I have a farmall Cub s/n 9188. My book shows this as a 1947. The tractor is painted white on the tank and fenders and yellow everywhere else. By all appearances the tractor was never painted red. Does anyone know if IHC ever painted a 1947 cub this color? Thanks, John <br>

Interesting discussion, as a result I did some research on the web, and will no longer be using any Fram Oil Filters (i'v always thought they were good) on my equipment or vehicles. (gonna go A/C delco or Motorcraft)

As a side note I came across a web site advertising ceramic magnets to insert into a standard oil filter, the claim was it would attract metalic particals small enough to pass through the oil filter media before oil went back into the crank case,

I just finished a rebuild on the 7100 and remembered blasting metalic particals off a magnet permanately attached to the bottom of the oil pan.

I'm wondering if a magnet placed inside the return on a oil filter would accomplish what they said it would? any thoughts?

It is about a 5 hour drive from Detroit........ doing the speed limit..... ;)

First of all, Jeff is right, a manual thumb will do just fine, and in some instances better than a hydraulic one.

They are also lighter, which on a small machine is an imortant consideration.

The guy Jeff is talking about is a buddhe sells a LOT of them, they are a good well-proven unit, and very reasonably priced to boot. I'm NOT just saying that because I know him either, as a customer of his and a licenced engineer, I know the good stuff from the bad.

You do, if you are going to use a hydraulic thumb though, need a 2 way flow valve setup. The simplest method to tell, is the pedal itself. If it merely pushes down, and there is no rocker action to it, like a hydrostatic drive unit has for forward / reverse, it is a one way flow setup.

It's not always the easiest to change the sytem over, it's also NOT the cheapest to change the original valve either. Most OEM PB (Power Beyond) kits are pretty spendy. The one way kit is rather a strange setup compared to a 2 way, the return line for instance is always open, and you merely get flow or not when you actuate them, often they are not even a proportional valve, just on and off, no fade in or out. I think you will find the simplest way to do it, if that is the setup you have, will be to just add another valve downstream of what you have, a normal two way valve, and use the pressure and return lines from your existing valve to feed into it, then use new lines from it to the new 2 way cylinder.

If you are able to load test it and the equipment that would be good. As Hardwood pointed out look at the fluids for level and contamination. Also smell. You could pull air filter easy to see how that looks and such. I purchased a B2710 with HST about 5 years ago with just over 300 hours and very pleased. Paid less than 50% of brand new. kt

Art knows his equipment and is a true professional. His suggestion will work for a lot of people.

I normally run a leveling bar on my disk. If you will be using any such device you must take that into consideration. To me a lot depends on your wants and needs. You will find cutting 4 inches deep at say 3 or 4 mph on flat land to be so different than 5 mph 6 inches deep on slightly rolling land. Of course the angle the blades are set also affects. You need to know what you want the dirt to be like when you leave the field. For "my use" I rather have larger blades and more weight per blade so I can cut as deep as desired and trash. It surprises me the difference between brands of disk in how they cut and how hard they are to pull while their specs can look alike.

The size disk you looking for probably can be found in the used farmers market. If you buy any used equipment, be sure you can get the parts for it. With disk that mostly means bearings. kt

Like Harvey says as long as they're not egged out it's a fairly simple and easy thing to do. I've done mine on my backhoe and skidsteers. A little heat from a acetylene torch is required usually though I have done it without it. The alternative is using a die grinder to section it then pound out the sections. Installing takes some heat around the bushing area (not the bushing), lube and patience. Chilling or freezing the bushing helps too.

I make my own pins from hydraulic piston rod. Got that "secret" from a local hyraulic repair shop. And it's about $5-15 a foot. Cheap when you compare dealers want. Cutting is easy with a cutoff wheel or even a sawzall.

The other thing I've done when possible is use an adjustable "poor man's" in line boring bar or straight reamer available from a good tool-and-die supplier for about $50. Then I up-size the pin size.

Tried to start again. Same click. Was going to check all connections. Lifted seat and all four spade clips felt tight on the two switches? Went ahead and pulled each one off and replugged them. Tractor started. They felt firmly connected but apparently unplugging and plugging them back in done something.

I have the L2800 with R4's and love it. I was very torn though with whether or not to go with the turf's. Sometimes I wish I had. I am not slighting JD in any way, but the L2800 is hard to beat for the price by anyone. That price sounds fair.

I have a L2800 which is identical but with lower hp and I don't have any problems with the 3pt like you're describing. I would definitely pursue going higher up the ladder in Kubota to address your issue. The L series is not what I consider low end, just doesn't have as many bells ans whistles. The bells and whistles it does have are supposed to and do work fine.

Murf, now really what do you think about ZTR mowers? Don't hold back. I am LOL as I typed that. As a person who has one and really enjoys it and it has done a great job and it cuts a good bit of grass each week...I agree with all you have said about them not only in this thread but many others. They will destroy more grass than you can grow if you are not carefull. They are probably the least stable of all riding mowers on wet grass on slopes or slopes period. But used correctly they can be great. If not different story. Never riden an ATV, to me they are a lot alike...fast equals dangerous. But that is my opinion. kt

From some one who has never handled a coulter, could you not find one with the id you need and have it cut down on the OD? <br>

Another question, in my part of the world I have used a couple of different brands of bottom plows and never seen a coulter on the smaller plows. Here they disk or burn first if need be. kt

I am sure there is more than one way to fill a tire, on a tire repair I jacked up the tire, no air in it and put the antifreeze needed in it by hose and funnel. Was not bad at all. Then used water hose to fill the water. I know the tractor shop has an portable air tank with a opening they poured antifreeze in it pressurized the tank and it runs right in the tire. Other than the port to fill with antifreeze looks just like normal air tank. kt

Thanks to all. I am somewhat of an electronics guy, somewhat retired, and I will take a look at the circuit with my dusty voltmeter. I suppose I knew this was coming. I had been looking at the downloaded parts list and found that part not very clear as to what was inside the dash. Pearl diving it seems next. Will report what i find.

Not sure of the exact hours as there is no hour meter on the Foreman. I can only estimate between 75 and 100 hours maybe a little less.

That's a low end answer! Probably from someone trying not to do their job. The L-3400 is built using many parts and designs that they used in the past. Much of the Kubota line up of offering is ahead of the market so as they phase some models out they become the standard tractors of tommorow.
It is covered!!!! Now I get to see and hear about low end dealers! The tractor if within the two years should be covered other then by abuse.
