Markpee; I also find the sight glass gauge for the trans/hyd fluid kind of a Mickey Mouse affair. If the fluid had a bit more color it would be easier to judge whether you are seeing an empty glass or fluid in the glass. also it seems that if you don't park the tractor on the same spot every time you check the level it will be different too. I don't know if the new series are the same, but a good old fashond dipstick sure would be nice. Frank.

One more thing to keep in mind...........

If you do run transmission fluid into the cylinders, it will certainly clean up your engine for you.....and it will do a danged good job of it.

However, all of the sludge that has built up in your engine over the years will instantly clog your engine's oil filter. If you run your engine for even five minutes afterward, you could possibly starve your engine of needed oil, which will quickly destroy it.

Be sure to check your engine's oil filter after adding any engine cleaner, or transmission fluid. A visual inspection is sufficient. If you see gobs of mud and sludge in the filter, you will have to replace the oil filter, and probably several new filters in succession.

Cheapy oil filters (or even used filters) are fine for this work. When your filters finally appear clean, change the engine oil again and replace the cheapy with a quality filter.

Fresh manure is not only malodorous, but also very harmful to your lawn and garden. The nitrogen content is far too strong, and will cause your lawn to "burn".

Manure must be aged to the point of being grey, and nearly weightless before it is any good for fertilizer.

Horse manure is not the best choice, mainly due to the fact that it takes so long to age properly.

Cow manure is much preferred because it is flat and thin, rather than in the form of balls. Cow manure is much easier to work with too, as it breaks up in the soil so much better.

If you decide to take a load of horse manure from your neighbor, plan on letting it stand for at least two years before attempting to spread it in your lawn or garden. Longer than two years is even better.

Cow manure can be tilled in the same year, so long as it has been collected from a pasture, where it has been sitting under the sun.

Never take any manure that has been cleaned from a feed lot, calving pens, or any place from which animals have been penned up in a small space; as it will be heavy with urine, and very hard to stomach for both you and your neighbors.

You are correct that you should remove the cover under the seat. There is a lot of linkage under that cover that could have come unhooked. I would definitely recommend a repair manual since the linkage and valves that operate the rockshaft is fairly complicated on the 2010, especially if you have a "dual" rockshaft. Good Luck!

Crunch reflects the fact that I have "crunched" numbers most of my career. I take databases full of numbers and extract the stories that they have hidden within. Mostly, I have a 2006 MX5000 with 4WD. I think one of the bigger things to consider is the type of tires you plan on using. I had mine equiped with the industrial tires and they just don't offer the traction that the ag tires do. Without 4WD I would not be happy with the performance of the MX5000. For a little tractor the MX5000 with 4WD is a sweet piece of equipment.

No need to go out and buy a new air compressor. Just about any dentist in your area will have a used air compressor sitting in the basement, crawl space, or their home garage. You can pick one up from almost any dentist for almost nothing. Every dental office uses compressed air for their dental drills.

These little dental compressors aren't suitable for use with heavy duty air tools, (not enough cubic feet per minute, and not enough air pressure) but they work just fine for inflating tires and blowing out your radiator, air filters, etc.

If you replaced the thermostat on your Bronco, then you can easily replace one on your tractor. It's not a difficult job. The hardest part about this is to make sure your cooling system is full and circulating. It can sometimes be a chore to get rid of all the air trapped in the system.

I can't help you with a part number for a U.S. compatible thermostat, but if you take it to your local auto parts dealer, they can usually measure the diameter and find you a suitable replacement. The most important thing is to find one with the same temperature rating. You shouldn't have a difficult time finding one. A replacement thermostat gasket might be a bigger problem for you. Save your old one. Take good care not to damage it when you remove it. It is possible to make a new gasket from scratch, provided you have a pattern to go by, and a good, sharp, utility knife. Bulk gasket material is also available at your local auto parts dealer.

Avoid using silicone or RTV sealants, as these can end up in your cooling system, plugging your radiator, or your thermostat.

The unit has 172 hrs on it currently. Serviced at 50 and 150 hrs. Not sure what else you want to know.

Skid steer tractors, by their very nature, are hard on motor mounts. Many people routinely lift the front tires off the ground when using the loader bucket for scraping driveways and parking lots, such as when pushing snow.

When the front wheels come back down.....often quite hard....it delivers a shock to the engine mounts.

Getting this repaired is quite critical. If you allow the engine to vibrate for too long, you'll soon have cracked or broken hydraulic lines, fuel lines, etc.

Joel, not to start any arguements here, but a couple of your statements seem a little less than 'right'... ;)

"The automatic transmission was never meant to be a heavy puller......." Do you know that a VERY large number of semi-trucks built today are equipped with an AUTOMATIC transmission? They are capable of as much load as any gear unit. Same goes for most off-road construction equipment, loaders, off-road dumps, especially mine pit trucks, including the worlds biggest trucks, the minig haulers, all equipped with a hydro. drive unit.

"I can honestly say that I have never tried to plow a field or do any summer fallow work with a hydro tractor. Those tractors aren't made for pulling all day long.", some of the first commercially available hydro farm tractors were the very popular Red ones, many of them are still in daily use as primary tillage machines. We had one at our farm for many years and it pulled as good (or better in certain conditions) than a gear tractor would.

In short I think it has more to do with personal preferance than suitability.

Dogbr; I'm not familliar with haw the Boomer shuttle control works, but likely pretty similar to my 4310 Deere W/12-12 Power Reverser, it has a slow/fast reaction time switch on the fender. Mine in the slow mode is also a bit too quick for my pleasure so I just kind of feather it with the clutch and don't even realize I'm doing it. I've got a tech manual for the 4310, but never took time to see if there is a fine tune adjustment for it or not. Likely someone more Boomer oriented than I can fill you in. Frank.

Did switch to rotella 15-40 since the temps have been 75 and higher. Seems to run smoother.<br>

Did see a few posts here about not using 'box store' oils. Must be a dealer. Have never had a problem using TSC oil or trans products. Everything super clean with the 300 hour service.<br>

hey chief, what do you know about Mahindra tractors? we have been looking at Kubota, thought we made up our minds, then were introduced to Mahindra. we have 400 wooded acres in the ozarks. we'll be clearing, maintaining a road, digging a basement, hauling rock to build a house.......lots of work. would love any input.

My #48 backhoe could very well be functioing in 50 years. I just hauled my 1948 Cub Farmall home today after a complete engine/transmission/brakes/steering, etc. overhaul, the paint shop is it's next stop. It's 49 years old now and should go another 49. Frank.

Proxibid is one of my favorite internet hangouts. I spend a lot of time there looking for bargains. In fact, I rarely purchase anything new anymore. Why? Some of this stuff offered at auction is brand new, without the high price tag.

No.....I don't live anywhere near the place. I'm a resident of North Dakota, and I live about 30 miles from the Canadian line. However, there is nothing that can't be shipped to me, so long as I'm willing to pay the freight. On some items, the price of the freight would greatly offset the bargain. I'm selective in what I purchase for this reason.
