Thanks for your input guys. It is a new mower and so this is uncharted territory for me. The tractor has just been used to grade the driveway and such up to this point and has had to problems. Changing ground speed did not change how fast it got hot. I'll get into it Tuesday and see what I can find. Thanks again!

Over at FarmPhoto there is an interesting discussion about the most hours you ever see on an original engine tractor. In short people say you rarely ever see more than about 20,000 hours. <br>

This seems low to me. Is it? What's the most anyone has ever seen on a deere tractor?

It is not a big deal to run 100' PE conduit and install a short post with a weatherproof outlet. You can rent a commercial edger with a new blade to dig the little trench for you, probably around thirty bucks for half a day.

Hardest part will be routing the electric from your box to the outside wall, and depending upon your circumstances, that could be a simple job as well. I hate to see extension cords used for anything other than that for which they are designed. Asking for trouble. Good luck.

Has there been a change in the steering wheel shaft cover from a two part plastic set up to a one piece rubber boot system? Is this a recall type of thing that a dealer will provide to owners with the older plastic system? Thanks.

It should have no problem. I have a TC33D with R4 and x4 and it pulled it through solid clay no problem (I was farting around to see if it would work and it did). The plow I used was an extremely old and heavy JD one made for a larger tractor as the coulter would hit the swinging draw bar under the rear axle. Had it been removed it would have worked perfect. As far as setting it up, there's not much to consider except that when it's being pulled that the plows run level and straight to the ground. And because the right wheels will be riding in the plowed area which will make the tractor sit at an angle you'll have to adjust the right link's "leveling box".

Rocks were a problem for me 12/13 years ago. Some idiot was mowing his lawn up on the shoulder of the road with the deck exit pointed at the road. He shot rocks into the side of my 1 month old pickup. A couple of inches higher and it would have been in my face. I watch for cars now and stop mowing so I can let them go by without risk of shooting debris into them.

Drankin; You would be more than welcome at the church picnic, they are usually in August, but I don't know which weekend yet. it is always a pot lock, so maybe if you brought a rattlesnake casorole, and maybe a couple baked armidillo's, us flatlanders would pig out on that and possibly we could slip some fresh sweet corn and pork loin or maybe some CORN FED roast beef on your plate you would pass out from over eating and never get to discuss pickups. Denis - I tried to sign up for premium membership but my paypal account, for whatever reason, has been cancelled. I tried as the instructions direct, tried to sign up under "don't have a Paypal account" but it wouldn't let me use my email address or credit card number that was previously used under Paypal. A bit of moisture also helps. At least it has for me with the soil that I have. With no vegetation growing, the dirt gets about rock hard on the surface. With a bit of moisture, the tines really start to work. It is supposed to rain a bit this weekend; I've been waiting all week to get out there with mine.

If you are going to be moving mulch and dirt, don't forget a toothbar. They make a big difference when trying to push into a pile. I have a 7800 with FEL/toothbar and box blade. The 7800 is not much of a digging machine, but if you have a pile to move, it is very worthy. The box blade works well as a balast, which you need if you have a bucket full of dirt, even with loaded tires. The box blade also works well if you need to scrape the ground surface to break it up, then scoop it with the FEL. There have been times when I wish I had a few more features or a little bigger model, but 90% of the time it has been perfect. Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks for all the great information, guys. The consensus seems to be that I should stay out of a tree line with a PHD on my JD 790! Since I am a firm believer in Murphy's Law, I have decided to not spring for one until I decide to fence across an open area. As usual, I have learned much.

Kotraed; Your Grand L is just a bit bigger than My 4310 Deere. I have a Deere MX 5 5ft. three pt. with a tail wheel. Depends on your needs, if you are just clipping pasture you could handle a 6 ft., if you are going out in 3ft. tall stuff then a 5ft.is big enough. The three point mowere are lots easier to back into a corner to trim up than a pull type, I haven't saw a new pull type in years, they used to be quite common before most tractors had 3 pt. hitches. The six ft. will be more clumbsy in tight quarters than the five footer, and if you have the loader off you may need a few front end weights for saftey. Far as brands go the Deere MX series, not the LX light duty series, is definetly an almost indestructible machine. Woods, Bush Hog, Land Pride, and Rhino also build good stuff, I personally am not a big fan of KK equipment, I kind of like to stay on the heavier duty side of equipment just in case that forgotten stump or rock suddenly reapears, but thats every bodys choice. I like Chevy's, you like Ford's, etc. Enjoy what you buy. Frank.

Just wanted to mention,My Kubotas'Hydraulic oil filters are Magnetized, found quite a bit of metal on first and second oil changes,not much on last one.I was told this is normal on new Tractor. Ron
