DRankin; Yes you ae correct on using the counterballance recommendations in the owners manual for the FEL. I guess being an old timer makes me want to shoot from the hip too much of the time.
I kind of forgot about my personal contirbution of dead weight till you mentioned your 300lbs. of "Taters and Gravy", heavy shoes, hundred dollar bills, etc. I haven't calculated the percentages of my mere 280 lbs., but I think it is about 250 of "Me" and the rest is bib overalls full of enough wreches to overhaul a Buick and of course my wallet. Frank.

I have a Satoh Beaver III, S-373D (made by Mitsubishi). This is a 4 wheel drive model. <br>

My question is about how the front axles are lubricated.<br>

There are 3 plugs on the front end which appear to be for adding fluid: one on top of the left axle housing, one on the righ.t and a third on the front differential housing. <br>

What fluid should I use, and how can I tell if enough fluid is present?<br>
<br>
Can anyone recommend a good manual for routine maintenance? I have a very detailed REPAIR manual, but it's not so good for maintenance.<br>

Due to the poor availability and high cost of Mitsubishi replacement mufflers, I have been considering having a generic muffler welded to the mounting plate of my present muffler. However, since I know nothing about muffler requirements for diesel engines, I wonder if it is necessary for the muffler to provide a certain amount of back pressure for the engine to run properly.<br>

Has anyone tried substituting 3rd party mufflers on a diesel engine, and how did it work out?<br>

Can anyone recommend a commonly available muffler for a 776 CC, 16 HP, 3 cylinder diesel engine?<br>

OK then. I guess I was thinking it was like the 750/950 models.

Still I am sure it is a brake dragging, especially if it does not do it in reverse.

My 4115 has cables to actuate the parking brake, if the 955 is similar, maybe there is a cable hung up somewhere.

Frank, using the stabilizers is quick and easy. You may be right and my dealer may be screwed up but it's easy enough that I dropped it. But on your comment about taking the bolt on the seat out - my dealer moved the bolt to a different position or location so the seat can pivot differently. So I don't have to take the seat off anymore when I drop or add the backhoe. I can unhook or hook the hoses with the seat on. I'm not sure exactly what he did, I never really analyzed it - but it worked. Maybe Harvey can shed some light on this.

Businesses operate a whole lot differently today than they did just 10 years ago.

With the advanced technology we have today, dealers no longer stock most of the parts they once did. This is due to several factors, none of which is more important than taxes on inventory. Additional factors include cash flow, inventory upkeep and maintenance, inventory space, land prices, building prices, labor expenses, etc.

Excess inventory requires a lot of space, shelving, labor, etc. It also requires a tremendous amount of monetary investment. Businesses are trying hard to reduce all of these costs, and more, in an effort to compete with the cheap products produced in the developing countries of the world......such as China, India, and even Pakistan.

In an effort to reduce expenses across the board, dealers and manufacturers carry far less stock than they once did. Instead, the needed parts are made as they are needed. When you order a part today, your order is sent immediately to the manufacturer.

When you finally do get your part, you can bet that it has barely had time to cool off after being machined on the mill.

If you need a part right away, you may have to increase your own inventory. They call it "PROGRESS".......but it ain't all good.

We had it stocked with Perch fish and some big gold fish (8" ers), but there is a stork that keeps stealing them. Any ideas to prevent that?

You might want to tap the shaft forward or backward slightly as the balls may be jammed against the groove in the shaft. Might want to use a rubber mallet and hammer the side of the coupler to jar the balls loose too.

Any major brand of tractor hydraulic fluid will meet UDT specs and will say so on the label. This includes Deere and IH fluids<br>

It can be as simple as going to Walmart and checking the labels there.

The wheel base isn't quite long enough to get a 72" wide deck in between the front and rear axles. The old B-2150 which was about the same horsepower could take the 72" deck but that tractor used the basic 3030 chassis.

No i have not changed the filters I was going to at 50 hours and dealer said it was good for 400 hours and i did not. It sems to be OK today maybe it was wet from the bath inside the cab and had not dryed out. I opended the doors and let some air inside today. I think i will go ahead and change the filter od fluid anyway.

They are called a "low water crossing" here in Texas. I guess thats because you can only cross when the water is low. That was my first choice when I started planning this, and it still may be the way to go. The deal is that this creek flows medium to zero most of the time, but on rare occasion it will turn into a monster. Unless you use a lot of concrete to anchor in the culverts and road base, it can wash away. However, I am close to deciding that some culvert, covered with some rip-rap (medium size crushed rock) capped with some road base will be my choice. If it washes away, so be it. I can haul in another load of rock.

I was going to attempt that the other night but ran out of time. It looks like I'm going to have to remove the floor pan and maybe a fender in order to get a clear view of the complete adjustment dial linkage/mechanism and LH/RH mower links.

Will let you know the results.

RLS, I'm an overly fussy person when it comes to repairs and / or maintenance, a spin-off from being a pilot, it's got to be perfect or else.

If you look at my picture # ^ you will see part of my fleet, not ONE of them has a leak in the front end, and they do not run 90W diff. lube in them. Occaissionally a leak appears, and the seal is replaced right off. It's not a huge job, but it is a bit of a PITA.

I'm a little north of you still and would be concerned about the long-term effects of running heavier lube in the front end with much winter use. That fluid is isolated from the rest of the system and so is not warmed from the engine and tranny.

If anything I would investigate some sort of seal conditioner that was a) compatible with the existing lube, and b) able to seal the leak without replacing the seal before I resorted to a fluid changeover.
