The JD 4700 book say do not use starter fluid. But the 4700 has no glow plugs (right?) and so isn't the risk of premature ignition a moot point? Used sparingly is starter fluid a real problem or just a John Deere's means of covering its derrier?<br>

I have a 4300. Last month I had the same problem, engine would crank but not start. I wore the battery down, and recharged it several times and still same problem. I noticed that the battery would self discharge after charging so I had it tested and it failed. Got a new battery - now tractor starts just fine. Have you checked the battery - is it cranking with enough VOOMA?

I traded in my BX22 last fall for a L2800 w/ FEL and BH and have been enjoying the heck out of it. I run a dog boarding/ day care business w/ 2 acre fenced pasture with a total of 4.5 acres to mow. A lot of other work with it as well. Irrigation pond maintenance, tilling, snow removal, grading, raking, post holes, trenching, seeding, fertilizing, landscaping, etc. A lot of tractor for the money and I am very satisfied. Just wanted to share my happiness.

What the heck does that mean. I often wonder this myself, often fool around with engine speed and ground speed. My B2150 actualy has four PTO speeds, my belly mower runs at the max. What is the reason for multiple speeds if you can't use them

If you have a number of them to pull, I'd suggest renting a dozer. I'd be concerned with using a backhoe and pushing it too hard causing some major damage to the tractor. I don't have the Deere model you're talking about but know if you use time and patience you can get them out.

I work around the periphery of the stump and break out the shallow root system a couple of feet from the stump and work my way around. Once complete, I start at the loosest point and begin to roll it over. That is a time consuming method of doing it, but it works without busting things.

It sure was nice in the old days when you could go to the local hardware and get a case of dynamite.

-15W40 is suitable for year round use in moderate climates. But no oil will do you any good unless it's pumped to where it's needed. That's why I suggested you clean the pump pickup. Once you get it started again, you should check the oil pressure immediately. <br>
-after 10 years, the oil pressure idiot light is probably not working. Walmart has cheap ($10) mechanical gauges that you can use to replace the OE sending unit<br>
-fuel pressure test sets for diesel engines aren't cheap, you might want to hire that done. And since it's already started, you know you have fuel delivery. I think determining oil pressure should be a higher priority.<br>
-a fuel pressure gauge on the dash is unnecessary, you'd be better off with oil pressure and coolant temp gauges<br>
-never timed my YM240, not sure it can be done without actually removing the pump. It appears to be an old-fashioned lever type pump. I'm guessing there's two levers inside, each moved up and down independently by the rotating crankshaft. Not sure if that type pump allows much latitude for adjustment.<br>
-search eBay for the specific YM240 service manuals; one for service, another for parts. Get the ones that are YM240 only, they're more informative than the ones that cover multiple models. Pricey, but money well spent<br>

I was told the way to figure horse power was to multiply the model number, first 2 by 1.25. If you take a 1610 yanmar, take the 16x1.25= 20hp. Seems to be pretty accurate and came from a guy that makes his living selling tractors. Works for me.

Hi everyone, I just bought a 1601D, with tiller, loader and backblade, 550hrs. on it, looks like new, paint, metal all seems well. I have 5 acres, need to move a little dirt for road, fill in rough areas in pasture, move a few 100lb. or so rocks and do general use with it. I paid $7500 total. I am looking for english operation manual, have manual on loader, it was new just before I bought it. tiller looks good, tines all seem there and in good shape. back blade is ok, not great. Anyone have an idea about size and type of box scraper? Oil to use, when to change. I am new at this, so any information would be helpful. Jb50

WE've seen many come thru this but we've also seen the failure of the pump before the problem was noticed.

Thanks Art, I'll check it. BTW, called Kubota and they also said it could be the switch under the seat. It'll cut off the engine if it senses that the seat is unoccupied. I might have to bend the sensor so the accomodates a lighter weight man. So, I'll check both items.

Clint, the front pump will not affect your transmission. It sounds to me like you have something wrong with the charge circuit. There are many things here that can cause problems. The easiest to check is the filter relief valve. I assume you have already changed the filter. Also you should drain the oil and remove the sump screen to see if it is clean. There can be brake material or other debris clogging the screen. After you are sure the screen is clean and the filter is changed, remove the relief valve. It is located just above the transmission filter and it screws into the side of the case. you will need a 1 1/4" wrench or socket to remove. After the plug is removed, reach into the bore with a needle nose pliers to pull out the cartridge valve. The image in the link shows the valve. Items # 10 & 11 are contained inside of #12. They are held in place with the #15 roll pins. If either one of the pins are broken or if there is debris stuck in the slot in #12, this can cause the problems you are having. If all these things check out, then you probably have an internal problem such as a worn transmission pump, broken oil tube or a leak in the HI-LO clutch or PTO clutch. All of which requires splitting the tractor to get to it. Good luck!

don't know about the road grader, but I have a 8 yr old field and brush mower with finishing deck, I was hesitant cause I was skeptical about their claim of what it would do, I have used the fire out of it, and had basically no problems, but stuff caused by my hard use of machine, and I can still get parts from them...

currently thinking of one of their chippers for my 3 pt on my kubota, however it's h/p is rated a little lower than they recommend, but I got a feeling if I shelled out the bucks it would hold up just like the mower.

To the best of my knowledge it should be a piston pump which you should be able to see when you haev the hood panels off.

One of my friends from work found out this weekend how not to haul stuff. He was trying to haul a small payloader on a tandem trailer with his 1500 Silverado while having it strapped down with (2) 10,000 lb. straps.

He had several misconceptions. He thought the payloader only weighed about 12,000 lbs.

My thoughts are: I have yet to see a payloader that "light" yet. Never haul anything like that without connecting and using trailer brakes. Never use anything less than a 3/4 ton truck for stuff like that. Always use several big chains and load binders and a couple of straps for extra security if you are a rookie.

Ford says they can tow more than Chevy as was stated above because of a box frame. Ford also says you need two Chevies to tow 11,300 lb.

Anyhow they don't know for sure what went wrong first. They went up a very steep drive before getting on the highway. It(payloader) may have slipped back some shifting the load. They heard a hissing noise on the way up. Truck tires were spinning as they crested the steep drive.

At less than 30mph and driving about 1/8 mile on the highway, the trailer came around causing them to do a 360. The trailer flipped, ripped the bumper and hitch off, bent the truck frame, broke the pendle hitch and a trailer tire got flat somehow. A big tree stopped the truck from going down a shallow ravine. The payloader ended up down the (hill) ravine on its side about 15-20 yards down. No body got hurt and it only took two wreckers to pull it out.

My feeling is the truck manufacturer's are pushing too hard to outdue each other while using 1/2 ton trucks. People should be forced to have training before being allowed to pull heavy stuff down the road.

I don't know about the Woods loader, but Saturady, I found a unique, undocumented feature of the Kubota loader on my B7800. The loader has a quick release feature. To simplify removal, they include feet to stabilize the bucket when removed. These feet are held in place with a quick pull cotter pin.

If the pin comes out unexpectedly, the foot falls on the front tire. If not noticed very quickly, there is potential for the pad of the foot to puncture the tire.

This is not a hypothetical case, I just had to have one of my front tires patched and a tube added. The hole that results is too large to plug.

I believe the solution will be to replace the quick release pins with standard pins that require tools for removal, or circular marine cotter pins. In the mean time, I will be putting some nylon wire ties around the legs themselves, as a backup system. This may add a little time to the loader removal process, but not as much as having a tire repaired.

Ok ,i know its been a while. I was just liveing with the noise. This winter i decided to rebuild my fel actuators. Very easy by the way. This alone fixed the noise . I havent heard it since. Maybe one was bypassing .

Almost four years and 400 more hours later things are still working fine. I purchased my service manual and parts lists from the dealer. Frankly, I find the owners manual has more useful information for what I need to do.

Your local Cub Cadet dealer should be able to get you info. If he also sells Woods products they should have a cross over of part number. Cadet just buys them from Woods and marks it up about 30-50%.

I have the 417 loader on my 7275 and can check if I have a parts manual. I work real closely with my Cadet/CNH dealer and could get the info for you if it doesn't work easily on your end.

Sesails, as Hardwood points out time will take care of roots or many of them. There is room for variance here, I read you had dead trees and stumps removed. Does that mean most roots are gone at least those of size? Or must you remove them? If so I would consider a bull dozer with a root rake to remove the root trash.

You may find it beneficial to hire someone with a large tractor and heavy disk to first disk it cut roots your tractor and disk can not.

If the land is clear of large roots and stumps, you probably with patience (slow and over and over) can get it in good shape yourself. If you will slowly work the dirt with a disk or new ground cultivators (spring loaded shanks and small plows) a few inches at the time to loosen it and they will also do some leveling and then finish grade with either blade or field cultivator set up. Take your time, loosen the dirt with disk or such 2 to 4 inches and level and then do it over and over until you have what you want. You may be able to used something behind a disk or spring loaded cultivators to help level the just lossen dirt as you go. Many farmers do.

Been there done that, patience and time. If you have small stumps or large roots watch your tires, wood will damage your tractor very quickly. kt
