SG, I guess I don't get where you're going here.

Are you wanting log trucks to tarp their load? I've followed and met more log trucks than I care or could count and no damage whatsoever. Limbs would be a different story but not a problem here. Limbs are cut off. As far as Big business, it's the same here in SE OK.

Trailer lights on a log truck? You bet
Weight limit? You bet
Height limit? You bet
Length limit? You bet
Red light or a red flag on the longest log? You bet
CDL required? You bet
DOT inspections? You bet (They set in waiting)

Tarp to cover load? Ain't gonna happen.

That sounds like a HECK of a low price for that set-up. If it were me I would suspect there is something wrong with the unit?

Kenny I agree with the observation about the eras, etc. I've noticed that myself.

But, Kenny what's the connection of liking really old tractors and young women? Perhaps a "foot" in each era :)

EW, if a pilot operated check valve is still allowing motion, then one of two things is happening, and neither is good, or something a different valve will fix.

If a 'locked' cylinder moves, you have fluid moving PAST a seal, either in the cylinder itself, or in the check valve.

This is because shock loading is exceeding the pressure limits of seals in the cylinder or valve, or both.

Consider some form of mechanical locking pin, like a hitch pin, that will form a solid connection and just use the hydraulics to do the moving, not the securing.

I would think a stand - alone vehicle version might be the most cost effective solution, but you could easily set up your own - it just might be more expensive. The autodialer can be found here:

it requires 12-24VDC and has a simple contact input. Once the input is lost, it starts dialing. Hence any field sensors can be wired in series to this input (fairly simple).

Don't have any online pricing availabe, but I think it runs $500-600. Simple to set up, put the simm card in, and run a phone line from it to the autodialer and you have instant notification of an alarm.

I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives to the telular, but I haven't found one yet... (CellSocket went out of business).

The last test that I have Ken put's Shell Rotella 1 at 7.5 for a total base number and a 1 on sulfated ash. They also have Rimula which uses a 1.65 sulfated ash and 12 for a base number which still doesn't exceed the Detroit spec's 7SE270 it did well on the tests.

The tractor and MMM price seemds OK, however I would agree that the loader price seems a little high. I he may be charging a few too many dollars for the install. You could aske how much the loader is not installed. I installed an LA181 loader on my BX1500. I would do it all over again. Really gave me a chance to understand the hydraulics on the machine. I will netion that I did not know anything about hydraulics (other than what I had read about on the web) before I did this. I am also not a mechanic, so if I can do it, anyone can.

Mike, so you've joined the ranks of snow plowers! I just hung up my shovel so to speak and got out of it in SE Michigan and moved to warmer climes. It' 70 today and sunny.

Might I suggest that you mount the amber light as high up as possible---6'-8' above the tractor, even mounting it on some thickwall conduit or water pipe as the higher the better. Mounted low on a fender, a car could be right up on you before they notice. Last I checked a graden tractor makes for a odd-looking hood ornament :) Short of mounting the light higher, a child's bright orange bicycle flag--or two-- would be prudent too---a waving flag can draw as much or more attention than a light.

A reverse-mounted halogen driving light gets attention too as the inclination from other approaching drivers is that it's a car--which will command attention too if they have a hint of collision. This is handy when backing down driveways and getting attention.

On my plow truck formerly-known as "the plow truck", I have a roof-mounted lightbar, and on the rear of the cap/shell a traffic stick or sequential flashing bar to give notice as soon as possible when backing out of a blind intersection. Every split-second counts.

The only thing I thought of was Dennis was gonna put a date in instead of the tractors and I knew my renewal is sometime in Feb. How I made that leap is still beyond me.

Second, not to err, umm, 'rain' on your parade, but take it from experience, it's NOT the MNR you have to worry about. You put a tractor on the shoreline, and 6 people will be out there with cameras and telephones in hand. <br>

As to your stones, ones that size will weigh in the neighbourhood of 2,000 pounds. You will not lift those with anything close to the size of a BX, if you are really lucky, and a bit patient, you MIGHT be able to roll them on fairly flat land, or downhill, certainly not up hill. They may move a little, but when you stop pushing, they will come right back at you, with a VENGEANCE!!!<br>

Best way to deal with rocks on a shoreline is to set anchors in the ice with an auger and let them freeze in really good, then this time of year use a come-along to winch them out onto the ice, when spring comes they'll disappear for good. Just be sure to mark them well so nobody hits them with a sled.<br>

i have a 1974 ym 15002wd w/ parts cat.(in japanees) need to know a few things about this fine tractor. 1) what are the fluid capacities for this unit ? engine oil, transmission etc. seems the unit came with only caps and not dip sticks. 2) i have a unit with the dynamo (pre-unit to the alternator) and not sure about the workings of this unit . i have tried to check w/ volt meter at battery and it appears that it it is not charging. the question is how do i check this unit to ensure it has the correct output and to what and how is it connected.? voltage regulator/ current limmiter as shown in the parts cat. <br>

I have one it's a 4 cyl. 24 hp standered transmission. It has a FEL,6ft scraper blade, 4 ft BH, 12" PHD. I have had it for 6 years now. I have had to change the water pump and replace three original tires. She starts every time no mater how cold or how long she has been sitting. I have turf tires and it does fine with snow and mud. I used to have a belly mower, but I couldn't use the FEL so I sold it and bought a 71" Ferris zero turn to mow the grass. I guess you could say that I’m very happy with it. If I can be of any help just let me know.

On mid size JD CUTs the ballast tables in the manual for loader equipped machines all require loaded tires.

To add to Murf's explanation the other reason it's futile to try to put real-world compaction results to a formula is that there are some materials that don't compact like sand, pea gravel, river stone, and forms of crushed stone or concrete to name a few.

The other factors are moisture content, type of soil, clay or other solids content, and the list goes on.

As far as moisture goes I have had dry beach sand that I've tried to get dump trucks backed up over into a driveway. Got them stuck everytime until I sprayed it down with water and the trucks drove over it instantly, with no other compaction.

Back home in SE Michigan it's 22 above. Here in 'sippi on the coast it's 72 and sunny---in fact the air just shut off. Makes me glad I sold my snow plow last Fall.
