tetloader you make excellent points and I agree with the what if. I think you will be plenty safe and comfortable with the extra chains and binders. There is nothing wrong with that.

Kinda like wearing two condoms. You can never be too safe with some of the equipment out there.:-)

However when I buy a chain and binder that come with certifications to their safe working loads and I pay a preminum dollar for the chains and binders I expect them to to the job. Typicall I stop after 20-30 miles recheck then check at each regular stop.

The bottom line with this thread I think is: Is the source of info knowledgable about the topic. Just because they have a badge does not make them a reliable source of info.

Where I work we learn new stuff every day, we check it to verify it. The State DOT's and the Feds propose new standards every day it seems. Proposed and law are two different things.

My 2550 has 990 hours on it with ag tires and the BA 400 loader. My projects have simply outgrown it and I am afraid if I keep going I am going to break something. I use it a lot in the woods and have skidded logs over 30 inches in dia. with it around 10 feet long but that is about all she will do. I have a woodmizer and I need something bigger to stack logs and wood there too. I mow some and do a little of everything you do on a small farm. Moving round bales is another thing I can just do with the 2550 but not with all of my wheels on the ground all of the time.
The 3430 hstc has the R4 tires and the L723 Loader. Basic cab no radio but work lights front and rear. No rear wiper and the basic defroster setup. No Remotes but a set of pallet forks for on the loader and the 72 inch heavy duty bucket. Loader has quick detach for the bucket.

KT if it was just my land you would be correct. My oldest has 15 acres of all wood. I am surounded by state land and that is $15 per standard cord. If I get that and have the time. I also barter (not really. I buy the Logs incase the IRS reads this) ;-) logs with another neighbor.

Bought that old spreader (it came full of compost) at a auction for $35.00

The 2 local farmers where I hunt Coyotes and woodchucks have over 1500 acres. Of course the field stone they have is the other reason for dump.

I have a trout stream in my back yard and I'd like to install some gabion baskets along a couple bends. Just so happen to have some baskets at work that are bent and the state would not let them be used. I say waste not. My boss (one of the owners) will let me have them.

That also applies to "All Natural" and many other things in our lives. Such a shame, I remember a company stated that they had a shuttle shift, after a bit of talk they felt that to have a forward gear in line with a reverse gear would qualify as a shuttle!

The JD tech. I talked to mentioned the same you did ,to go over the udercarriage for loose wires. I'm going to do this as soon as I get a chance and hopefully I can find the problem , without having to bring it in .I'll let you know how I make out . Thanks again .

Brown what Murf is referring to with ATV tires is that typically they have a flatter-profiled tread (more surface area) and more gripping bars (surface area) that are sometimes offset or arranged in a pattern such that they offer superior gripping. And most have gripping bars on the sidewalls offering even more traction.

Here's a definition of traction I got off Google:
"The amount of forward thrust that a wheel can provide before it slips. It is the product of the weight bearing down on the wheel (generally 25 per cent of the vehicle weight on a level road) and the coefficient of friction, which depends on the nature of the tyre and the surface of the road. Traction helps determine the steepest road a vehicle can climb."

As far as my comment about driving on snow and traction on same here's the distintion: drivablity or the ability to make locomotion are not the same as traction. A lot depends on the type of snow, ambient temp, if it has a frozen crust, if it has melted and then frozen, or if it's just the light fluffy stuff, etc., etc.. On some types of snow you don't need a lot of "traction" if you can get on top of it, or power through it.

Getting into "traction", in cases where say, car tires are used they can provice superior traction to a big, burly 4wd truck style tire because of the car tire's ability to pick up and hold snow in between the voids in the tread. As the tire rotates, the snow in the tire tread actually sticks to the snow on the pavement, which is why some tires tires work great on ice and some don't--it's not always the rubber compound. And I didn't even touch on tire siping.

Traction can be a function of many things. Weight is one as mentioned above. Type of surface, its texture and composition are another. Type of tire is another big factor such as how many traction bars versus few, how big the bars are and the composition.

Here's another way of looking at it: If you were walking on ice you could walk on it with most any type of shoe. Your traction is very minimal (gravity is more likely the reason you're able to walk), or rather, adequate or sufficent for locomotion. Now, I have placed a heavy box on a table placed on the ice. I ask you pick it up and walk with it. Yeah, the box is a little heavy but you're still able to walk without slipping your feet. Gravity at work here. Put the box down and try to push it across the ice. This is where traction comes into play. You'll find that it's now your weight pushing horizontally against another weight and so your feet start to slip.

Don't worry so much about the spelling, lots of us have fingers that are faster than our eyes or brain. ;)

If you are getting a loud squeal at low speeds and only in cold weather, it's most likely not a bearing noise. It takes either tremdous load, or a VERY bad bearing to make it make a loud noise, especially the big bearings in the front axle.

Bear in mind also, just because the engine is up to running temperature, it doesn't mean the hyd. fluid isn't still very cold.

I'd be willing to bet the squeal you're hearing is the relief valve in the hyd. system, it's opening because the thickness of the fluid caused by the low temps is causing too much pressure.

You can buy a magnetic style heater at any good auto parts place, they come in a veriety of heat outputs, from about 75 watts up to about 300 watts. Get a 150 or 200 watt one and stick it one the bottom of the transmission case for a few hours and see if that doesn't cure the problem.

Thanks for the concern. I had a doctor visit scheduled for six weeks after I quit the stuff last winter. He disagreed that the Lipitor was causing my problems but I had done enough research to confirm it. I believe that no doctor is going to admit that something with such widespread use is bad, think of the law suits. But about one in ten is subject to some nasty side effects according to the manufacturer's own research! Too bad for you if you are in that minority.

My numbers are now where they should be simply by watching what I eat and supplementing with fish oil.

My former manager was crippled up so badly with the statin he switched to natural remedies (red rice yeast?) and now has excellent numbers.

Bottom line is that I learned not to rely on pills to fix everything. I did more damage to myself by not researching in advance and by not doing everything I could to bring my numbers down naturally. You know, that comfortable feeling you get when sitting with your doctor and his intern and they tell you that "you really need to take this pill, it is good for you".

So for Dennis and the others here that have lost weight and are trying to improve their health through diet, way to go! In my view, carbohydrate reduction and elimination of sugars is the key. Without exception, every time I have lost weight in the past and returned to a high-carb diet I pile the fat back on.

The YM195 specs should be the best specs. Most of the larger 2 cylinder models use the same specs. The YM135 & YM155 use different specs.

Are you still a yanmar parts dealer? I am looking for a detailed manual to service the 226D engine and body. I especially am looking for the seal in the front gear box right behind the front wheel. Secondly the front of my driveshaft where it joints the differential has a smaller leak. Is there a bearing and seal for this as well?? Thanks.

Just another small point as far as the three point hitches, Kubota has raised there hitch so it will accept the many of the cat 1 attachments so some money can be saved on the cat 0-1 that is nearly a must on most subcompacts. RR I'm sorry the Kubota dealer didn't work out for you.

Bill, don't stop to soon, allow the engine to build up a good cranking speed and hold it on for a bit, you will notice it start to pick up and that's when to let it have the compression back. You might have to do it a couple of times to work but if you get it up to high enough speed it should start.

Some parts are the same as the american counterparts as long as you find a dealer with the patience to help you. I know I've been caught up with them and sometimes we've had good luck and sometimes not.

Boy aren't the labor prices up there! But in the dealer's defense, the new cars are being sent out the door at cost most of the time. Some of the used stuff they can make a buck on if they don't wholesale them. They need to make a buck to stay in business and I want them there for when my truck is in need.
