I built a shop with steel roofing about 5 years ago. Currently the roof is open but the shop walls are solid with little air movement below the roof and with concrete floor. If there is any condensation in my shop it is very seldom and very little. Now, the sheds on the side with dirt floors and wide open, grab rain coat at times.

As to steel holding in high winds, old galv. roofing nailed on here has held up to many a hurricane over the years. If you have every thing underneath nailed properly it is seldom you see a loose sheet.

Ron, I think you are correct on what you have said about Ondura. My understanding it is a multi layered paper product. They did have vented and non vented product to seal the ends.

Thanks Murf---that's the bracing part. How about getting them in the hole quickly and aligned quickly too without constant repositioning? Keep in mind these are 8x8's or 10x10's up to 30 feet tall (the longest I've done so far are 22' 10x10's at about a 1000lb. or more each but 30's are coming soon). The choker chain tends to cause the pile to bias away from the chain as it finds its center. The only way I know to pick up the pile and get it to hang plumb is from the very top, but I can't reach more than 20' so it has to from the side. I'm thinking a gimbal arrangement. Any ideas?

Sort of neither, sort of both.

We have our own butchering setup including clean room amd walk-in freezers and coolers, complete with tracks & rollers in the ceiling for swinging carcasses. My uncle is a trained butcher and we do a lot of custom work, and sell our own animals directly to the end user.

It's about the only real way to make a buck at feedinf animals these days.

I bagged a nice young buck on Saturday morning and my uncle is dressing it out and wrapping it for me.

Real handy when you can shoot a deer and have it all cut and wrapped for the freezer before you even leave the property!! ;)

The price is right, he gets a quarter for his trouble. If you were closer I'd happily share, the last bit of what's left in the freezer now is starting to freezer burn, I don't use enough, and that's giving a bunch away already.

I'm on Wildblue satellite. It works great when the skies are clear, but bring on the rain and it fades in and out quite a bit (much more than sat TV). That's a problem here in the rainy NW. We really have no other options. There is no copper from the phone company here, everyone is on a shared microwave (so no DSL or ISDN). There's no line-of-site microwave from our property so that's out. Cell coverage doesn't work here either. There's a price to pay for living in the boonies but that's OK with us.

On the newer models for 06 they have a disconnect for the hydro that eliminates the problem by releasing the pressure against the hydro. It does work! I'd be adding it to all older models if this is a consistant problem.

The safest way to do it, is to make yourself up a logging arch.

Basically a two-wheeled jeep or dolly converter if you know what that is. Except in this case it is a very high upside-down U-shape. Mount the winch on top of the arch and pull the log like a trailer. That way you can pull it from the drawbar not the 3 pth.

This will dramatically lower the risk of a roll-over if the log is to heavy, or snags on something.

For over a year now Kubota has had a control to release the pressure from the hydro's as standard equipment. You might want to add this feature to yours.

The Subaru drives predominately from the fronts, they do differ from one to the other but my memory tells me from a sales pitch that they are 80% front and twenty percent rear. If the coupler was losing it's ability to function it very well could be slaming into it's work instead of nicely beginning to function. My thoughts for what they might be worth is to raise the front so they would be able to spin and see what the rear is doing might tell where the clunk is coming from. Is this a standard or auto transmission?

If I remember right they were not that heavy. I am sure it changed the center of gravity some but not so much that I ever noticed. I probably took it on a steeper hill side than most operators ever would. And yest EW I no you are not most operators.

I had no trouble moving logs around with my forks, It was the clean-up and piling slash to burn that was killing me. Now I can limb the tree and drive alongside it and gather the branches and take them to the slashpile from the tractor. Ron

I used 10d galvanised ring nails on my cedar deck,,,,,,,,,,,,,,no problems. Screws are prpbably better if you have the time and $$.
