1. Blades: Call Sue at Fisher-Barton/Components Plus in Wisconsin. Tell her Jeff from Earthwerks in Michigan told you to call. Website: Tracksplus.com their phone number is on there. Fisher-Barton is one of the last balde manufacturers around. They make nearly all or most of blades for OEM's and others.

2. Belt: Simply cut off the belt and take it to a good mower shop, or Tractor Supply Co (TSC) and they can measure the belt on a special belt measuring tool (don't use a tape measure yourself--you'll be off--trust me!). Be sure it's for mowers; they usually have a cloth-like coating or wrapping unlike a typical automotive belt. And they're usually wider and thicker too than a fan belt.

Depends on what kind of trouble you're trying to avoid.

At the very minimum, and it depends on the cop at the time (and of course your "standing" in the cop community if you know what I mean) you need a SMV (slow moving vehicle) triangle sign and working flashers.

There is a local guy who had a DUI and lost his license. He decided to drive his lawn tractor around downtown on the sidewalks as transportation. He was okay until he got off the sidewalk and crossed the street---then the cops got him. Then there was another guy in another farming town with a DUI. He was caught operating the big farm tractor driving on the shoulder with a six-pack between his legs. His big mistake was not pulling over---instead he let the police chase him.

Its been a few years since I asked this question. This year I purchased a gehl 5640e turbo, have only 100 hours on it, but am very impressed with the power and smoothness of this machine. It has the 82 horse deutz motor. Am now thinking about purchasing a gehl excavator a 373 with house levelling would be ideal. <br>

Sounds like the first part of the plan would be to buy/rent/hire a 4x4 backhoe for the ditching. A mini- or midi-excavator would do it too. I ran 1000 feet of 2'x3' ditch for a neighbor with a Bobcat-brand mini-excavator (just under 10,000 lb.-class) through the swamp and woods and it worked well. Be sure to get an enclosed cab 'cause the 'skeeters will eat you alive!

Is it anything like a MF 1233, or Challenger 1428 or, MF 1433, 1433V, 1440, or 1440V?

If so SurplusCenter.com has them new for $99 (items nos. 1-3003 and 1-3003-A).

You might want too look up companies that offer handicapper driving aids. I have seen extruded aluminum blocks that attach to the pedals in similar fashion to what Murf suggested.

Do your machines have telescoping and or tilting steering columns? My New Holland TC33D has both and makes it easy for my young neices (7 y.o.--with me in the seat too--and 11 y.o to drive it).

Don, you would get a great view that way but I'd look for an assistant for a few minutes and just remove the deck and have the tractor properly supported on stands or blocks and go underneath that way. To have someone else turn the knob when you can see what's happening will save a lot of work you might not need to do!

During the crop growing season farmers do get a break from normal chores and they still could be a cheap investment in doing the initial tillage work that you.

I'm happy to learn that I'm not the only person who lives in such a cold climate as we have here in northern North Dakota.

You're right, Sir. Starting any piece of equipment when the temperatures are -40, or colder, can be VERY DESTRUCTIVE.

It takes a lot of planning and preparation, with no short cuts at all, in order to keep a piece of expensive equipment operational for many years in this weather.

We even change the air in our tires twice per year. (Just kidding) With every 10 degree drop in temperature, tire pressures will fall about 1 PSI. No big deal for most people.......but our temperatures change 140-180 degrees from winter to summer. That makes for a pressure difference of 14 to 18 PSI per tire.

That's just one of many things we have to plan for up here in the great white north........as you well know.

Yep,that sounds right. I road in one of the first 50 around the chrysler track in Arizonia. I did not enjoy the ride either.

Everyone, thanks for your assistance and comment. I have chilled out about the delievery... Again i think the dealer is doing what he can. Backorder is backorder. He even called around to other dealers looking for one with no luck.

I have a Boomer 1530 and am doing some 600+hour maintenance. Has anyone replaced their power steering resevoir/filter? The manual recommends to do this, but my dealer had difficulty getting a part number (a recurring problem for Case/New Holland in my experiences) which leads me to assume that this isn't a popular filter to replace. My other alternative is just to replace the fluid and leave the existing resevoir/filter alone.

I've had to improvise diesel mufflers for my equipment. I've used regular automotive mufflers from the local muffler shop. They tend to have a vast array of them that have many sizes and lengths and purposes, and "input" and "output" configurations--like having the "in" and outs" on the same end or opposite end or offset from each other. I'd try to stay with something with roughly the same in and out inside diameters. Otherwise, you might get a deep, throaty, overly-loud sound. With permission from the shop, I'd bring your tractor to the shop and just start experimenting with different sizes with it running. Then as a favor to the shop for their time and expertise, buy it from them and have them weld the flange and/or bemd pipe for you.

Keep in mind that if you don't replicate the mounting system (spring-held, supported vs. non, etc.) you could end up breaking the block or manifold.

If the muffler body itself is in decent shape (the inside baffles are not rattling inside) you might want to "rebuild" it with new sheet metal and a MIG or wire-fed welder.
