition points.

This is a very common problem with older gasoline engines.

Under load, your spark plug operates much differently than it does at idle. This is due to the gasoline in the cylinder, which acts much like an insulator. The gasoline makes it more difficult for the arc to jump.

If your engine runs fine at idle, but nearly dies under load, the solution could be as simple as closing the gap on the spark plug just a little bit.

I wish I had a book to tell you exactly how to set the spark plug gap, points, and timing marks. Maybe somebody here can help you with this information. If not, your local IH dealer's service center might be able to help you.

My best thoughts on gear to hydro and hydro to gear.

Pto, loader, direction change, hydro one size larger tractor then gear!

Deep tillage, plowing, ground engaging, hydro one tractor size smaller.

Way to move the largest possible load with out wheel spin, hydro.

Mine is simple; it reflects the color of my tractor. This is the only site that I use it...not too creative...seemingly not enough time to be creative, as the father of four. I grew up in the suburbs in NJ, but learned to appreciate the rural life during summer visits to my grandmother's farm, where I make my home now. It is a much different way of life for my children than what I knew as a child; but they appreciate the land and the tools that we use to take care of it, including the "blue" tractor.

You are correct that you should remove the cover under the seat. There is a lot of linkage under that cover that could have come unhooked. I would definitely recommend a repair manual since the linkage and valves that operate the rockshaft is fairly complicated on the 2010, especially if you have a "dual" rockshaft. Good Luck!

No need to go out and buy a new air compressor. Just about any dentist in your area will have a used air compressor sitting in the basement, crawl space, or their home garage. You can pick one up from almost any dentist for almost nothing. Every dental office uses compressed air for their dental drills.

These little dental compressors aren't suitable for use with heavy duty air tools, (not enough cubic feet per minute, and not enough air pressure) but they work just fine for inflating tires and blowing out your radiator, air filters, etc.

If you replaced the thermostat on your Bronco, then you can easily replace one on your tractor. It's not a difficult job. The hardest part about this is to make sure your cooling system is full and circulating. It can sometimes be a chore to get rid of all the air trapped in the system.

I can't help you with a part number for a U.S. compatible thermostat, but if you take it to your local auto parts dealer, they can usually measure the diameter and find you a suitable replacement. The most important thing is to find one with the same temperature rating. You shouldn't have a difficult time finding one. A replacement thermostat gasket might be a bigger problem for you. Save your old one. Take good care not to damage it when you remove it. It is possible to make a new gasket from scratch, provided you have a pattern to go by, and a good, sharp, utility knife. Bulk gasket material is also available at your local auto parts dealer.

Avoid using silicone or RTV sealants, as these can end up in your cooling system, plugging your radiator, or your thermostat.

dlatham: Not 'zactly sure what the rules are on contacting for sale, but I'm pretty sure I can't sell to you thru this forum.

The unit has 172 hrs on it currently. Serviced at 50 and 150 hrs. Not sure what else you want to know.

Skid steer tractors, by their very nature, are hard on motor mounts. Many people routinely lift the front tires off the ground when using the loader bucket for scraping driveways and parking lots, such as when pushing snow.

When the front wheels come back down.....often quite hard....it delivers a shock to the engine mounts.

Getting this repaired is quite critical. If you allow the engine to vibrate for too long, you'll soon have cracked or broken hydraulic lines, fuel lines, etc.
